OLED gaming tv recommendations

I only think that the s90D might be a bit lacking in brightness during day time maybe ? But when the room is in the dark it's spectacular. I landed on fine settings if some are interested

Been looking at the new 5K2K WOLED - LG UltraGear 45GX950A-B. Very tempted to pull the trigger since it's on sale for $400 less than usual and I can apply my company's WFH stipend to bring it just under a grand out of my pocket.

I've been waiting for a worthy monitor to pair with my 5090, and I find myself playing exclusively in 21:9 these days. A 4K ultrawide OLED with the PPI of 45" sounds like the perfect thing, but there are some tiny nits against it. Specifically that they're using DisplayPort 2.1a UHBR13.5, so I'll have to use DSC when gaming at the 5120x2160 @165Hz with 10-bit HDR.

What do y'all think? Still rocking the LG C9, and I think I'll miss 12-bit HDR.

I've heard the S95 was bad for gaming because it separates the i/o box from the TV into a separate unit, and it has issues with 120hz and freesync. Not sre if its the 95F though.
I mean if you have the $$$$, LG G5 is amazing and bright as hell.

Edit: Personally I am thinking of replacing my older 65" LCD with 77" or 83" S90D / C4. Just trying to figure out if instead it makes sense to wait till BF.

Costco has both 77" LG/Samsung at $2K including 5 year warranty which is not too shabby.

ah thats what it is, 144hz. I'm in the market for an S90D myself, price to perfromance ratio seems to peak there. Not sure if I can plunk down another grand for the 95

Careful, the 83' is not QD OLED

On the Samsung side? Its more a question if it's a big enough deal vs getting a bigger panel. A larger panel is always nice and I haven't minded LG's C series over the years which isn't QD-OLED.
Yes the S90D sorry. Sure size matters but all the rest of the S90D series (at least in the US) is QD OLED which is noticeably better (wider color volume and higher peak brightness)

S95F is much better especially if gaming during the day
Way brighter, higher refresh rate for gaming, a bit slimmer profile due to smarter rear design
And an anti reflective coating that is improved from last year s95d

At night it's very close tbh. Barely any difference. But s95f is a very nice tv. The brightness and superior day time quality was surprising.

It's what will likely make Me return the s90d and wait to invest in one of these. S90f is also better during the day than 90d so I will keep my eye out there

Night- no difference between 90d and f for me

All these tvs only 4 hdmi though. Wish would be more

Got my S90D yesterday. It has incredible picture quality. Only thing I don't like is the stand. That thing is straight up garbage cheap plastic. Inserting the legs was a pain and took some force to the point where it felt like I was going to break it. I'm not even using the middle piece, just the legs. My QN90C stand was/is pure metal and weighty and oozes of quality. Wish they would have included that type of stand. Can't believe they included that cheap stand for such a premium tv.

How are you guys with the LG G5 finding HDR to be?

I've been reading stuff about it and seems game mode is currently busted, full of issues like HDR banding and such. They fixed it in filmaker mode and game mode remains the same for now.

From what I've seen the top tier choices, OLED wise, are between Samsung S95F, LG G5 and perhaps Panasonic Z95B.

My FALD LED X90J decided to grant me with a couple of dead pixels midscreen. I'm slowly checking out tvs in order to get one eventually, when I see a nice promotion. I think I'll go for OLED this time around.

G5 is actually a worse TV than the G4/G3. And LG nerfed the brightness to shit with a firmware update. Rather get a G4 or Samsung(Tizen is absolutely cunt fuck shit crap though.) I'd say go for the Panasonic, from what I hear it's cuntingly good.

Yeah, even the C4 is currently better than C5. C5 is also busted HDR wise.

I own a LG C4 and people say is the best quality you can get, and i fully agree. Had it since it launched without any issue. One of the best buys ever for me

I'm very interested in this as I was planning on getting a 77" G5 at Black Friday
Considering a G4 instead.

Samsung S95F - No Dolby Vision so forget it.
Panasonic Z95B - Probably the best option by far but is in Europe, much more expensive and still with only 2 HDMI2.1 ports.

What the hell? What did LG do with the C5, nerf brightness or what? On an enthusiast forum I use where a lot of people/enthusiasts are(along with industry people knowing what's going on) there is a rumour that the G5 panels were actually not good quality panels because LG is cutting corners and they had to nerf them because they can't actually handle the brightness as advertised, and I am starting to think perhaps that might be the case with the C5 then as well.

Always buy Sony televisions.

Always had Sony TV's until now, but the truth is, for me, 2 out 3 Sony TVS gave me problems. Only the oldest one is still alive and kicking flawlessly.

