The dogs, the slapstick and the bird, all classic kids movie (Pixar, even) fare.ninj4junpei said:I would disagree and say that the dogs were certainly aimed at kids. Though, overall the film definitely wasn't for kids.
Hopefully Disney finds a way to fight that. I doubt Up will lose all its theaters.
Eh. I wouldn't say Star Trek sucked balls, but it was definitely decent. I think it has a fair chance of being looked upon more negatively in the future, though.Dan said:Up was awesome, The Hangover was okay, Terminator Salvation for all its problems still had some fun moments. Wolverine and Star Trek sucked balls.
A movie shouldn't be rated based on character development, that's what TV shows are for. A movie should just be about the story and characters.Dan said:In a few years everyone will stop being wowed by Star Trek finally having a budget and realize it had absolutely no character development, a dull story and lazy plot progression.
Die Squirrel Die said:Does anybody know how quick boxofficemojo are at updating their numbers? They have Star Trek's international at 118mill, which seems awfully low to me. I seem to remember someone posting a similar number in a thread a few weeks back. I'm just wondering if that's an outdated figure, maybe it doesn't take into account some international markets.
They've been reduced to consulting producers on Fringe, and I'd point out that the episodes they wrote sucked and it's gotten better as they've had less input.critch said:Jeez, between Star Trek, Transformers, and The Proposal all being giant, and the success of Fringe, Orci and Kurtzman are going to be able to write whatever the hell they want forever.

Kirk and Spock at odds with each other at the beginning then having respect for each other at the end of the movie is character development.Besides, Star Trek was supposed to be about seeing those characters develop into being the great bridge crew. Instead it was gifted to them in a whole host of contrived scenarios.
Dax01 said:There isn't anything wrong with character development in movies, but movies only last for so long.

Thankfully it opens on a Wednesday, otherwise I'd be worried about some of those Dark Knight numbers.HomerSimpson-Man said:I estimate Transformers 2 will make over a hundred bazillion bejesus dollars by weekends end.
StoOgE said:I actually agree that Star Trek was all over the place and a bit of a mess story wise.
It is an ok movie. It isn't great and won't be remembered as fondly in a few years as it is now.

The only good movie I have seen recently is Up.
Zeni said:Anyone know how Up is doing week-by-week, compared to Nemo and Incredibles?
They didn't write it, they produced it.SpeedingUptoStop said:They wrote The Proposal?:lol wat

Could dip a bit though from this weekend with Transformers, im unsure what was in the frame in 2003 with Nemo.

Matrix Reloaded and 28 Days Later also came out that summer.
Eh, I wouldn't be so sure. Sure, the action is better than any ST movie to date... but the antagonist, the plot, the whole (and stupid) Spock/Uhura thing, might drag it down down the road.Blader5489 said:Only on GAF. :lol
gamergirly said:Damn Terminator is doing horrible. I had assumed that while there was some problems with the movies(script, characters, etc.) it had gotten to at least $200 million
You're forgetting the best movie of that summer, 2 Fast 2 Furious.omg rite said:Wow, anyone who says this summer sucks, just show them that year. Pretty much just Pirates and Bad Boys 2.
BorkBork said:Terminator 3 only topped out at 150 mil. The franchise just doesn't have the drawing power.
BenjaminBirdie said:Yeah, that's a pretty ludicrous assumption that somehow at the end of next week theaters showing UP in 3D won't have a spot open up for 2D showings.
Memles said:It's not to say that Up will lose 1600 theatres total on that weekend - you're right that 2D showings will open up in most instances, probably only dropping 500 or so. But the issue is that those 3D theatres, despite being about 40% of the theatres, are pulling in roughly 60% of the gross. That means that its drawing power will be diminished not just by the net loss in theatres, but by the potential amount to be found therein.
The film won't drop by 50%, but the days of 30% drops will be over once Ice Age comes on the scene. Should hold fine for Transformers this weekend, probably down 35% or so.
Sharp said:Apparently actuals are in, and Up dropped only 23.7% and Star Trek actually increased, which is pretty insane.
BOM forums have numbers.AlternativeUlster said:Where did you get the actuallys from? BOM doesn't have anything yet.
