VF5 only displays in 720p, so no.

Looks great in 1080i on my CRT, although I do think 720p looks a bit better.

Just do a manual video display setup in the PS3 XMB and check 1080i then uncheck 720p. At least this is how it works with HDMI. It's also nice if you turn on the smooth option in the game's video settings. Game looks amazing other than some of the flat 2d looking backdrops used in the distant backgrounds on a few stages.(GT4 PS2 Lollerskates)

Oh my dear god.

I just won 52 straight games, got FOUR gold items along the way, and only got 4000!!!! total from all of that.

Granted, I was starting a new character and I was playing lowbies (does this have anything to do with it), but seriously, it seems you only get 50 gold per match...

Lei Fei is so much more fun than Brad... but I'm so much better with Brad :/

I think the gold is dependent on who you fight. I was 2nd Dan and kept fighting Jileen (Eileen) over and over, she wouldn't leave me alone, and every time I won like 500 gold. I started with 1500 and after a few handful of matches I had 8500.

Yeah I think fighting people your level gets you more gold and ups the prize fight frequency.

It is funny that your so desperate for gold as I hate getting gold. I don't want any of the items in the shop so when I get gold instead of an orb I get annoyed. :lol

Hey guys, I uploaded some replays of me and my friends playing. Check them out if you like to see them.

Instructions
Make a folder in your media card called PS3, then inside that folder make one called SAVEDATA. Unzip the content of the rar file into the SAVEDATA folder. Then copy them onto your PS3 HDD.

These replays are for the US VERSION of the game. They will not work with Japan/Asian versions, sorry :( Once we figure out how to change the region of the save files, I'll convert them.

KTallguy (Vaness) vs Srider (Eileen)

Sin# (Jacky) vs KTallguy (Vanessa)

Sin# (Jacky) vs Srider (Eileen)

Sin# (Jacky) vs Srider (Eileen)

Edit: I changed the files so they are now zip files.

Game totally hates me. I just won about 15 straight vs. high Dans before letting myself lose. NO GOLD.

You're sure your total didn't go up? I could've sworn I got some gold like that one time but I never saw the bag of gold pop up.

**** this ****ing game. Another high rank loss WITH NO GOLD. And no, my total hasn't gone up. It has been at 7000 for over 2.5 hours now. ****.

Btw, Srider, you're an 8th Kyu Lau on my game :lol

So I was playing VF5 and I finally encounter my character AI... Assassin rank Lion named MarkManSDT... damn it didn't have a PR comment :/ !

I guess "SD IRON FIST" was too obvious? lol...

But shit, I almost got my ass handed to me, I had to turtle and giant swing that mother****er out of the ring.... lol. GG to myself...

that's how I play Wolf on Quet mode hahaha, when I get into trouble, I just say f*ck it and I will turtle next to the end of the ring and use the Giant Swing and throw them out.

If I got walls, then I will just try to use wall traps with the db+P+G then knee them , knee them and picked them up with a ground throw clothesline

Strider (VFDC.com) if you are in this thread a BIG thank you to you. Your videos in Gametrailer seriously updgraded me from a 3rd dan to a 7th dan, Sega should have those videos inside the dojo (I was stuck at 3rd dan for a very very long time and of course I'm a noob at fighting games).

Man now I am starting to see that this game is very tatical. But can someone sort of help me with my style of fighting? I am still using Akira's forward forward kick and running around and evading (cheapo)......I really love his close quarters combos but have no idea how to pull them off.

I finally got all this goodness set up over the week. HLS61 + PS3 + Hori Joystick = absolute pure gaming bliss. I could babble for half an hour about this game, but I'm sure it's all been said already. VF5 made the PS3 worth every penny.

Random Question: What is the "correct" way to quit from Quest mode? So far it seems like you're just presented with an infinite amount of challengers. The only way I could find to quit was from the pause menu. This seemed pretty cheap (since it could be used when you're losing), so I didn't know if there was a proper way of ending the gauntlet.

I've still never used anyone other than Wolf in a VF game and he's come through with flying colors in 5. I do think I'm going to give El Blaze a playthrough though.

Yup that's the proper way (quit from pause menu, dont forget to save!!), another way is when you have an opportunity to join a tournment (they will give a choice of whether to continue or carry on your wining streak).

Thanks for posting those videos Srider. I cant wait to see how extremly poor I use Eileen compared to you guys.:lol

FU@#$K KAGE

My brother is using that cheap bastard. My god he is hard for me to beat using Akira I got jab and rely on kicks like crazy to win. His little headbutt move he does when your on the ground just about makes me want to do my own headbutt on the asphalt parking garage 3 stories below my apartment.

you have not Met Lau? just use PPPK and mix highs and lows.

