And offline multiplayer!

But, seriously, who didn't see from the videos alone that this game would get very old very fast?

Still getting it though. I'm fine with a night or two of fun for 800 points.

One more, aku! ONE MORE! I wanna see!

And it doesn't look that fun.

Also, look at the main menu. Downloadable content. Meh

Of course it does. It's an EA game. Rip all the content out of the finished game, then sell it back to the customer at $5 a chunk.

Boom Boom Rocket...

More like Boom Boom BOHICA.

So is FirstInHell Quak3-ing in his boots right now? ...as the thread turns. If he does get a ban, please make it for 5 days so we can see Nostradmus' prediction for next week's game.

I suppose my sources were off by a week. No worries.

How many songs do expect for $10? This isn't a 90 dollar Guitar Hero game.
more than 10... it's a super simple music game and additional songs are not hard at all. the game should cost $2. bigger and better games are given away for free all the time on PC.

$90 guitar hero comes with a big guitar controller you dolt.

I will be thrilled if the song packs for Guitar Hero 2 are this competitively priced.

this is not the pc though...

i've had plenty of fun with just 10 songs over the past few weeks. endurance mode is where it's at.

you folks also act like there isn't a trial mode to actually, you know, try the game out. you dolts!

Coming with the Guitar Controller is an excuse? I cannot play the game without the controller and thus it's part and parcel with the actual game price. $10 for 10 songs is quite reasonable and as mentioned above I wouldn't expect the extra songs for GH2 to be priced any cheaper then that.

Oh, trust me. I am. I've been playing rhythm games for 10 years now.. I don't feel like not being able to say "I've played every music game ever" just yet.

10 songs is still extremely weak any way you slice it. 15 was about the bar I had it pictured at, so it's not like I'm being unreasonable here. I just know that it is not hard to shove more songs into these types of games. Guitar Hero? Yes. Uhh, DDR clone with your fingers? No.

Though it's only 10 songs, I hear they speed up with each loop, so there should be a fair amount of replay value there. I think. I hope.

I was kinda-sorta looking forward to Boom Boom Rocket, but now arne and a few others have me all hyped up.

dfyb, do you even own an Xbox 360? What the heck are you doing in here, you nutty goon?

I really like this game too. Endurance mode gets totally crazy :)

$40 Guitar Hero for the PS2 comes with 47 songs (and requires the investment in a guitar somewhere along the line)... so the value isn't all that out of whack based simply on a per-song basis.

Doesn't mean it's a great value or that it's a great game or anything (and there are other factors that weigh in GH's favor), but whatever. I'm going to need to download it before I know what I think. But knowing that it's 10 songs for 800 points is not like an insta-turnoff for me.

after watching you play beatmania, if you don't have the highest score on the endurance leaderboards i can't imagine who else will.

that being said, i'm sure someone as into it as you might go through/tire of it quicker than most. but the core mechanic of the game, in my opinion, is that it's a simple yet addictive rhythm game. this isn't so much about the music itself rather than what you're doing. i think in other rhythm games the (licensed) tracks take center stage. but that's not either what you're talking about.

anyway, i'm doing EA's job for them here. :p

but for me, a rhythm game noob and someone who lacks said rhythm, i couldn't stop going back to this game again and again. i'll get my 800 points worth even after having played it pre-release.

I kind of figured this is what is holding things up, but what I really want to know is, why are they releasing it separately - why not wait until everywhere has the ratings sorted out? :P

In other news, Famitsu confirms Xevious and Quake III Team Arena for XBLA, apparently.

I'm not really all that restless, actually.

Of course not, you have the Strength of the Earth. But he's not talking about the Heart of Sega. Arne speaks of the motley, ragtag band of Internet denizens whose mood shifts like the wind. One day, humping his leg... the next, calling for his head. The mob is extremely passionate, always vocal, and quick to stir - ready to raise pitchforks and revolt at a moment's notice. The mood of the Collective is perpetually tense. We are but one missed Wednesday away from full-blown anarchy and martial law.

"VIVA LA GAF!!"

What a reply.:)
Sighs....

I miss GameFan.

I was playing this a fair bit last week and got totally addicted, seriously. The lack of songs don't hurt it at all IMO. Lots of replay value if it's your thing.

Worth trying out for free to all those on the fence I'd say...

Is there any news on when Settlers of Catan might be coming? I think it was supposed to be part of the "Next 10" when they were announced, and my friend is about to go postal because it hasn't come yet.

I was about to ask what difficulty that was on and oh hey, Medium. Is the hardest difficulty really insane? I'm mostly interested in this, I love a challenge.
I have a very bad rhythm so I can't play these game at their hardest difficulty, ever. So I can't say, sorry.

I watched some gameplay videos of it and the music seems very disappointing. They should've let you rip your own music into the game and make your own tracks and share them with friends. I read somewhere that they attempted something like that and it "didn't work" for whatever reason but the included classical-techno tracks aren't doing it for me.

It's up! What a treat! GO GO GO

I feel like the most excited one on the boards for this game :(
Naw, I am too. I love rhythm games and Blimblim's video sold me on this. In addition I guess I'm one of the few who'll probably like the soundtrack.

GRABBIN' NOW

I'm actually kinda mildly dissapointed now that I've had the quake 3 carrot dangled before me. Do you think they'll keep all the modes (CTF etc) or will it be a really stripped down 4 map-only DM game?

Uhhggg. I played it and cracked. I am seriously too weak to rhythm games. 10 songs still blows ass.

PS: Check the hard leader boards lollololololol

Wow. This game is about 800 times better than I thought it'd be. Glad I bothered to download the demo. Its like an upscrolling guitar hero with only slightly less awful music and elimination of the totally awful strumming mechanism and note sets and again, beyond awful music.

I'd take these 10 songs and later amounts of DLC over Guitar Heros Hangar 18, Carry on my Wayward son, Strutter, Message in a Bottle, and You really got me anyday.

Offline multiplayer sounds hot.

The interface and presentation is very slick. I'm also impressed by the accuracy of visualizer mode; it will be fun to leave on your TV at a party or something.

Based on my 45 minutes with it, I would say that this game is a perfect fit for the Live Arcade: simple, accessible, fun, good for up to an hour of time killing enjoyment, nice visuals for a downloadable game.

Mark my words, this will be the first and only time I'm on the top of any Live Arcade leaderboards for anything. I set some high scores (by virtue that the game has been out less than an hour) :D

I'm having fun with it, I'm doing ok on the leaderboards at medium.

Gotta wonder what kind of uberkind is going to get the 5 loops on hard difficulty for endurance mode though, I could barely make 4 laps on medium.

Wow! Boom Boom is a lot more fun than I thought it'd be and I thought it'd be a lot of fun - very stylish in its simplicity, has a real refined "less is more" vibe.

I LOVE the music. I like classical as well as "popular" music and teh techno ravez zomg, and the trance fusion with the classics here is slick as hell; Hall of the Mountain Dude is my favorite for the moment.

Integration with leaderboards, how you go straight to them after each run is clean and it's amazing how many 360 games bury the leaderboards under ten billion menus instead of presenting them as they should.

Overall I agree, this is the perfect kind of XBLA title. Not to bitch over the price, but for an 800pt title, ten songs is JUST A TAD stingy. Even an even dozen would have felt better. The DLC music had better be reasonably priced packages.

Oh well, I can already feel this game is gonna have a bit of Geometry Wars style epic score comp going on.
