i think the difference between luffy and blackbeard will be the kind of people that end up in their alliance. people in luffy's alliance will end up helping him overthrow the world government after luffy tells them the truth of the world. will blackbeards alliance do the same? or will they try and dominate the world by force? they probably won't even remain loyal if they ever manage to get rid of the marines and world government.

I think we're understanding some terms differently. To me, the One Piece is something to be found, but it doesn't make you the Pirate King, not in the true sense. Luffy says flat out that the Pirate King is the man with the most freedom on the ocean, and this makes me think that the Pirate King title will matter AFTER the WG is defeated, not before.

On Blackbeard, I think he is totally capable of finding and understanding the One Piece too. He just won't be able to fulfill whatever promise or will is required to liberate the world from the WG. After this chapter and the introduction of the poneglyph transcripts and remphasizing Robin's safety, I think it's highly likely that Blackbeard will also make it to Raftel and learn the truth as well through his classic cheating and trickery.

It's not so much who starts the war (both Luffy and Blackbeard will be able to) but who fulfills the promise of whatever it is the Rio Poneglyph will talk about in the purpose behind removing the WG in the first place (a peaceful world? Some kind of knowledge sharing?).

That is contradicted by the fact Roger was the Pirate King and the WG was still around. One Piece defines the Pirate King as it is the greatest treasure in the world. The ultimate prize, nothing else is equal in worth. That's why everyone not just Luffy is trying to obtain it.

The most seemingly obvious reason why it isn't Blackbeard is because he has not inherited Rogers will, which is an importan part of this series, and Oda has said One Piece is an actual thing and was always stated to be different from the Rio Poneglyph and the information regarding the lost century.

Hmm fair point on Roger being called the Pirate King as the WG was still around.
But the Pirate King isn't defined by who has the One Piece. Roger was a Pirate King before he even revealed that One Piece existed. My point still stands, the Pirate King is the one with the most freedom on the ocean and Roger just managed to live that way regardless of the WG being there or not.
Luffy will probably decide that the WG needs to go before his vision of Pirate King is to be fulfilled.

I'm not saying the One Piece isn't a physical thing and I also don't think it's the Rio Poneglyph. I'm saying that both Blackbeard and Luffy will be capable of finding the One Piece and that only Luffy will truly be able to use it to the extent that the WG fears. Blackbeard would use the One Piece for his own purposes and probably could defeat the WG but not change anything about how the world operates.

WANO Kingdom should be the perfect Arc for Zoro where he can finally unveil the power of his eye.

Apart from that one question:

Do you think the whole Roger Crew knows the true story of the void century, since they were on raftel -- or only the higher commanders (Roger, Rayleigh, Oden - maybe Shanks)

probably the latter, since buggy isn't consired a threat by the goverment

maybe roger only took the strongest people in his crew to raftel since he didn't know what was waiting for him. shanks wasn't going to stay beind and buggy probably didn't want to make the trip.

When they reach One Piece. I demand Oda draws Nami doing this.

Nah, One Piece will probably be something truly special. That or it will not be some physical treasure. Maybe some kind of enlightenment shtick.
oda expressly said it's not that

Also, Roger was a real pirate with real riches and since none of the guys on his crew we saw seems to be rich, his treasure it's still there somewhere.
knowing what objective Roger had when he decided to let the marines capture him, I wouldn't rule out that he left his treasure as bait for whatever is in raftel.. so the onepiece is both a treasure and something more

Didn't follow the entire discussion so I'm sorry if this has already been said before, but imo the manga already made it pretty clear how to become King of the Pirates. Roger was called 'King of the Pirates' because he was the first man in known history to reach the final island of the Grand Line. Luffy's line about being the man with the most freedom of the sea is his personal interpretation of what it means to be Pirate King, but the outside conditions seem to be pretty clear to me.

1. Be the first pirate (after Roger) to reach Raftel

2. Live to tell the tale.

Yeah gotta be Big Mom first, this is supposedly the year of Sanji would be odd to have him missing the entire time.

I'm kinda curious how Oda is going to do this if he goes Big Mom right into Kaido that seems like two gigantic arcs with no real downtime...although he did go Impel Down to the War of the Best so it's possible.

although it does seem like Kaido has control of Wano (similar scenario as the previous islands), I think it's likely not going to be straight forward where Strawhats beat them up one by one, they're emperors afterall

I think unless the supernovas really do take down Shanks, there's the possibility that the supernovas will take down either big mom or kaido, they're not going to be just farting around while Luffy beat up all 3 of them which would make him the Pirate King, there'll be a lot of sidetracking

I feel like Roger's treasure is probably long gone (much to Nami's eventual dismay) and the One Piece will be the key to the all blue.

Not going there again :p

Crew gets to Raftel.

Usopp: "What's that note on the ground?"

Luffy reads note.

"One Piece is in your heart ;)"
-Gol D. Roger

Crew stares blankly at the note while Franky cries, "Of course!".
one piece is a key that roger managed to put together. when luffy finds it it explodes into a bunch of tiny pieces and scatter all over the world. thus begins one piece again! we never do find out what the key was supposed to open as oda now being 102 passes away from old age.

Wait a whole crew? Does that mean luffy, sanji and zoro wont be the only ones fighting someone in this movie?

Also 20% of the worlds money..wtf?!

Lucky lucky fruit sounds like some op shit.

Don't know how well a gold gold fruit will work but its oda. Im liking the casino based fruits tho

well i figure a gold gold fruit would work similarly to the metal metal fruit that we have yet to see and will likely see in the future. maybe oda is going to give us a preview.

Get Inside Her!
Watchin the last anime ep got me thinkin... why didn't they just all go inside the factory? It was kairoseki, the strings were just pushing it. And it was enormous, they could probably fit the whole population of the country in there with room to spare.

The inside of the factory was burning.

Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.
Anyone hoping Funimation does a small theatrical release for Film Gold like they did for Resurrection F? With a dub following a few months later?

On the One Piece Podcast, the Funimation brand manager for One Piece said that they're actively trying to get a theatrical release for Gold.
Since Funimation opened their film department a few years ago and are giving limited releases to more nicher movies, it's definitely a high possibility.

That's hopeful.
I mean, if Psycho-Pass can get a limited theatrical run, One Piece should easily get one.

I would definitely try to see it if possible (depending on how easy it would be for me to get to a theater showing it at the time). Depending on the release, I might try to see it with my brother, who also is a One Piece fan
