What did they change??? I didn't hear about this... hmm

I am loving El Blaze.

VF6.jpg

Heaven, I'm in Heaven

I want an El Blaze action figure

So this game is worth it then?

I've traditionally been a big Tekken guy, myself, but have recently pulled out the old VF4: Evo and it's been fun.

Granted, the gameplay is there. Does this game really look as amazing as the photos posted here? A few reviews have said the backgrounds are "flat."

Damn this game is HOT!

So just for the record, because I got in a big argument with a friend about this... there is NO WAY the Xbox 360 version would have online VS matches, is there? Like, 0% chance?

I picked up my copy today during lunch, and DAMN the game is awesome. But I can't play it very well with the Sixaxis and now I'm tempted to buy the damn Hori stick. Fu*k.

Pretty much, but maybe they'll add leaderboards, also I think they could also add that at a future date on the PS3 version via an update.

This game is amazingly gorgeous. Just awesome to watch. Trying out El Blaze, what a very cool character. I really, really want my arcade stick now. =(

This game is awesome. Eileen and El Blaze are sooo good. They are both really fun to use. The graphics are amazing. This game is easily one of the best looking next-gen games that I've played. Its definitely the best looking fighting game on the market by a landslide.

And every time El Blaze says hotdog it cracks me up...reminds me of that Mad TV sketch.

Judging by the end results Sega has been putting into their arcade to home ports and / or home development in general for the past 5 years, I would say that its pretty safe to say "NO WAY"

damn, not playing VF games in a while made me forget so much about the game, I remember Jackie being faster or something, I dont know. El Blaze is awsome tho, im gonna do quest mode with im first, Eileen I dont like that much.

This game is awesome. It plays awesome and it looks awesome. Dfeinitely one of the best looking games I've ever seen. Did anyone see the character(I think it was Brad) in the Quest mode that has, "I love GAF" in his quote? :lol

what... :lol

Made it to 8th kyu. Someone's PC was "I LOVE OKNONONOMNOMI" or something. I lol'd.
I really do take back my "well, this doesn't look as good as it could have" comments. Looks amazing in motion and in person.

Spotted a "Luke S." shun while playing this week too, see milky pai all the time how many special chars are there in the game?

ugh - im tempted to go buy the Hori stick tomorrow - only two things making me want to wait...

1.) I want a wireless arcade stick....

2.) Doesnt work with PS2 games....

I can deal with issue 1, but issue 2 is prolly gonna kill the deal for me by morning....I just have too many PS2/PSOne games in my stack that could really benefit from a digital stick....

Fighters and 2D shooters....

1.) 10' cord FTW

2.) ...I hear ya. I sucked it up and bought one, but I'm still in the market for a ps2/ps3 adapter as well, for my other sticks. Still, T5 & VF5 together pretty much make it a good buy.

Got it during the break, played it when I returned home from work...
Darn!!!!!!
Love it!!
Love the intro....visuals (720p!!)...sounds...menus...music...EVERYTHING!!

1.5 hours in:
-Brad @ 2nd Dan / 2 tournaments won 1st place (35 - 0)
-El Blaze @ 5th kyu (13 - 0)

Amazing game (and the loadings are still short..in my 20GB..so much for the long loadings.. :lol )

Man I was pretty nervous about picking it up but damn I just got done with a nice hour session and good god it is 100% awesome. So glad I got it.

16-0 in my quest mode, just won the beginner's tournament and a 4th kyu with Kage

This game is incredible. I LOVE the music, I can't believe nobody has mentioned it yet. It's such a huge improvement over VF4's. Damn the game looks gorgeous on my 42" HDTV. Back to playing, will post more impressions later. :D

One thing that really impressed me....

In pix and videos I thought the characters looked a bit plasticy.....

However on my TV in 720p they look like damn real life action figures in motion fighting.....

Im glad it exceeded my expectations there...

didnt end up playing it multi tonight - Played arcade solo by myself lots.

Not to go off topic, but am I the only one who noticed his fingers kind of look like penises?

Nice to see that I wasn't the only one wishing that his fingers were that..hehehe.....oh you meant, looked like penises??....... :(

I hope I'm not the only one, dissapointed bynot having an option to 'Remove', in the pants/trousers area in customization..at least for El Blaze. ...

Damn me and my poor reading skills. :lol

oh man, I almost forget to feed myslef supper because of this game, I've been playing non-stop before getting home from work

Love it, even though I have been playing Shun for 4 hours straight and should atleat play one of the "new" character hehe

So far it's everything I'd hoped it'd be. Went into quest mode and I know it's supposed to be hard to get items but after 20 or so fights I still only have 50g (and i need like 1000 to get anything!).

WHAT'S THE BEST WAY TO EARN MONIES?

