I'm guessing it was Capon or Vito that shot Bobbins...hopefully Pudding though.

The way the text of the spoiler is written, I thought he walked into the bar the Vinsmokes were in and they shot him. It would have been great if the Vinsmokes were also planning a double cross

uh, so sanji can't leave because he wants to save the vinsmokes? What a dumb thing, they really have no reason to stay there..

Really don't like this plottwist. They have the poneglyph ffs.

Even if that reason is weak, the
People at the baratje are still potentially in trouble, and realistically the straw hats have no way to get there even if they wanted to go help them.

East Blue citizens said the same about Paradise.
"Horrible place that's nothing more than a pirate graveyard"
Normal people living in normal towns.

The legends are greatly exaggerated.

As you go further in, you find that the peace is enforced by very powerful people. Zou is peaceful but that's because even their civilians can fight against Yonkou subordinates at need. Dressrosa was ruled by a Shichibukai, Fishman Island and the Totland Islands are under Big Mom's protection. Places like Orange Town and Syrup Village back in the East Blue lived in genuine peace and freedom, and an incident like Arlong taking over Cocoyashi was apparently rare.

If freeing Zef and the Baratie from threat is part of the goal, then everything goes. Big mom can't have anything left to use against them so they would need to take everything to the ground. Odd that we are going to see a Yonko battle but with half the crew.

You know, if the source of information on Sanji's background came from the vinsmokes, fair enough.

But it's more likely it came from Big Mom. And...well, why stop there? Big Mom should reasonably have information on Nojiko, Mikino, Dadan, Zoro's instructor, Chopper's old lady instructor, and so on.

If Big Mom was smart, she'd have a dead man's switch sort of thing present where her assassin's would be instructed to carry out the kill unless they got word from her to not do so.

Why would she care about any of those people? The only reason she gives a shit about sanji is the vinsmokes tech. Assassinating those nobodies even after her wedding is ruined and SH inevitably escape would also be fairly pointless. Most likely outcome is using that as a blackmail to force a direct confrontation since it's killing the SH themselves she'd be interested in. When your that big of cheese going about in that manner is awfully inefficient.

Pfft, efficient. If Big Mom was efficient, this entire plotline would never be happening and she'd already have the Germa tech in her hands, the strawhats would be dead, and her guards wouldn't be idiots.

Big Mom is a character of desire. She wants what she wants. Once the strawhats ruin her wedding, she'll probably just want to hurt them regardless of how little that tangibly gains her. Well, easy way to do it by killing off their family, especially this crew that she knows is extremely sentimental. And it's not like it'd take one of her commanders to dispatch frikken Makino. She could probably freelance this work if she was feeling especially lazy.

Really, this should be her standard operating procedure. Have leverage on anyone she interacts with. It's less about efficiency and more about leaving herself a window to hurting anyone she wants to hurt.

She wouldn't have any real reason to look up information on them. Leverage on Sanji was needed because he was important to her plans. The rest of the Straw Hats could just be dealt with normally since she they were nothing but a nuisance.

Yeah but your talking about is entirely out of character of her. Those character traits are why this arc is even happening. While she has sudden burst's of anger Oda does spend copious amount of time showing her scheme to get what she wants. That's why the entire Pudding plot even exists. She doesn't randomly murder people that cross her. All the Supernova's were escorted out of the territory and the SH are still alive and left so till after the wedding essentially just clean up loose ends. Enemies are welcome. When she's aware of the power difference she goes for the path of least resistance with no one dying.

If there's one consistent thing about her character it's that she treats her enemies far better than she does her allies and largely goes out of her way not to kill them. Why is why randomly killing or treating SH close relatives isn't something she'd bother doing with each individual SH. She'd just kill them and be done with it.

I disagree. If there is one consistent thing about her character, it's control of others. The reason she treats her enemies better than she does her allies is because she likes to defeat them by making them her own. She definitely doens't go for the path of least resistance. The path of least resistance when talking to a captured Luffy would be to order his throat cut. But instead she just sets him aside for later. The path of least resistance is killing the Germa in their sleep. But she wants to put them down on her terms.

As such, you'd think at this point seeking leverage would be a compulsive action she'd perform without needing to justify it with circumstance. It's not even that she would go out and murder everyone she met. Just that she could, should the need arise. As the saying goes, "Be polite, be professional, but have a plan to kill everybody you meet."

She wouldn't have any real reason to look up information on them. Leverage on Sanji was needed because he was important to her plans. The rest of the Straw Hats could just be dealt with normally since she they were nothing but a nuisance.

Still, you wouldn't be able to help but be impressed with her if Luffy tried to crash her party and, instead of overreacting, calmly slid a photo of Makino and her child over to him and invited him to have some cake. I genuinely wondered what he'd do, if she actually forced him into an impossible situation like that.

