Stealth troll, I think so...........(enough periods for you?)

I'm not a "stealth troll." What if the game had actually spiked sales of the PS3 in Japan and I was not aware of it? How would you reply to me then? "PS3 fanboy." Or maybe you would just jovially respond with the utmost happiness and elicit a poignant sense of agreement, knowing that we had similar console preferences?

If you are curious of my intentions; if you want to ascertain as to why I posed that question, I'll tell you. I wanted the PS3's already solid sales in Japan to increase immensely, just like how I would like the Wii's sales to remain great and the 360 to continue trudging along in the back. It seems these days that next gen consoles are under-performing in Japan, and I was wondering if the game maybe hadn't released in Japan yet.

I apologize for making an OT post. Please excuse me (I say this with sincerity). However, the manner in which you spoke to me pushed me over the edge, so I decided to respond accordingly.

Anyways, back on-topic, does Akira still have the "rising-knee" move from VF4 where one had to push the 'x' (I don't remember the correct button) button after 15 frames in conjunction with 'up' on the D-pad to pull off? That was an awesome move!

Not anymore :(

Works for Tekken 5 DR, but Sega seems to have purposely made it not work with VF5 :(

I wonder if the Chillstream PCB is easily hackable? That may be the only option left for people who have existing sticks and I wasted $40 bucks on two Elecoms :(

It's just that I am stuck with the RAP2 and I do not have the budget to buy a RAP3.

I had a guy come in this morning and he asked if we had this. I said we didn't, since the domestic comes out soon. Then he asked if we had the VF5 stick, and I told him that I'd read it had been recalled. He gets all bent and goes "no, it's not recalled, it's a 5JYP-035 [or some shit like that], and it's not actually recalled, it's just being fixed for newer releases." So I'm like, "I dunno, I just heard it was recalled", and he's like "yeah, it's not. I'm from the Virtua Fighter community, I would know." Then he left all pissed off.

So fess up, which one of you was it? Only a NEOGAFer could be that snotty! :p

But you were aware of the sales, at least that's what your OP implied. No one really mentioned any sale numbers in this thread, so what led you to conclude that there were no spike in sales? Perhaps it was another thread? You answered authoritatively that their was no sales spike, you didn't actually ask "How are sales doing?" You obviously had some prior knowledge in order to ascertain that there was no spike in sales.

Honestly man, you came into this thread with a loaded question, used bold for emphasis, went totally OT, and your post sounded like a rhetorical question. Did you expect most posters to welcome you with open arms?

IF I'm blowing your intentions out of proportion, I apologize. With the recent spade of thread derailments I was kind of pissed to be seeing this type of shit in the official discussion thread and I went off my rocker for a minute.

No, you're correct. And I apoligize. You make a valid argument about my going OT, but I'm not a "troll."

There were no other threads on the topic, I didn't want to make one (it would be unreasonable for such a simple question) and I couldn't find the media create thread. I decided it would be relevant to ask it here.

So, speaking to you in with an innocuous tone, may I ask where I may pose this question for other to answer? I would like to know why PS3 sales didn't increase as a result of VF5's release. Did it release in Japan today? Yesterday? I'm uninformed of the release of this title in Japan, but I do know that it's coming out in the US in the next week or so.

:)

EDIT: By the way, I'm sorry if I came accross to you guys as "annoying" or as a "troll." I didn't mean to have such a negative effect.

Oh. I didn't see that thread today. CVXfreak, or the cheesemister usually post the MC threads on Thursdays (I believe). I didn't know we had another MC thread...for 2/8.

Then why post them? Youtube is an absolute parasite when it comes to showing off masterpieces of this kind.

Even worse than watching a previously magnificent film on a PSP screen.

Just, what is the point?

Unless of course it shows off some player skills.

BTW, game brink used a few of your photos in their review of VF5.

i like how they put "Game brink.com" at the bottom, whilst (i assume) not noticing retroscart.com at the top - or maybe they did and they just want to help our site along? lol

Anyways, the game looks great, no doubt about it - but yes, it has to be stressed that from screen shots do add a layer of FSAA and ambient light etc can make things look better. All that said, i don't think these paint an unfavourablely biased picture of the game - the game IS very good looking.

I'm digging it a lot too - i suck at fighting games and i've been surprised as to how sucked in to Quest i've been - although i really want a big old map to explore rather than what we have - but, can't complain - great game.

do you have PS3 Karma?

No sadly...

Though I am thinking about selling my HD-DVD add-on and getting one in March.

$499 is alot of cash for me though... but I really want one. I hope Sony price drops soon!

*prays*

I'm happy to hear that. I don't put much weight in the look of fighting games, but I know the media as a whole do, so it would be shameful if this game was reviewed badly in parts because of that.

The biggest problem this game will face in the western media will be the lack of online play, that has been done to death. But, Sega has done some good by announcing a 360 port, the more people that play this game the better.

I'll have my copy hopefully in the next few weeks. Start off in Quest mode (Goh, Wolf, and El Blaze. 4 Lyfe) then end up in VS. for a few months when my friends finally find out I secured a copy. :lol

Wow, just did my first multiplayer session with humans and played from 5pm -> 3am straight! SO ADDICITNGLY DELICIOUS :)

I've totally fallen in love with using Eileen, she's AWESOME. So so awesome and perfect against my buddies' Lei Fei :D El Blaze is good too but he feels pretty limited compared to Eileen. Really love VF5 Shun as well, it's even EASIER than Evo to rack up drinks like a madman!

