Uh so this is annoying, how do I fill a window with an application? thats what the green button used to do but now it does the full screen action

e: Ok, here's how you do it: select the green button and hold alt. The animation for this seems kind of laggy though

Maximize was always odd to me on OS X. It seemed to just save window sizes you previously, never always maximize. I would assume you have to manually stretch the window now.

So far, liking almost everything except for the ultra bright default folder icon.

Also, miss the old font. Helvetica doesnt really look great as a system font. It also feels more jaggier than Mavericks as that was fairly smooth.

I'm still on Snow Leopard because I felt Lion had made my older Macbook Pro sluggish.. Are there any benchmarks out yet or should I just give up on upgrading my duck tape thing?

(intel core duo, 2.53, 8gigs, ssd)

Instead of Yosemite i suggest you to jump on Mavericks, probably less heavy than Yosemite and runs waaaay better than Lion and Mountain Lion and it's still modern feature-wise.

I don't like how you can't hear the volume when you're adjusting it.
System Preferences -> Audio

How would I go about doing a clean install of this? I wanted to while I installed it earlier and it didn't give me the option.
You need to create a bootable USB drive. It isn't officially supported, but there are tons of tutorials on how to do it online and it's relatively easy. (use a recent one though, the method changed with Mavericks). Once you boot from the USB, it's a matter of erasing your main partition using Disk Utility and then installing normally.

Also, something to be aware of, sometimes doing a clean install may corrupt or remove the Recovery partition which disables Find my Mac and it's a bitch to get back. It happened on my old Mac and I eventually gave up.

I don't usually care about apps breaking since I don't typically use that many daily aside from the browser and such but here's hoping it doesn't break things I use for school ;_;

Welp. I am installing it.
I should have done my work before installing it lol. At least I have an excuse for surfing gaf now

Is Handoff disabled until iOS 8.1? I know support was spotty during the Public Beta for Mid-2011 MacBook Air models (it seemed to come and go with each new version), but they support the requisite version of Bluetooth so the feature should work... The option to enable it isn't present in the "shipping" version of Yosemite.

Is there any compelling reason to switch from Firefox to Safari? Would be simpler to stick with Apple apps but I'm used to Firefox.

I can get handoff to work going from macbook air to iPhone 6 but not the other way around. Anyone else have this issue? Probably a user error on my part but thought I've done everything I need to get it up and running..hmmm.

I dunno. Handoff with iOS devices? iCloud bookmark syncing?

it is fast and works well but the features that make me use it over other browsers are mostly based on integration with other Apple devices. so it may be useless to someone else.

Smoother experience (especially with regards to gestures) and better Javascript performance. YMMV, but I find Safari is better at memory management than Firefox.

Otherwise, they're pretty equivalent. If those aren't enough to convince you, you might be better off sticking with Firefox.

Edit:What LCFiner said is true as well. Forgot about those features.

My installation just completed. I'm a fan of this new look. Running on a new Retina 13inch MBP btw. Runs really well.

My God, Airdrop finally works the way I've always wanted it to. So easy to transfer files back and forth!
I still don't know how to get Airdrop to work between my MBA and my iPhone.

But anyway, does anyone know how to turn on the SMS relay feature? It doesn't seem to be on by default, at least.

Your phone needs to have iOS 7+ and both Bluetooth enabled for the Mac and iPhone.

To send from iPhone to Mac, after you have Bluetooth enabled, you should see your user icon in the iOS share sheet. Just tap it and the files will go to your Downloads folder.

To send from Mac to iPhone, same thing but also enable Airdrop from your control center. Then when you see your icon on the Airdrop finder window, just drag whatever files you want to send to your phone to the icon. Photos transfer almost instantly.

Oooh, that makes more sense. I thought it came with 8.0.1 and I missed it somehow.

I'm at 8.0.2, so it should work... Guess I can try again.

Thanks guys.

Clarified it.

Alright, I'm gonna try switching.

Only phone calls sort of work on computers right now. Texts and all of that will come with iOS 8.1.

This is going to take years to download...

And I need to copy all my porn hanging out in the Downloads folder off so I can do a clean install :/

My 13" Retina seems to be getting hotter than it usually does. Anyone else notice this?

Yeah, just noticed this. Im going to give it some time and a few hours before I can say something definitive. Nonetheless, my 2011 non retina 15" cpu temps are at 52˚C whereas they are normally 38-40˚C...and for some reason my discrete gpu is active...

Probably spotlight

Edit: Holly crap Safari is a masterpiece!

Wow, I have zero luck finding a "clean" Mavericks version to try out.
Guess I have to jump on a pirate ship.

That's what I was thinking. I hope so.

Yeah. My 15" 2013 rMBP is chugging. I guess itll take some time before its smooths. I think spotlight is indexing?

That would probably be it. I've been on the beta for 2 months and my 13" rMBP is consistently running around 30 degrees (celsius) unless I call in the GPU or really intensive apps.

Edit:For comparable temps with the post above, it's running at 38C measured directly on the heatsink.
