Jessica Drew?
Spider-Woman has actually been the alter ego of several characters in Marvel comics over the years including Gwen Stacy, Mary Jane Watson and Jessica Drew - who was the first in the late 1970s.

Most recently Gwen Stacey appeared as Spider-Woman in the award-winning animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, voiced by Hailee Steinfield.

This seems horrible to ask but...

Did she get the job because she showed promising work and vision? That would be awesome. Or because Hollywood has a quota for female directors to meet, and is shoving anyone recognizable to the front?

We saw the same with Elizabeth Banks, and it resulted in an enormous flop.

I hate that this world even makes me ask a question like that, but...

Her jaw is huge not sure why but it always bothered me. Flat. Fits perfectly with all the other 3d superhero female castings. Will most likely start in a ok movie though.

If a movie about a female character has to be directed by a woman, does that mean a movie about a male character has fo be directed by a man? Is anti-sexism bringing sexism back?

Nice, she's a decent director, Booksmart nailed the timing for a lot of jokes and had some nice looking parts (especially the house party scenes near the end with the heavy glows).

Why is the marketing term a "female" Marvel hero? Just surprise the fans and just say 'Marvel hero' and cause excitement that way.

I could not get into Booksmart. I tried but I couldn't do it. I don't know how her Marvel directorial debut will go. Hopefully it turns out better than Booksmart.

In today's world these are perfectly reasonable questions. I was actually thinking the same thing.

It’s going to be a woke, feminist movie, isn’t it? Sony and Marvel didn’t learn anything from Ghostbusters (2016), Terminator: Dark Fate, Birds of Prey, or Charlie’s Angels (2019), did they?

Or maybe I didn’t? I keep thinking studios are going to realize their mistake, but maybe I’m the one who’s being unrealistic?

What a mess :messenger_grinning_smiling: Why do they need all these? Did they run out of hero ideas? lol
...because it's fun? Alternate timelines/universes/worlds has always been a thing in media and Spider-Man is exactly the kind of superhero for that stuff as it can take many crazy and weird directions. Another interesting one recently was Superman Red Sun which shows how Superman would be if he landed in Russia instead.