My 55" 705B had it's IR sensor dying out, unabling me to the use the TV remote (have to either use the back panel controls or a mobile app), and my 65" X90J got a couple of dead pixels after 3,5 years of usage.

was looking at getting a new TV have an OLD C1 and wanted a fresh upgrade. However seeing the recent news that LG will be the first and only TV to support Geforce Now at 4K/120 I have decided to wait and see how it looks. Not going to get a Samsung and be locked out for 2 years.

Im adopting more and more cloud gaming as I get older and just want to play better than console like, and with their new HD storage options and install and play features I believe we will be able to install our own versions of games not opted in. IE GTA etc...

If so I might pull the trigger on the G5 55inch

65 inch Samsung S90c owner here! Absolutely superb QD-Oled Panel. The Quantum dots give you the brightness of a mini led and of course the panel is an oled and get the dark sexy blacks. Has built in Game mode and bar too. 4k 144hz 1400 nit beast!

Stay away from the non QD-oled panels. They are often times way too Dim.

Don't buy LG C models they have rubbish game mode , dim and desaturated colors
Get Samsung S90D and if you wait till black Friday you can get the S90f for the same price
Or if you can find the G4 get it

I'm actually considering S90D, S95D or S90F.

Image quality wise the difference between S90D and F is minimal, but the S95D comes with their unique connection box, which is really handy.

From what I've been reading all new models seem a bit wonky this year, except the Z95B from Panasonic, which is amazing out of the box.

S90F is a noticable upgrade over S90D it's actually on bar with S95D So I would say pick between S90F AND S95D

Can't go wrong with either. I have the s95d and I'm certainly not disappointed. That thing is BRIGHT and the matte coating is amazing.

A lot of people hate matte screens but now that I've tried it with the s95d, I'm never going back.
People hate matte screens for a very good reason: they ruin picture quality (rtings comparison photos are spot on). I had a matte screen in the past, and I was shocked at how much the picture quality decreased compared to my 17-year-old IPS panel with a glossy finish. My current 4K 240Hz QD-OLED monitor has a glossy finish, but the reflection intensity is reduced, so I get the best of both worlds. The reflections are sharp but very dim, so I don't notice them nearly as much as I did with my old glossy LCD, and the picture quality remains stunning.

I'll put my TV in a dark room, think I prefer something more glossy rather than matte tbh.

Always buy Sony televisions.
If you are lucky sure...

My Sony has problems on its board (hdmi ports no longer work), and now the brand no longer provides spares.
The technician i went to told me that LG or Samsung provide support way longer, unlike Sony. I never thought about it before, but now i have a very good tv only half usable (android store apps keep the tv alive for me)

Getting dead pixels on my current tv was a sign to get an extended warranty next time I get a new TV, specially being OLED.

Warranty ended in April, I get the dead pixels 3 months after.

Please elaborate.

no Freesync support, no 1440p support, highest input lag of any top brand (sometimes double that of LG or Samsung, depending on model).

if you bought a Switch 2 for example, and you wanna play Cyberpunk or Street Fighter 6 (both games force 120hz on your TV), or if down then line there's a game that has a, say, 1440p 40fps mode that needs 120hz output, on a Sony TV you will be forced to run the Switch 2 at 1080p 120hz, while having 10ms of display lag instead of 5ms of display lag while running at 1440p on LG or Samsung.

Yeah, as someone who always had Sony TVS I can say this is true. And don't forget that usually only 2 hdmi 2.1 ports are VRR enabled, and one of them is EARC.

Still, picture quality wise they are amazing TVs.

I was in the store the other day getting a new phone and I have to admit the Sony QD OLED's look incredible. A clear step up above everything else on display.

I'm gonna have to disagree. Granted I'm talking about TVs and not monitors but it certainly does not ruin image quality. People talk about inky blacks during daytime on glossy screens but they fail to mention you can see yourself and everything in the room in the fucking screen lol.

The One-Connect box from Samsung is a nightmare, the source of most peoples problems, and the source of constant image drop-outs due to it's limitations on bandwidth compared to the 90D models.

I'd still say go for a Panasonic or LG G4

Yeah, I've read on rtings and avforums that there are quite a few problems with the one connect box, sometimes completely bricking the TV.

Apparently there are two version of the box, and the one made in Mexico is the main source of the issues.

It's basically a lottery, you either get the good version or you're toasted.

What ?
I'm playing on LG 42C4, previously 55C2 and i have no color or brightness issues. It has some issues but nothing related to picture quality on my end.
No issue with game mode also, perfectly reactive, can also go up to 144hz.

Where does that assumption come from ?