Definitely GoTY 2007 by far atm.

Looks like there's some more GAF love at SEGA. XD

I just played a character by the name of MajinJekku in Quest Mode and his personal comment went, "I love GAF =P":lol

Is that the one Kobun Heat "designed"?

Hold on, didn't Sega have a form on their website where you chose favorite character, your ring name, and then a quote, and they'd put it into VF5?

If so, Sho Nuff is lurking inside with the quote WHO'S THE MASTA?

And if not, then gamers lose!

LOL it was Oxford and it was only for six months of my life back in 2002. A dark time...

Oxford is practically Hull -for me at least.

And, indeed, well. And still packs a mean punch with Kagemaru. Tsuuuriya!

Mo Shmo. Tell him to throwdown for some real competition (once we're oganised, of course).

RBs?? Que?

Ranking Battles. We had quite few successful events at E-Zone last year. Something is in the works, I think.

I know they've had VF4FT for a while but I refuse to play it since a) it was relegated to a shitty cab and b) my copy of VF5 arrived ;-)

Come sober next time.

Btw, anyone have/can take any screens of me in VF5? If so, please post.

...

Oxford is practically Hull -for me at least.

reminded me of blackadder for some reason :

Edmund: And then the final, irrefutable proof. Remember, you mentioned
a clever boyfriend...

Mary: Yes.

Edmund: I then leapt on the opportunity to test you. I asked if he'd been
to one of the great universities: Oxford, Cambridge, or Hull...

Mary: Well?

Edmund: You failed to spot that only two of those are great universities.

Mary: You swine!

Melchett: That's right ........ Oxford's a complete dump!

I have had this game for a few days now. Now i am a Casual fighting fan. I dont count frames i dont have a stick. I enjoy DOA 4 and Tekken 5. I have a *slight* Bias towards the xbox360. These impressions are all IMO.

Graphics: I believe Animation is part of graphics. VF5 kills DOA4 and tekken in those aspects. Characters look way better than any fighting game before it. the stages look great but just arent as great as DOA4. They whup Tekken 5 tho. Overall VF5 just looks and moves better than any fighter i have played.

Gameplay: I use Jerky, Shun and Brad. After playing for hours each day it feels like i have only scratched the surface. I enjoy the fact that unlike tekken characters feel balanced and fights dont turn into memorization fests. I enjoy the lack of stiff looking juggles and combos. Everything just feels fluid. DOA4 I have always felt is more aof party fighter but if i have to comapare DOA has always been broken with his counters and moves that home in on you. Its no contest VF5 kills it. Quest mode is really ****ing addicting it is really gratifying to go up in ranking while facing different opponents. One Negative: why is it in all VF games they only let you fight dural once?

Music: I find it sorta blah but it really does not offend me.

Overall: VF5 is better than your moms.

Kyoto:
I put up the vids despite their poor quality to show it to friends who might be interested in the game. It definitely doesn't do the game justice because it's so damn beautiful!

Quest mode has been so much fun. I got up to 4 characters up to their 3rd and 4th dan(can't wait to play Shun). Milky's Pai took it easy on me in quest mode.

The game just looks and plays great!

compared to VF4 and esecially VF4Evo... VF5's music has returned to more arcade-y themes, closer to other VFs

VF4 and especially VF4Evo were the first VF games that I actually turned down the volume of my TV set. The Garage J-Rock in VF4evo really came off really awefull and un-pleasent when playing Quest for 3 hours straight.

VF5's music however, IMO returns to arcade themes and are more enjoyabel then VF4 and VF4Evo's garage J-Rock.

Yeah....it's still pretty bad :P Like Kabuki said, it's not offensive so much that you turn it off, but it's definitely not what I would call "good" music.

true, but at least the Asian stages have more of a Kung Fu vibe to them compared to Evo.

I don't know if you remembered Shun's cave stage them in evo, but man that was too weird and sounded nothing like a Kung Fu theme

Shun's VF5 raft theme sounds like something out of Kung Fu flick :) to me that is a bonus up.

VF2 still has the better OST of the series

Damn straight Akira's VF2 music is just totally crazy good....

Although I think Eileen's beginning track is awesome with the wood flutes kinda reminds me of a Naruto tune instead.

Augh I wish it would come out sooner. Between being able to play it when I was fortunate enough to locate an arcade machine and checking it out on a friend's Japanese PS3, I've never been able to fully get used to the game and get some quality time with it.

:(

The game seems to have really good eye tracking on the characters based on the screenshots. Why can't more sports titles implement this :(

Sounds good. Would I be doing a disservice to the game if I play the game without a stick? Does it feel alright on the SIXAXIS.

If anyone living in the Seattle area wants to do a weekly drinking/game night with VF5, let me know. I do miss my fighting game buddies back in the bay area.

I picked up the Hori Fighting Stick 3 for PS3 in preperation, but am disappointed i can't get it to work on PS2 BC fighters. :( I should be set for VF5 though.
