Official Virtua Fighter 5 Thread

How is the English commentary?

As you may expect, a pain in the ass... but all things considered at least they made the effort to do English commentary without attempting to copy the insane Japanese commentary style, by comparison this is quite tame - more of a "golf" commentator than WWE! I think most of us will be leaving it switched off (easy options setting for whole game, though versus can be set independently of arcade).

I just got done playing Tekken 5:DR PSP wirelessly. Not fun at all. And dude was sitting right next to me! Went from butter to lagfest over and over.

is the commentary funny like Tazz + Michael Cole in Smackdown! Just Bring It?
or is just lost in translation funny where Japanese commentary sound tardy in English?

Hi Isamu, hopefully this answers your questions.

I believe the stick you're referring to is the Virtua Stick High Grade. To the best of my knowledge, the answer to your first question is "No, not right now, but probably yes later." It will plug into your computer without trouble, but you'll need some sort of driver to have your computer properly understand the input. I doubt Sega has any plans to realease this kind of software but I don't doubt that someone somewhere will make their own and let it loose on the Internet. It may be hard to find and there's an 80% chance your driver will be in Japanese, but it will likely be made.

While I believe USB to PS2 adapters exist, I can almost guarantee you that you will not find a way to have a PS2 use a PS3 controller, let alone a PS3 arcade stick. I figured I'd mention that, though they are often forgotten, the PS2 has USB slots anyway.

Greetings and hello deadfrog. deadfrog...words cannot describe how much I appreciate you taking the time to post a detailed reply to my questions. Thank you so much :)

Now....I would like to bring your attention to an app for Windows that is supposed to allow you to use the PS3 Sixaxis controller in Windows programs. The app is called the Sixaxis_PS3_Win32_Driver_For_PC. *HERE* is the link to the app. There is also a link to the thread where I discovered this program, *RIGHT HERE*

deadfrog and everyone else who is reading this thread...can you guys comment on your experience with this windows app and tell me whether or not you think it will recognize the Sega VSGH and allow me to use it, specifically in mame?

Please let us know, and thanks again :)

I don't know what that has to do with this thread, but the only usual lag you should get is the "LAG OF DEATH" which happens everytime someone is knocked out. It doesn't affect gameplay at all. Occasionally you'll get lag but it's like 5 seconds in two hours between my friends and myself.

I find the lack of pictures in this thread disturbing.

Elecom converters DO NOT work with VF5.

If you want to play VF5 with a stick, you either need the old Hori Fighting Stick with the analog button, or you must buy a Virtua Stick High Grade or Hori Real Arcade Pro 3.

VFDC is proud to present our own exclusive Virtua Fighter 5 contest courtesy of our friends at Sega of America!

We have 5 copies of Virtua Fighter 5 (US Version) to give away to Virtua Fighter fans! The rules are simple, we want you to SHOW US YOUR SCENE!

Here are some examples of what you can do:
- Take pictures of your local VF players.
- Show us where you guys hangout, where do you play VF.
- Show us pictures of your set up/TV/PS2/PS3/Sticks/etc.
- Give us background information/location/history of your VF scene.
- Tell us why you deserve to win VF5.
- What you have done in preparation for VF5.
- How you will help the scene grow when you get a copy of VF5.
- ANYTHING ELSE YOU CAN THINK OF!
- BE CREATIVE!!

Post all or any of the above in this thread, or link us to your videos/pictures/whatever.

You have from now until February 20th, 2007 to tell us as much as you can about your scene. We will pick five winners on the day of release (2/20/2007) based on who we feel will best benefit from receiving a free copy of Virtua Fighter 5, and we will ship the game out to your scene!

Anyone can enter this contest as long as you have an address that I can ship the game to. This includes US, Europe, Asia, Australia, South America, anywhere I can mail a package to. Remember that this contest is not judged simply on the number of people you have. Emphasis will be placed upon effort/quality/enthusiasm/content. Post whatever you have in your disposal, or make some new contents! You can edit your post to continually add new content until Feb. 20th, so don't stop updating. Try to label your posts so I know which scene you are representing or simply keep them together in one post. I will start listing the scenes that entered the contest in this post and link to the entry posts.

Don't waste any time and SHOW US YOUR SCENE!!!

Will I be able to use the VF stick with PS2 games on the PS3 also?

PS3 sticks are not guaranteed to work on PS2 games played on PS3. Consider it as a long term investment for PS3 fighting/shooting/arcade games.

You weren't playing it at 333mhz and/or from a memory stick, were you?

I have decided that I am going to resist purchasing this game. It looks great, but I am not really big on fighting games. However, I do want to get into the genre, but I want to do it right, arcade sticks and all. The only thing is that I can not swing it right now, so sadly I am putting it on the back burner.

Pretty sweet, even a 60 page manual.

Only annoying thing is the game defaults to 720p and you need to go to your PS3 options and deselect 720p and 1080i to get it to run in 1080p.

Also how do you unlock the extra two costumes for each character. Do I need to beat the game on hard or something?

