are there pics yet of these new ipods?

Now are they being considered the 5G ipod? or just a video ipod?

Audio podcasts might actually be quite interesting.

LOL... i think you might mean "video podcasts" sounds like a great way for free porn to distribute.

ps. from the IRC

two ads, one U2, one Eminem (?)

Guy freaks out after Em one, says he can't describe, says it'll be online later.

Sounds like he's all done talking about the new iPod... no news on existing iPods or firmware update :( :( :( (yet)

iTunes 6: "iTunes has to adapt to new video iPod"

4 great new features:

Gifting - Give someone a song (song/album/playlist - just give it), recipient gets an e-mail to redeem it. I'm imagining this means just buy an album for someone and they can download it free of charge from iTMS. ... meh

Customer reviews: Yeah, blah

Just for you: Personalized recommendations from all the data they have on you, your buying, and your library

/me slaps self. Yeah, that's what I meant.

personalized music ala Tivo Suggestions

you can also finally mark that you own something already that's in the store.

also you can now buy videos for playback in itunes or ipod 5G

$1.99 buys you the video and song.

$1.99 also buys you one of six pixar shorts.

vids are all 320x240 and about the size of 6 songs.

BUT IS THE SCREEN BETTER THAN THE PSP'S?

Video iPod is the only thing that would make me replace Sony's ubermediahaxor device.

Dude, it supports H.264 at a better resolution that PSP does off a stick AND it has video out!!!

Not to mention iTunes makes it fucking easy.

So is video out confirmed? What are the limitations for video encoding and copying to and from the iPod? Can I rip DVDs I own, push them to H.264, and have iTunes handle the rest?

Thats not bad. Did they say what shorts they are?
I'm betting Pixar.

If you care about the screen that much, skip the iPod video and go straight to Creative's new Zen that has 640x480 screen. They are doing music videos too.

So can I use my bootleg DiVX video shit on it or not? >:(
as long as they are 320x240 and H.264 then yes.

yes, video out is confirmed. don't know about copying but you can do home movies so yes, as long as video is 320x240 and H.264 you can push it to the ipod.

The videos you download from the store have DRM, no burning allowed. No details yet on importing your own video (though my guess is that feature is going to be limited at first)

And holy shit, iTunes 5 lasted all of one fucking month.

this thread is doing better than most top apple sites :lol

No kiddin'. It's grand reloading my tabs and having to dig through, literally, 2 pages every 5 minutes across them, while I'm getting fed shoddy German translations.

Ives and co. must be shitting product designs left and right these days. Soon as flash capacity goes up and the Intel transition happens, we'll be using iWafers.

gimmick so far (although Itunes suggestions are good)

Why pay double for a song to get the video? do you get the song separately too? And what kind of market is there in pop videos? They should have just waited to get proper content. Hope they have video podcast support 'cause for me thats about the only thing worthwhile - well that plus Divx support.

New "Front Row" remote for the new iMac is apparently the titty monster. Can also control iSight with it. Sounds ingenious. Totally makes the iMac relevant again in the lineup. I NEED pictures.

And for now it looks like the iPods can ONLY playback H.264 (which is going to make encoding your own stuff a bitch)

Edit: He's playing a Miles Davis video off his iPod onto the TV. That answers that question.

Edit 2: Another IRC is saying that the connector is identical to the current iPod "photo" one.

Aw gay, I wanted something akin to that awesome mockup with the 16:9 screen. Oh well, I'm sure it'll come out eventually. (Goes back to copying Battlestar, Sigma Six, and Modern Marvels episodes to PSP for tomorrow's train ride)

H.264 is MPEG-4 AVC. As long as you use nerodigital or other AVC compliant encoders (like x264 and newer builds of xvid) it shouldn't be a problem.

This version has been reported to be a complete stop-gap before the "real iPod video" is released next Spring, pending publisher agreements. That's when you get 16:9 AND Apple New Sexy

And what if I want full frame? Will the iPod still play it? It'd come in handy for when I want to, say, show something on a TV, and certainly mitigate - somewhat compression artifacts.
