(CNN) -- New York and Moscow have been eliminated in the first two rounds of voting as members of the International Olympic Committee choose which city will host the 2012 Summer Games.

London, Madrid and Paris are the remaining candidates, with Paris and London widely considered the front runners.

The ceremony to announce the winning city is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. (7:30 a.m. ET).

is beloved, despite what anyone might say
I was hoping NY would get it, but then again, it would be a logistical nightmare - the traffic, the amount of security needed, etc.

Take that Chirac :lol

I really dont care about the olympics but beatin' the french is always worth the effort.

Sounds like the French bid was just "look at how great Paris is" While Londons was "Look at how shit London is, please help", so London was always gonna win.

I could be wrong, but I believe this is actually the first time the UK has been the first choice to host the Olympic games, making it doubly deserved.

LONDON. IN YOUR FACE CHIRAC! :lol

:lol Yep, should've never talked shit about British cuisine...that's what the motherfucker gets.

Then again, if I'm Chirac I'm celebrating...because there's no way for a host nation to avoid losing their shirt on a summer Olympics. Still, congrats to my old home town, for what it's worth.

To all the (most likely americans) people laughing at France's 'failure'...you do realize that the U.S. failed too right?

I think that recreation of the Battle Of Trafalgar was actually designed to send a subliminal message to the IOC.

Beating France is always such a good feeling :D

You do realize almost everyone in New York DIDN'T want the Olympics here anyway, right?

I think that after the motherfucking Izzy fiasco, even Americans wanted America to fail.

I blame all you politically correct cunts for that one.

Really happy about this, and not (just) because the French lost :p

London has some real problems, and I think the drive to improve infrastructure for the Olympics is a good chance to fix what's wrong, clean up the Tube, etc. Worst comes to worst, nothing gets fixed, and London has one shitty month in 2012.

(This of course is fine by me, seeing that I don't live in London anymore, don't plan to live in London by 2012, and am not paying any British taxes)

I wanted Paris to win the Games. They had this cool Paris 2012 campaign going all over the city with this heart logo. And - they were talking about having sprinting events right by the Eiffel Tower.

But - London won't be bad for the Games.....

I echo what Iapetus said. We've done the Olympics twice I think, but both times were called upon to bail out other countries for whatever reason. First time on merit.

I think it helped to have Seb Coe heading up the team.

Its almost worth winning just to stop the French being so high and mighty.

As for losing money, who cares if it gets the Government to spend on decent infrastructure for a change.

Now, to work out what my house is worth to rent out for two weeks to the rowers (Walking distance from the rowing lake, and I don't bloody want to be there when its chockablock)

The Olympics in NY would have been cool in that it would have given me another reason to take a vacation up there... but man traffic which is already bad would be at a virtual standstill... that would have been CRAZY.

I understand all the France sucks comments, but you guys are all fucking insane. Olympic games in Paris would have possibly been the most beautiful Olympics we would've ever seen. Not only was there unbelievable support for it, but looking past all the "lol Paris must go down the toilet" remarks, it's still Paris. It will always be prettier than you and your mother.

There is utter disbelief at the Hotel de Ville. Initially it was shock and after an intake of breath from thousands of people the crowd started booing. People are really not happy and are now leaving the square. There is bitter disappointment here.

haha!

2 things:

1) All the British flag-waving in here leads you to believe it's most likely Americans huzzahing the French failure? What?

2) No one in New York wanted the games. The fact that the city basically deep-sixed it's own Olympic bid by voting against building new stadiums (that would be used for Olympic stadiums) and requiring the NYOC to do an emergency change to their bid at the last second should demonstrate how the people felt about it.

I visited London and Paris a couple weeks ago for the first time. Even I could tell that London was going to win.
Paris just does not reflect the friendly, diverse, sporting spirit as well as London does.

This is good - London is already a beautiful city. But I'm sure the Olympics will act as a catalyst for it to really shine: air conditioned tube would be a nice start...
