I like how that I agree with points, then say how someone might think of it with a slightly misinterpreted term, then attacked by people who agree with my original points.

God bless you, GAF

Well, in the same movie thread, you misused the expression deus ex machina and called Million Dollar Baby a made-for-TV film (which makes it incredibly obvious that you haven't seen it, as it has a look and subject matter that will never, ever get made for TV). Welcome to the real world, where your lack of knowledge and intelligence will get yourself bashed on.

I saw "The Aviator" with some friends the other day, and after seeing it, I was like, "So THIS is what Hollywood has been clamoring about all this time....

"Hmmmmmmmm...." :lol

It was a pretty good movie, but Jesus Christ....

While the majority of the nominations are pretty ho-hum (still miffed about Giamatti being left out and House of Flying Daggers not receiving a nomination for foreign language film, The Sea Inside will easily win, it's a magnificent film, but still), there are a few categories that I'm totally digging.

1. Best Actress -- Catalina Sandino Moreno (Maria Full of Grace) and Immelda Staunton (Vera Drake) both receiving nominations makes me very happy. Maria Full of Grace and Vera Drake were outstanding films that have been brushed aside in favor of larger more well-known films. Kate Winslet was fantastic in Eternal Sunshine, but frankly, these two women gave better performances, I hope one of them wins.

2. Before Sunset getting a screenplay nomination shows that even in our modern day fascination with large epic films, a little romantic conversation piece still can get recognized. If there is any justice in this world, we will be seeing Linklater, Hawke and Delpy walk up to the podium to accept their award.

3. Documentary -- While a good number of people are familiar with Super Size Me, I am thrilled that Born into Brothels and Story of the Wheeping Camel were nominated. Born into Brothels should win this one hands down, but I love how documentaries are becoming more accepted in the mainstream.

4. Best Supporting Actress -- Wow, we've got a three way tie in my eyes. Sophie Okonedo (Hotel Rwanda), Laura Linney (Kinsey) and Virgina Madsen (Sideways) gave fantastic performances in their respective films. In the end, I hope it goes to Laura Linney.

It's funny, you must be an exact mirror replica of me because I agree with every single point here. In fact, this is exactly what I want to happen. Also, I share your feels about it being ho-hum for the most part.

Sideways seems promising. I've only seen the trailer and heard the glowing reviews. I'll be sure to see it when it's released here later.

How the hell does that qualify as a British film? It was funded entirely by American companies.

Every fuckin movie LOOKS LIKE something, you know, cause it's a FUCKING VISUAL ART. You know, if I say, it LOOKS like a goddamn made for tv movie, it's because it HAS THE LOOKS OF IT. Like a PICASSO LOOKS LIKE CUBISM. It's not like you LOOK LIKE YOU'RE A DUMBASS, where it's only an opinion based on something you SAID, and not your actual looks.

Million Dollar Baby doesn't have THE LOOK OF a made-for-tv movie. Write something that makes sense, and don't make assumptions on freakin previews, dude.

How about we just agree to disagree, and you stop leaping on my dick (of which this is the second time I've noted it).

I don't agree on even this, since your opinion is uneducated and worthless. And I have a tendancy to leap on uneducated and worthless posts, yes. Sorry bout that. I will agree, though, that this discussion is pointless, and therefore I end it HERE, or after whatever witty comment you choose to put after this witty one.

I actually did see Million Dollar Baby, and what made me think of it being a made for TV movie was the premise, not the top notch acting and production values, but the actual plot. Good movie, but in my eyes it is still not as good as everyone is making it out to be. Opinions are subjective, we've all got one, doesn't make one person better than another, especially since we're talking about movies.

Wow, is it just me or is that list much better than the OSCAR one? Eternal Sunshine for best picture? Gondry and Mann for director? Gael Garcia Bernal for best actor? Damn fucking straight.

I disagree with you, but since you've actually SEEN the movie, your opinion is worth sharing.

Oh yeah, why do I disagree? Because I rarely see deep movies that are all at once about
redemption, dignity, dedication, fulfillment, fatherly love, elderly bonds, religion, euthanasia
AND boxing in movie theaters, nevermind on the freakin TV.

Please note: Million Dollar Baby was deemed ineligible for those awards. If it had been, I'd say that a fair few of your elations would be squashed.

And rightfully so! ;) (I love Eternal Sunshine, though, don't get me wrong. I just wish Kaufmann would do a straight movie just for once, to prove he can really write something involving without relying on fucked up narrative structures).

Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events

I think we have a winner.
The entire movie was breathtaking and the end credits were unequeled.

Actually, the end credits was the whole movie for me. Speaking of the fan of the books, I was sorely disappointed by the film.

Why the FUCK is David Carradine not on that list?

I totally forgot about that. This list just got worse.

The oscars are really just a popularity contest among the hollywood elite, so I don't even really care about the list at all. I think if I ever won one, I'd sell it on ebay.