Good to see Luffy back in good shape, so very gald some knock some sense into Sanji ass.

Again I'm guessing Capone is working with Pudding, though it looks like the ones that shot Bobbins were Capone, Vito and Gotti.

Sad no chapter next week but hey what can you do, get some good sleep Oda!

Translation is bad in places though.

Looking forward to see One Piece Gold.

...Heart of Gold is so, so bad. Maybe the worst One Piece thing I have seen. Treatment of Nami and Robin is disgusting and the villain is crap. Is it coming free with Gold? Even then, I think that should lower the price on Gold, rather than raise it...It is a stain.

So Big Mom is going to get taken out this arc? lol

Curious to see what Capone had planned for the wedding, I guess he could be working with Caesar since Caesar has no other choice.

The only way Big Mom is going down this arc is if Bege pulls some Michael Corleone shit and assassinates all the Sweet Commanders with the help of another Yonko, and he faces down Big Mom with whatever help is available. Even then, eh...

One Piece 856:

So much for Bobbin The Fixer. Still, I wasn't expecting Sanji to want to save his entire family vs maybe just Reiju. With Chopper and the mirrors, once they reunite with Luffy and Sanji, they should easily be able to get to Sanji's family, but the obvious problem is Sanji's dad/brothers will likely not go along with any plan easily and/or will mess with Sanji somehow anyway. And then there's who ever shot Bobbin (I'm guessing Capone) coming into play in all of this. Good to see Jinbei ending the Pekoms speculation as well.

Also, was it always stated that Zeff was being held hostage? I thought Big Mom just knew Zeff's location and was threatening to kill him, not that they had taken Zeff? Maybe I'm thinking of the term hostage wrong in this case and Sanji means the same thing I was thinking.

So if Capone shot Bobbins and Bobbins was going to try stop Sanji, what does that mean?
Of course we know that Capone is trying something, but why Sanji delivering the food is important?

Sanji wanting to save his worthless family is a bit silly, but it is so him after all. Luffy and Sanji's reunion was great.

I guess we're pretty close to finding out what Capone has been planning, and that will wind up being the big reveal for the final section of this arc. Potentially with Pudding involved, too.

It makes him his mom's kid, which is what she wanted.

We know it was no strawhat and we know it was no vinsmoke since they were drunk in the bar.

So only leaves room for capone's team (or pudding)

Its also his whole "style" like with pekoms. Pretty funny that one gun shot can take people out VS city levelling attacks and so on.

Sanji is just giving off stockholm syndrome vibes from the dialogue here. His father and brothers have been NOTHING but abusive, yet he still seeks some kind of validation from them.

That....kinda sucks actually. Probably the biggest point of sympathy he has for me, as those feelings may not be rational, but they are unfortunately real. But I'm still gonna be mad if the Germa's actually learn to value him or some shit by the end of all this.

Veeik is feeling sympathetic to Sanji. I think this was the sign of Qiyamah
(Think of the start of muslim end days for you plebs)

What if Capone and Pudding are working together to take out Big Mom and take over her territory.

While working together it seems Pudding has no interest for that. Maybe Capone sure, but not her.

So if Capone shot Bobbins and Bobbins was going to try stop Sanji, what does that mean?

Who knows since we really don't know his whole plan.

Who knows since we really don't know his whole plan.

Well I think Capone would rather have more people against Big mom than against him directly (Bobbin having done something to stop Sanji etc thus causing it all to get back on track for the most part).

Now he has a crew of wild cannons who want to crash the wedding as badly as he wants to derail it for whatever reason.

BatDan

Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.
Red Wedding? More like 90's Movie Wedding! Hijinks ensue!
Sanji's really back now. I imagine he's got a plan now that Luffy is willing to help. Sanji is quite the strategist when the situation calls for it.

It's likely Capone is doing the "kill them from the inside" tactic, and Chiffon is in on it.
Chiffon is probably taking revenge for Lola. Then again, we don't have all the details.
He probably shot Bobbin simply to take him out.

I would love for Sanji to appear at the wedding like everything is normal, but when Pudding shoots him the bullet bounces off and it's revealed to be Luffy disguised with Sanji's healing mask.

I don't know if that's how it works, but I think that would be a cool moment.

This chapter hit me with a Feels Truck. Or a Feels Punch from Luffy.
Sanji finally got his "I wanna live" moment, but I'm fine with it because this arc isn't going to be Enies Lobby 2.0.

The way Bobbin got taken out was mad dirty, but I know it's definitely Capone and his boys. Jinbe even implied that Pekoms was caught up in a hidden scheme.
And Pekoms is alive, too. His location? Unknown right now.

I thought Luffy's tooth would magically return after eating the food. Guess it's gone until the wedding ceremony or end of the arc.