This game is great, I messed around with El Blaze for a little bit, decided to try Brad and instantly fell in love with him. Can't wait to unlock some items and accessories to customize him

It wasn't Brad. It was an Aoi character that's like 4th dan.

I'll quote myself from 2 weeks ago.

Looks like there's some more GAF love at SEGA. XD

I just played a character by the name of MajinJekku in Quest Mode and his personal comment went, "I love GAF =P"

Anyone notice an overscan problem?

the "Press Start" and some of the bars on the sides of the screen are half cut off, and the game won't let me adjust the X/Y size or position.

What do I do?

First, this game looks amazing, I suck at it, (first time ever playing a VF game) and the animations are so smooth.

I also had an overscan problem, but I changed the PS3's display settings to 480 / 720 / 1080P. I unchecked 1080i and now I don't have any overscan problems.

Enter the tournaments. Usually 1st prize will net you 10,000g

The game is spectacular. I tried out El Blaze, nice move list but it will take a lot of practice to master him. I still play with my Lau, he is even more bad ass then ever :D .

In quest mode I have made it up to 4th kyu, about 15-0. Fights have been really easy, but I switched it to hard and it made it much more interesting. But i have to admit the quest mode is lacking. Where are the different missions you can do in each arcade, like don't use a throw move, or win 5 matches in a row, stuff like that. That was a huge part of the quest experience and its just gone.

Also I can't believe they took out the basic training that shows you the basics of the VF fighting system. That thing trained me back with VF4, without it I would be no where, how can they take it out. That also showed you advanced combos for each player, it was so good but now not so much.

But the gameplay is amazing and that is what matters.

Wow, lotta love for this game!

The building fever pitch drove me out to pick this up a half hour before BB closed last night - my first PS3 game! Can't wait to get some playtime in this evening.

Keep up with the impressions!

A friend of mine is saying that the Virtua Stick doesn't use Sanwa parts, but the Hori RAP3 one DOES. I don't know whether to keep my play-asia backorder now.

Not that I can find the RAP3 in stock either.

Although I can't try it on VF5 yet, I connected the HRAP3 to my PC. Plug and play, it came up as a 13 button (8 buttons + start/select + home/L3/R3) joystick right away. Tried it in MAME and SFA3 controlled perfectly (shut up, I own four copies of the game).

If you're gonna play many fighters and other arcade games on your PS3 and/or PC, it's excellent.

Appologies for the watermarks (and if any site wants the originals just PM us please). I have included pictures of the box, Hori Pro 3 (close up as well) and the box for it and stacks and stacks of ingame fight shots.

Few examples here (usual taken on Sony X 46" and these are at 720p)

Boy, things sure are different since Street Fighter 2 :lol

I am over my head here in trying to accomplish these moves. I think a part of it is the controller for some of the movements, but these combos that require hitting 7 or 8 buttons (or more) in perfect sequence is going to take a looong time to get good at. And forget about learning counters and using different fighting styles and the like.

I don't think I've ever seen such technical requirements and I guess it's been this way for years.

I'm not a fighting guy, but I've got to imagine that the "button masher" tag that people use for certain fighting games could never be applied to VF.

So, I have three basic questions:

1) Most accessible characters for noobs.
2) Most "fun" characters for noobs.
3) Is the fighting stick an absolute requirement to really get alot out of this game?

Oh, by the way, this game is friggen gorgeous.

.

1- Lau, Jacky, Pai, Sarah in that order
2- El Blaze, Eileen, Lei Fei
3- not really, if you played SF, VF, SC, or T at aracades you will favore arcade sticks more, but if learned to play SF2 on a SNES pad then the sixaxis won't bother you

one big thing I have noticed in VF5 are hit throws or any move that requires a hit to land for the following hit to be able to executed.. those are easier to perform now

LOL, they even gave Akira an easier commanding DLC (and there is the old command still there for a original massive damage )

on other fronts, Akira's old d+K+G, K, b, f+P has been simplified to d+K+G, K, f+P :D

I always liked Akira (despite his god forsaken 1 frame knee) and I really like him allot better now.

Allot of people say "don't play Akira! he is hard to use!", but personaly I find Akira way more intuitive to use then some other hard to use characters in the game. Akira isn't that daunting, it's just he doesn't have those PPP strings so you he feels more like a SPECIAL MOVES character and that I like

Errr...guys, what are the differences between the various Hori Arcade Sticks? One's bigger (the $90 one), but anything else? Which ones are good to get?

Was said a lot time ago that the VF stick does use Sanwa parts, in this very thread I think.

Regardless, we need a definitive answer on this, and stat.

Wow, I think I love this game. This is the first VF that I'm actually playing seriously. I've played before, but I've never owned one.

Quick question, where does Brad rank on the 'good for n00bs' scale. He's the character I've been playing with, and I seem to be doing alright in quest mode with him. But would it be better if I learned a different character first to get the VF basics down?
