Video and image viewing were nice secondary features, but running scads of homebrew code... well, it'd be the Dreamcast again, and I'll very probably get a PSP soon and become a pimple on tie ratio figures. Not like there's going to be a price drop before there are new versions of the firmware in the store units or anything. I wouldn't plan on going whole hog with a huge card or anything on day one; there's plenty of mucking about I could do with a few dozen megabytes easy. That being the case and considering what's already included in the Value Pack, the only other thing I absolutely need is a way to transfer things to and from the memory stick. A generic USB cable will work in that regard, correct?

I agree. The PSP is going to get so much cool shit in the following months that it's not gonna be funny:

-Emus
-Ports of good old shit like Quake, Doom, etc (networking?)
-Text readers
-Music players
-Proper Xvid/DiVX movie players
-Wardriving tools/wap sniffers
-Telephony shit?
-Something that uses the USB port?

What's great is that it's not like the Xbox or PS2 where you need certain hardware (modchips) to make a game or emu -- everything you need is right there on the PSP...as long as you haven't upgraded.

It's gonna be better than the PocketPC/Palm scene because let's face it, 90% of PPC/Palm apps are crippleware and console people are all about the LOVE! (and are too stingy to pay for stuff).

Basically, this is a CHEAP portable platform that everyone can use without any mods. Once Wired News and the other mainstream media reports on this it's gonna blow the door even wider open.

If Sony decides to make a 1.52 upgrade required, I think they will be missing out on a lot of software sales because people won't want to upgrade.

Yeah, Sony need to be careful how they handle this. If its gets big (and is mostly homebrew), then people may not buy their software anymore. I have a great line up of launch software, and I'm set for the Summer. But if the Fall lineup needs upgrading to a firmware that stops me running full screen/res divx/emus, then I won't buy. And I won't buy another PSP just for the games.

So in order to load an emulator on the train on the way to work I have to carry a spare memory stick, and will need to switch memory sticks on demand, risking the very real possibility that the PSP will do its normal job of doubling as a rocket launcher, firing my 1GB memory stick at high velocity into first class?
