Also,
is there anything I can do with that random other boulder that's near the entrance? You can roll it around and stuff, but there doesn't seem to be anything around there to do with it.

im about 7 hours in. i've never seen slowdown during battle. there has been a couple times where i saw the framerate drop for a few moments, it was usually right after i saved for some reason, but it has never bothered me.

I agree with you completely. I liked the characters, the pacing, the direction of the event scenes, but...
All of the game's big revelations, like the nature of their immortality and the true plan of the villain, make very little sense under close examination. And is if realizing the answers would be disappointing, the writers just had them slowly seep into the storyline, with no big big reveals, or clever twists. Around disc 3 the characters all start talking as if they had all the answers all along, without revealing them to players, and you can sort of figure them out, but you have to do optional quests to really get them spelled out. And as you pointed out, there is no actual explanation for their immortality, just a highly implausible explanation for why they don't age. (Why would their aging still be linked to the flow of time in a world they had left?) The whole "amnesia-through-trauma" thing doesn't make any sense either, especially since all the characters had survived many traumas previously, and that's such a ridiculous cartoon villain way of dealing with your foes anyway.
Still a great game, though.

Did you also move the statue in the room through the left-side door in the non-destroyed mansion? After doing that the treasure chest that was previously blocked in the destroyed mansion will be accessable.

25 hours in and i´m at the garden of the sorceress mansion.
Nice variety and mix of enemies and i just got some higher level spells that look gorgeous (all-ground etc.. ).
Regarding slowdowns ingame, i remember one in the famouos start battle that has some (but theres a huge number of enemies. after that there have been some other here and there but not worth commenting, they were short and not huge.
And for saves, i havent had problems neither with managing nor saving. Iits quite fast but i will say i´m playing offline as i played once online this week and noticed longer times so i thougth there may be some problems like i think it happened with oblivion.

Beginning of disc 3 and backtracking...
I went back to find some things I forgot and went back to the Numara Atoll too. I so got owned by that giant crab thing - went down with one of his attacks (All Aquaus or something like that). But then I tried it again using nearly all available buffs and just GC ups in the front row and after a 10 min battle I defeated it!

I noticed that... but since this game does so well to keep the difficulty exactly right, I decided not to level up. I like a challange!

I wanted to say that too. I've been playing 2+ hours today and I kept saying "what load times?". I was really expecting black loading screens for "15 seconds" but instead battle arenas are almost instantly loaded as soon as you trigger a random enemy; you do have to watch the guys' animations/battle stances for a few seconds before you can select anything though, but that's common for most turned based RPGs. As for slowdowns, there are some during cutscenes.

I think I encountered a "bug". I got into a small "corridor" area and a cat walked into me presumably wanting to head where I was standing. The cat just stopped there and I was stuck in the "corridor", had to reset and lost an hour of work. I don't think they added any breaks in the cat animations, and so it just stopped completely since I was in the way of its destination.

17 hours in, at the mountain village.
So far, it's easily the best game of this generation. I really don't understand why it's getting such middling reviews. It's not a relic by any means, I get the feeling that everything about the game is the way it is because it works, not because the developers couldn't think of any other way to do it. The turn-based battle system allows the player to carefully consider every action taken, and take full advantage of every party member's abilities. The lack of enemies running around on the field means that the beautiful, immersive environments can be appreciated without distraction. The 1000 Years of Dreams segments are not only great, but very fresh-feeling, with the method of presentation being different than any game I've ever played. I've heard that these types of sequences are more common in Japan-only "sound novel" games...but even given that, Mistwalker deserves kudos for integrating them into a game Western-friendly enough to actually be released outside of Japan. The level cap keeps the game well-paced and challenging, the skill system strikes a fine balance between characters' innate abilities and customization...it's just a finely crafted and near-flawless game all around.

I recently crossed RPG's off my list of games to play, strictly because there are so many god damn games out and want to play a lot of em. I made an exception with Eternal Sonata, mainly because I was craving something remotely close to a Tales game - I'm huge fan of the combat system. Not sure it was the best decision in my history of gaming decisions...but I finished it and moved on.
Then Lost Odyssey comes out, and of course I stumble into this thread after saying things like "I'll never play Lost Odyssey, I dont have the time" or "It looks good I guess, but I'ma pass."
The game sounded dope. Old school turn-based awesomeness, with a hint of Square Flair, really nice graphics, supposedly interesting short stories, and a soundtrack from one of the best out there. I browse through videos, screenshots, more impressions, and realize it might be time to get into another RPG. I was getting really tempted. Sort of like a return to heroin addiction.
I come home from work on Valentines Day, and what else do I see but a game sized gift wrapped up with my name on it. I knew what was in there. I was talking about the game enough for my wife to take notice. So I rip it open and blammo, Lost Odyssey. A 40 hour commitment stuffed in a green case, complete with shitty disc packaging. They make a god damn collectors edition of Prey, but nobody thought Lost Odyssey might benefit from a nice box that could hold all the discs comfortably?
So what does all this mean? I'm not really sure. The game has been great so far. I'm just at the 3 hour mark, and fought the first boss. Holy shit that was a tough fight. I actually thought there was no way to win the battle, since his first attack wiped out one of my guys at full health and almost killed the other two. He hits me again, and I'm expecting to watch a cutscene, but it's Game Over. It was pretty funny actually. Made me think I might need the hint book.

Eh im the same way. Most of my RPG saves are 70+hrs long because I tried to find everything, get my characters reasonably strong, etc. Definatly going to learn as many skills as I can, and really custom set the Immortals. It's alot less time consuming and user friendly than learning everything in Blue Dragon was.
The Story of Old Man Greo was great. That one probably has the best use of sound in any of the dream stories so far. I also like how Kaim really came out as the stronger character in that one rather than the other way around, like most of the other stories.
