OS X Yosemite [OT]

Is it not possible to scroll through grouped tabs in the tab overview? For instance, would there be a way to see the top site of gilt.com (Flash Sales) without clicking it:

Can't tell if it's the fresh install or the OS itself, but things seem a lot snappier. I really like the new Safari, I think they plugged all the holes I found in it last time. DuckDuckGo search! Hell yes.

Has anyone doing work stuff with Yosemite? Surfing and listening to music is OK of course, but my 2011 iMac got pretty choppy with a lot of programs open (designing ebook)... Damn :(

I was installing a bunch of programs on Macports, installing apps from the App Store, adding music to iTunes, all while browsing the web, and my Mac handled the load far better than it used to. Early 2011 Macbook Pro.

Has anybody else had trouble with spotlight search in Safari and in general? Mine just doesn't seem to work. The only box I have ticked under spotlight settings is "spotlight suggestions" and it just says no results for whatever I search, even stuff like "California", for example. I realised there was an issue when I wasn't getting all of the wikipedia/itunes/etc suggestions that everybody has been going on about in any of my searches and so unchecked all of the other boxes to investigate.

Anybody know a fix?

Spotlight might be indexing still. Let it run over night and see if things aren't better. Also check the Activity Monitor to make sure things are behaving.

Has anyone complaining about the lack of/reducing of transparency tried to replicate the image that's constantly being referred to? Otherwise, it's a bit of a silly comparison.

If you go to the same folder and see this:

Then you'll note that it's the same. If you're not seeing that, then obviously something is up for you.

So I've managed to "fix" the issue. I did indeed replicate the above scenario by scrolling a folder with pics but wasn't getting any transparency effect. I then switched themes from light to dark (which looks fantastic with a nice dark wallpaper) and restarted the computer and lo and behold!

So not sure if it was just a temporary bug with the way my theme loaded, but the effect is working and I've switched between themes and it still remains there.

Worth a shot for anyone else not seeing the effect.

Continuity continues to work only one way for me, as it has since the betas.
Anything I'm doing on my Mac I can pick up on my iPhone instantly but I can't get anything going from phone > Mac at all no matter what I try or which app.
iCloud syncing of Safari bookmarks, Notes and Pages means I'm not really missing the feature too much but it would be nice if it worked correctly.

All of my Safari notifications have stopped too. When I force one to display it does correctly, so the functionality still works, but none of the 10+ sites I get notifications from have sent a single one in weeks.
Again this is something that started in the beta, pretty annoying...
I had this problem. Make sure both devices are charged and then try pinning your dock to the bottom or left and then try again. Changing how your dock is pinned "unstuck" it somehow.

There is definitely a bug with the transparency issue because I use a comic book reading application and whenever I switch view options the transparency switches off right before my eyes. Launch the application again and it returns.

OK, so All My Files view is scary. It found a bunch of umm adult-oriented pictures that apparently existed in iCloud Drive from an app that backed up there and did it unencrypted (PrivateCamera?). BUT I could only get to the PrivateCamera iCloud folder by opening it from the All My Files search results to delete everything. The folder was hidden by just going to the iCloud Drive view. Hmm.

Good thing I found it before friends or family would use my laptop ha.

I forgot my Apple ID and Apple's website can't find my account. I know I have one; the exact same thing happened three years ago when I bought Lion. I had to call Apple and they "fixed" the problem somehow. I can't call them now as I don't have a phone number. :/

Crazy to think my MBP 2011 is now starting to feel outdated.... :(

I think Yosemite is just poorly optimized. Mavericks had a focus on performance/optimization and it shows, Yosemite is all about the new UI and phone stuff; I think Apple will improve the performance in the next version/release.

I'm back in Mavericks now and everything feels great. I will wait for now

...hate me...
My MBP 2010 doesn't feel bad at all. But then again, 2010 was the last year before the switch to Intel graphics, suckers :p

Reasons I have to upgrade are not performance related... need that handoff, Airplay and better resolution.

Crossing my fingers for that 2015 new Macbook Air/Pro 12", hoping that is not half baked.

I wanted to hold out for the 12" but I got impatient and just got the Pro Retina 13" in August. Be sure to update us on it when the time comes.

Yosemite has got me thinking of possibly selling my 2011 early mac for $500 or whatever the market price is and getting a macbook air...

I wish Excel didn't run so poorly on OSX, or that Numbers was a viable substitute. I was hoping for Excel performance improvements on the new OS, but it's still crap.

Probably old news to most of you by now, but Yosemite has a nice feature in QuickTime that lets you record footage from any iOS device. I made a little test vid, and I must say that I am surprised how nice it looks, way better than recording an Airplay stream, that's for sure.

Yosemite is treating me well so far! Mountain Lion, Mavericks, and Yosemite have, in my opinion, been the best group of 3 releases for OS X yet. I would say Leopard, Snow Leopard and then... but that then is Lion, and it sucked so much.

There's a good argument for Tiger, Leopard, Snow Leopard there. But yeah, I do feel like the last three have been strong after the disappointing Lion.

I think the OS team has had an upswing recently, by doing stuff that's actually useful, like the Phone/SMS relay stuff.

In 2012, when they announced Apple maps, and was like "You can fly over cities!", that was a lowpoint. It had no practical advantages. It was style over substance.

Bug when you reduce transparency.

Drag…

What do you think was I doing?

As you can see, both are missing the drag & drop handle thingy. I can drag them, but when dropped they always go back to their default positions. Unlike the Calendar and Reminders widgets, which I can rearrange just fine.

This is true. It is way less practical than street view on Google maps, but since google chaned how street view is accessed I stopped using it as much ©.

Flyover is super cool though, and does actually have LITTLE practical use. You do get a good sense of scale and whereabouts of your destination and also you can still get a sort of glimpse of what it will look like.

Accepting phone calls on the mac is so cool. even when my phone is right next to me I do it. Very useful feature.

On the other side, the new look for the volume indicator is much worse than the old look. And I feel like the placement is off as well.
