Weird as shit. I...I don't even know what to say about it. I mean, I knew something strange was afoot when they plastered new music credits over the normal music credits in the opening, but I really wasn't prepared at all for what I just watched. :lol

Well, it's not a drug episode, since Fuu didn't eat any of the mushrooms, and they were Matsutakes anyway, which is perfectly safe. The whole alien virus/meteor/zombie thing seems to be lifted straight out of Night of the Living Dead.
It's worth noting that if the series wasn't canceled in the first place, this episode SHOULD have aired smack in the middle of October. Which would have made a LOT more sense, thematically.
A few Champloo episodes seem to be sort of like spiritual successors to Bebop episodes. This one seems to be Champloo's version of Toys in the Attic (the bizarre and irrelevant horror story / sci-fi classic send-up).
That makes a lot of sense, Episode 22 just seemed REALLY out of place. And didn't Episode 21 have a "To Be Continued" at the end of it? I was expecting a third part to the story they started in Episode 20...but got this.

Anyway, as best as I can tellit's a send-up of Night of the Living Dead. Bebop had an episode that was a send-up of Alien, so I guess this was the Champloo equivalent. It's also a lot more confusing if you don't know anything about the Heike clan (which I didn't until after I looked it up after the episode). Long story short, they were a clan that competed with the Genji (Minamoto) clan and were apparently completely wiped out in the 1180s (which is why Jin was so skeptical of that main guy, because he knew he couldn't possibly be a descendant of the Heike line). I'm sure the episode makes a lot more sense with the main group's translation notes, and I'm sure it made a lot more sense to Japanese people who know about their own history.
It also would have originally aired in October if the series hadn't been canceled on the first run, which would have worked out a lot better for the atmosphere.

So far, I'm still on the fence. I love the animation in most episodes, and the fight scenes whenever they're there. I think the finale will have to make or break the series for me.
Oh, and J2, I didn't get that part. I mean, it was funny, but who was he, the pompous guy who had that beat box dude with him? Or was he one of the famous samurai that was made an homage in one of the eps? There's a note one who, but I still don't know. :/J2 Cool said:Mugen - "He went like, "Can't you see this seal case?". So I'm like, "I don't see it!" and just killed him.
Fuu - "...."[/spoiler]

Mugen will what? Turn SSJ? Run for president?
