AM2 could EASILY make a downloadable update for VF5 on the PSN to get it to Ver C. Come on AM2, I bought a couple of VSHGs from Japan, the PS3 and paid $60 for this game.

i really want to get a PS3 for this game but all this talk about upgrades etc makes me want to hold off. Sorry if this has been answered, but will you be able to DL upgrades to the game thru PSN???

Kodiak said:Just thought i would revive this thread see'ns how i just bought VF5 (only 40 bucks at Best Buy right now!) and am a total n00b at it. As far as fighting games go my experience is pretty much limited to Third Strike and Capcom vs SNK 2, so I've got my work cut out for me.
So I've been reading plenty of info over at virtuafighter.com and am gonna get the Virtua Stick as soon as I can afford it, but until then I was wondering where a good starting place is for a character in terms of ease of use and any other beginner tips you guys have to offer.
The only feature changes SEGA would discuss is a slight refinement to the Dojo mode. You can now choose to start with either an open or closed stance. Not revolutionary, we know, but perhaps just a small taste of the bigger changes to come.
Our time with VF5 was incredibly short. But from what we saw, it's prettier than the PlayStation 3 version. It's still unknown if VF5 will support online play (crossing fingers) or if the 360 version will sport any of the updates made to the arcade version. Fighting games on 360 are scarce, but gamers can rest assured there is one quality brawler coming to Xbox this year.

The graphics will surely be the most scrutinized aspect of the game, and they're looking surprisingly good for being in such an early state. We didn't totally geek out and bust out the magnifying glass and calipers to pour over the game's visuals, but we did do a bit of nitpicking. So far everything looks very, very close to the PlayStation 3 and, in a few spots, just as good. Aliasing even seemed to be a bit cleaner on the bitmap portions of the backgrounds, such as Jeffrey's island stage. The overall texture quality was good though some needed refining here and there. Color in the game stood out a bit; depending on the stage, the palette seemed to be a bit on the dark side and didn't pop quite as much as the PS3 game, but the game is still early and sure to be obsessed over by the dev team until it meets AM2's crazy standards.
Based on what we saw, Virtua Fighter 5 is shaping up to be a solid conversion of the arcade and PlayStation 3 games. The visuals could use some polishing, but already look very close to the PlayStation 3 game. We can't comment specifically on gameplay until we try the game out ourselves, but it seems to move as speedily as the PS3 and the fighters animate smoothly. We obviously have a raft of specific questions about the various enhancements the game is set to have, but since Sega wasn't talking specifics yet, we'll just have to hope AM2 is going to do more than port the PS3 game.

and they are bit different:
and IGN are acting like asses by bringing up online play when sega stated gazilion times already that they won't include it.
The rumor about better AI, was based on another rumor, that there is VF5 Ver C out or coming before X360 version. It isn't happening, both PS3 and X360 versions have the exact same AI based on VF5 version B.Lazy8s said:Xenon allowed for better AI than CELL in VF5 as predicted.
The extra AA performance of Xenos is turning out to be a useful design decision as it doesn't require too much effort for a developer to exploit and turn into a differentiator in multi-platform ports.

As for extra AA, did you read what GS said? "Aliasing even seemed to be a bit cleaner on the bitmap portions of the backgrounds, such as Jeffrey's island stage."
Seemed to be a bit cleaner.
I'll wait for 720p movies, or see it in motion (buddy plans to buy it for 360) before we can make comments. IGN made some pretty ridiculous reports many times over, same with GamePro.

Unless by smoother you actually mean the environments and fighters look more plasticy like action figures.

"Graphically, VF5 on 360 looks just as awesome as the PS3 version, with subtle enhancements, like improved anti-aliasing which is especially noticeable in the background details. Other improvements, albeit improvements that are less visible to the naked eye, are things like improved A.I. of the CPU opponents in the Quest mode. If you thought the competition was a pushover in the PS3 version, then the 360 roster should offer a stiffer challenge. The functionality of the Dojo mode has been enhanced as well, with added stances implemented so that players can practice throws and throw evasion more easily than they could in the PS3 version."
honestly, if they aren't adding online than there's really not gonna be much of a difference. it's the same VF5 you either love or hate.
I <3 it
Orlics said:Mielke knows his VF, so I trust in his opinion. I probably won't pick up the 360 version since I have the PS3 one already though. Maybe if I sell the PS3 one first... those achievements are sure to be enticing.
I never pay any attention to what IGN or Lamepro has to say, but if Meilke says that the 360 is the superior version, then it's money in the bank. I'll be picking it up this fall.dralla said:From Meilke's preview

Mielke is a huge VF fan so I'm gonna trust him on this... looks like gamespot was slightly off, who did the preview? Gerstmann?dralla said:From Meilke's preview

Reno said:haunts: Goh vs. Blaze is a match-up that I'm not familiar with even though I play Goh. I haven't had too many opportunities to explore that match-up to be honest with you. I've played a lot of Blazes with my Wolf and Lion, and some things that I've learned are...
1. Don't let him go into Rocket Discharge :lol
2. If he goes into that jumping flip move (where he can either kick you or fake it), just stand there and block. If you don't get hit by the kick then backdash and counterattack
3. Don't low punch too often cuz he'll do his jumping overhead smash to counter you.
4. Learn to escape throws forwards and back. Those are his most damaging throws so if he's smart he'll go for those more often.
5. ... don't let him go into Rocket Discharge
6. His overhead smash is throw counterable IIRC, so if you block it, throw him with Goh's strongest throw (270)
With Goh you'll want to make use of his f+P, P a lot as well as d/f+P because they're good mids, and they'll stuff Blaze's jumping overhead smash. Use Goh's sabakis a lot, especially P+K and d/f+P+K, and for the love of god kill him with throws. If your friend is good with fuzzy guarding then it might be more difficult to throw him, but given the level of most US VF players I don't think that'll be a problem.
He's one of the few reviewers out there that is a fan of the series, so his opinion does count, whether he is any good at the game (like the crazy button mashing that was going on at the end of one of the 1up shows) or not doesnt really matter.Reno said:Um, no he doesn't.He definitely doesn't know his VF, sorry.

Yes I know that too...but he is fan enough to understand the VISUALL differences between the PS3 and 360 versions...maybe you misinterpreted what we were talking about. But he doesn't know the game, I think it's pretty obvious from the way he talks about the game.