Loving this game. I dunno about you guys but i have no problems playing with the sixaxis. Granted there are some moves that are somewhat difficult to pull off(Goh's 3 hit with throw at the end. name escapes me.) But i would say i am doing pretty well on hard in quest(180w to like 28 losses)

If i have 1 gripe about quest mode its that you dont get enough money...i mean collecting a treasure chest and only getting like 1000 gold kinda blows...I think it should be based on rank

Kyu = 1000
Dans =1750-2000
Master 2200-3000

also you should have a higher occurance of item battles the higher in rank you get...

so i would like to think that fighjting masters would give you atleast a 30% of having an item battle per fight. In which gold would be 80-85% and a item would be the other 15-20%

Also i would suggest that if anybody hasnt really played as Goh...you should really give him a try..hes pretty damn awesome and can rack up alot of damage pretty quickly...His throws own. Plus he looks insane and has the attitude to go along with it...Then again i always liked these types of characters.

Goh from VF, Bryan Fury from Tekken, Ryuji Yamazaki from KOF, Urien from SF, Basara from SS, and Mukuro from LB..etc etc.

also my PSN ID is Cyclonus..feel free to add me.

This guy is the freakin best. At first he seemed slow and he didn't have any really easy combos to pull off. But after you use him for a while you can do some really strong kicks. Each kick has the potential to daze someone so they stumble back, throwing in other kick combos together does a huge amount of damage.

Especially the start of each round - do a quick < > P and you will drop them to the ground instantly. :lol

is it me, or is Jeffry even more violent and deadly in VF5?

i`m just walking all over Quest mode with Jeffry, if i had ever easy time breezing through Quest: it`s with Jeffry

walls are his friend

can someone explain to me or point in me in the right direction as to how the money system works. Because most of the time i get small amounts of money and rarley do i get larger amounts. does it depend on what level they are or what?

Its in earlier pages of the this very thread.
Get a long winning streak and then lose.
Win money in tournaments and win money in item matches.

i use Lion all the time, pretty much. I've not really tried using anyone else, on account that Lion is just really really quick, and i can do some weird ass moves that catch my roommates off guard.

Yeah its pretty gay. Basically you have to lose to get money. This is because in the arcade you get winning streaks but you only get paid when you are done.

And when are you done playing in an arcade? When you lose.

So they stupidly didn't change that for the PS3 version where you can just quit out of a match at anytime.

So yeah, get winning streaks then lose a match on purpose and collect. Or go to tournys as often as possible.

woo, i just beat down Kobun Heat ! 6th Dan i think, PR said something like, "its the fault of Chris K." ....

cant believe how much GAF is in this game, haha.

I just entered a battle with Kobun Heat, too. it didn't say what you said though, it said "Blame this on Chris K."

haha, 2nd reference..

Did anyone get the bradygames strategy guide of this yet? I had a pre-order on amazon.co.uk which was supposed to ship three weeks ago, but it hasn't shipped yet.

I'm sure this has been mentioned before... I scanned back a few pages and didn't see anything.

Anyhow- what is the deal with the overscan in this game? Someone in another thread said it's a bug that happens if you launch the game from the PS3 toolbar. I just tried loading the disc direct from startup and am still getting the top part of the screen (player join text, for instance) cut in half.

This is on a Vizio 37" LCD running in 720p.

Idunno but i get overscan no matter how i start the game, im on a 34in CRT.

Srider, thanks for posting those replays. Those matches were awesome, Srider vs Sin # where both of you came back from 2-0 to win those matches was awesome.

How the hell do you rank up in this game. Im a 3rd dan with only a little bit left till i rank up, so i decide to fight the 10th dans. I win 6 in a row against the 10th dans and finally lose to a 9th dan pai who i previously beat and I don't rank up at all and get no gold for losing either. That loss to Pai was my first recorded loss too.

Anyone lose their voice?

ALL of my characters have lost their vocals during combat. I have restarted, opened from XMB etc, but it won't come back. Weird. Should I delete my game data install and start again?

All other audio is fine.

That is weird. I think you are on the right track though, your game data probably got corrupted some how.

Has the issue been solved? Sounds like a very rare problem though.

No, I kept it like that to demo to a buddy, but I did get a weird semi-failure during install. I sorta figured the two might be related.

Ahh then your best bet as someone said earlier, just uninstall and reinstall the data but it's weird that the voice did work previously?

Yeah, worked perfectly for a few hours. then whatsherface, with the kitten moves, wasn't talking, and I thought she was a mute character and it looked weird. then everyone. Dead silent. Music and sfx are fine tho.

Ok, so I'm primarily playing with Chun Di and Lei-Fei (I like characters with position-based moves, apparently), and my roommate is playing as Wolf and Kage, and for the past two days he has been dismantling me. I can come back on him if I pull out Vanessa, but I really want to just master Lei Fei and hopefully Chun Di. Does anyone have any tips to help me break out of the suck-streak? (He's a big fan of doing down attacks with both characters, or any of Kage's "Tou!!!!" moves like the dash, aerial spin, and flying headbutt.)

you should never get hit by kage's aerial headbutt unless he gets a backturned d+K on you. If you guard that move then rape his back afterwards. That is the only attack i know of (minus maybe some wall combo)that guarantees that attack. Otherwise you're just being too slow getting up

Go read up at virtuafighter.com for character specific info. Any character can be good in the right hands.

i have found today that brad burns is an almost unfairly powerful character. long arms, long legs, big combos that do a lot of damage :P

i agree, sucks for me cause my buddy uses Brad and Jacky as his main guys, and both are cheap imo ! ...except Jacky's throws...those are ass.