Apparently the BradyGames guide was done by Dr.Deelite and Kamui over at SRK, and is supposedly really good. I can't check it out since I'm in Japan but for those who want a comprehensive guide that's not too intimidating you might want to check that out.

Extra Costumes can be earned in quest mode. iirc you have to earn enough orbs to fill up the plate.

Also, I've seen the Brady guide. It's very well done and if you are new to VF or coming from other 2D/3D games, it serves as a very good introduction to VF to get you up to speed.

I only got to play 2 matches at lunch but as I'm saying in my other thread, the load times suck on a 20gig. They're maybe 5 seconds, but that's longer than any 3d fighter on the PS2 and double the length of VF4/VF4:Evo loadtimes. Feels more like SNK PS2 game territory, which is something I can't stand.

The game installs almost completely to the hard drive (2.7gigs; forces installation when you first load the game. Takes about 10 mins to install before you can play), so the load times should be an issue with hard drive access speed and not disc read speed.

getting mine today - camera is ready...

but i have a futsal game from 9:30pm , so i have to pray i get out of work early enough to go buy the game and get home to try it

Hmm, is he using a 20gig or 60gig?

If you time the load time when he first picks Kage and the screen goes black at 3:11, the stage loads at ~3:20-3:21. That's the load time I was getting and even longer than I thought. That's TEN SECONDS before matches. Wow, that's seriously PS1 figher territory. Ugh, if he's using a 60gig HDD and this is just how it's like for everyone I'm buying the X360 version day 1 if they can cut the load times down to the reasonable. 10 seconds is bullshit. DoA4 is like <4 seconds IIRC. Tekken DR is <2 seconds.

You guys are definitely playing on some inferior version of the PS3 then. The load times on a 60 gig PS3 is just like the arcade, 4-5 seconds or so.

They did a great job with Sonic, so I'd suggest you pre-order your 360 copy TODAY!

Well I just bought a new 8mb cache HDD, so I'll hook it in tomorrow and hopefully get loadtimes like you do.

So with your PS3 you don't get long loadtimes like those youtube videos?

PS3 version.

:03-:13 = 10 seconds :(

To be fair, once I invite my buddy over and we play 2p. We'll just play the same two characters on the same stage for hours straight, so as long as there's no loading (there shouldn't be) when hitting "rematch", it won't be an issue for vs.

This is just going to make 1p a little less awesome than it should be :\

not to start shit, but it's startling how tactical vf feels after getting used to tekken. my akira's fifth dan now, at 50 and 3 or so. joystick inputs seem to be easier now -- i'm just about 100% with my dlcs and spods, and that's never been the case with previous vf games. i'm using the basic hori stick, so this isn't SANWA MAGIC. but akira's d, b, f+p is now really hard to do for some reason -- maybe it's just me. it's kind of bugging me that the shoulder ram is a stagger instead of a float now...dlc isn't guaranteed afterwards.

i wish item collection worked more like tekken, though. i'd forgotten how slow it was.

quick question: when you see "during offensive move" in the dojo -- what is an "offensive move?" :lol

Those load times weren't bad at all really.

Oh, and considering a good portion of the game is cached I don't think you gonna get much faster times off disc. Guess we'll see in about 6 months

Another EDIT: There's a definate difference in that last vids load times from Gamespot, 60gb FTW?

Bebpo has a habit of overreacting to load times, so I'm taking that with a grain of salt. No offense.

If you do rematch, there is 0 load time.

There is a bit of loading when the game first boots up from XMB, but not nearly as long as that guy's youtube video.

Before matches after you select your character, the load time should only be about 4-5 seconds max, which is actually identical if not faster compared to the arcade version.

Also, offensive move is tap up or down then hit P+K+G.

Yea, load times have been quick, especially if you do a rematch. Going back to the character select screen and such is basically the same as it has been in previous titles.

There are two versions of DLC... the hard version where Akira makes a sound, and the easy version with just P+K which does only half the damage. Go for the hard version :)

Yes, I'm a busy person. I don't have time to sit around and do nothing :P

Heck, I was underballing the load times. I said 4-5 seconds and those youtube videos are showing concrete evidence of 10 seconds (probably on 20gig machines).

yeah, i've been doing the full input, and nailing it almost every time. i don't know if it's easier now, or if it's my new stick, or what -- but i was never this consistent with it in vf3 or 4.

edit: apparently an offensive move is u/d+P+K+G, if i'm reading the manual right

Less than 3 seconds vs 10 seconds.

Yeah. That's the early beta version running off devkits. Wonder how the loadtimes expanded so much. The amount of data (2 characters + arena) is the same and running off the hard drive the final shouldn't be reading slower than the devkit...

Based on the import version running on a 60 gig ps3. The load times are exactly what it's like on test PS3's, which is around 4 seconds max before the match.

k.

Can't wait for new my hard drive :D

Will spend all tonight in training mode though so don't need to worry about loading anyhow :P

I know the PS3 is region free but is there any difference betweent the asian and Jp version of VF5?

If its all the same thing im gonna order it you people are cracking me over here

To my knowledge, it's just that there is Chinese text in the manual for the ASN version as well.
