"That's my people: intense nerds and people who get attached too easily and get hurt. People who think there's some kind of key in their hurt to who they are. Sad-sacks, true believers, dorky people, nerdy people."

hrm. i like that quote.

I love it, but I'm not ready to say it's their best yet. I guess it is the most consistent, though.

I put the album on but couldn't get past the terrible first song. Ugh. Still on the list to give a listen or two though.

Well it appears I caught them on a "hit" last night, because they nearly took the roof of the house. They brought it hard, rocking on songs you didn't think could rock live. They were blasted/stoned/coked-up on stuff, but it didn't affect their performance. Great great show and I look forward to a point in time where they can headline their own shows.

I bought the album when they played here recently (opening for Decemberists). They were pretty terrible live, but Black Sheep Boy is really good.

The Decemberists may be my favorite live act, ever.

They really are a lot of fun to see live, definitely some of the best live shows I've ever seen. Colin is really sharp onstage.

Yea, Okkervil River is dropping off the tour before the Decemberists make it here in late May. Saddens me. They're doing a leg on their own that will come within 3 hours, but it's a weeknight, so I doubt I can make the drive and get back for work in the morning. I'd really like the see Okkervil River live.

Is this album only sold online, or is there any chance of finding it at a brick-and-mortar store? I ran over to Tower Records on my lunch break, but they didn't have a copy.

It's apparently being sold at concerts and to fan club members right now. I have no idea when the actual release date is.

I didn't know you listened to this stuff, jinx.

I must have played Down The River Of Golden Dreams a good 200 times since I bought it. I really like their songwriting, and their lyrics are stunning at times.

I absolutely love this album. It could be my favorite release of the year so far. Seems like everything they have done to this point, as good as it's been, was just a warm-up. The lyrics cut deeper, the instrumentation is more varied and intricate, and the album as a whole is more cohesive than anything they've done in the past.

I really want to give their live show a second chance, after being bummed out by them opening for the Decemberists. They're opening for Earlimart in a month. Are those guys worth seeing?

Well I just listened to the whole thing a few times last night... really solid. I'm giving her a few more run throughs tonite.

I still hate the song 'Black Sheep Boy' though.

Mifune, Earlimart's all right. I saw them play a 25-minute set opening for Grandaddy, and that's about all I could take. Their albums aren't bad, though.
