This is really cool but how does it rank players? dos it do that stupid thing that MasterOverwatch does and just rank you by hours played or does it actually do some proper math?

Cuz I'm not mad at being ranked the 188th Reaper on PSN.

It's not based on games played. Looks like they weigh all the stats somehow. Completely arbitrary of course

Yeah, I'm curious how they determine your rating score. Apparently I'm not a monster in any individual stat with my Winston, but my score/min and medals carries me to a high rank.

And looking at other profiles, it actually tells you how you're trending in each individual stat once you're in their database, and by how much. Love stuff like that.

This site must be catching on, or they're still adding player data. Went from 50k to 150k PSN players in the database overnight.

Where are you seeing information spread out like this?

Looks like I actually played well during our flurry of losses yesterday. Im ranked at the 80+ percentile in most of those stats. Now I dont feel as bad.

overbuff is officially legit.

One thing to keep in mind is that there is no overwatch API afaik so this is all scraped data and they aren't scraping everyone's profile, just people that look up profiles so all your stats are being compared with people that actually care about their stats.

Yeah, I figured that was the case. It would be great if there was an official Blizzard site that was this comprehensive with stat breakdowns and had every player.

It doesnt have the presentation of MasterOverwatch, but it has the stats. So many stats.

Im just wondering how they come up with the rating and world rank scores and what they are relative to.

I'm curious about this as well. I don't think it's total score like Master Overwatch, but it's hard to tell considering their databases are different. My rankings seem more in line with score/min ranking on Master Overwatch, not total score ranking, so I'm guessing they have their own algorithm that determines skill instead of a total score? No idea.

How do I increase score/minute for Zarya without being suicidal?

I guess I play her too conservatively since I'm like rank 10,000 for score/minute with her. Maybe I focus too much on trying to kill full health enemies when I should be trying to just damage everyone.

You can get a glimpse of what's going on by looking at the leaderboard and comparing the rankings between overview/primary stats. You can see which stats are weighed and which are mostly ignored (for example obj time and healing varies greatly in offensive leaderboard between individual entries) but elims are all 19+ etc.

It's all ranked by "Rating" which is some arbitrary value calculated from the rest of the stats. I don't see how they calculate this exposed anywhere

It actually makes me think about which stats I would weigh, and how, when it comes to determining player rankings for each hero. Playing the objective, how long you're on fire, e/d ratio? It's an interesting question, and probably should be different for each hero category.

Don't stop shooting, mostly. Right click when you've got decent charge, only stopping to focus on closer enemies and / or to up shields.

She's got plenty armor and health to be a bit aggressive, but knowing when to save shield for your retreat or when to use it to push is a big part of her dynamic.

Also my Junkrat is preeeeety high up there, just not enough matches played yet to have any ranking. Neat.

Started a defence in Kings Row as Zenyatta, the doors open and 5 Widowmakers (with their PS4 body shot powers still in place) pop out, needless to say I was initially terrified.
...until it turned out none of them were particularly accurate and got wrecked.

Yeah, sometimes I just hang back by the objective rather than overextend trying to get a few more kills/points. But perhaps, to climb the Overwatch ranks, I need to step it up!

I mean you get score for everything so raising spm is mostly you just being more involved all the time. Doing damage, killing people, killing sentries/turrets/teleporters/traps, capping points, escorting the payload, blocking damage, etc. You get score for all of it so you just have to do more of it more of the time.

The players that type "ez" or similar in the chat are ALWAYS the worst player on that team. I guess they've been getting shit on so much that once they actually win a round they go kinda crazy.

Mr Nash

square pies = communism
It's kind of impressive how terrible this community is.

I guess I've been lucky thus far and avoided a good deal of the unpleasant folk thus far. Then again, I play quite late at night. The worst I usually get is someone bragging how much pot they just smoked. =p

Once competitive starts, though, I expect things to be a gong show of salty, toxic people, as Blizzard gets hit by a maelstrom of reports. When one's rank is on the line is when I expect people to get a whole lot more terrible.

Man, that feeling when as a Tracer you feel like you won the game, despite not charging for the point head on.

Just played a game on Volskaya and towards the end I snuck in the back, killed a Hanzo who was way too distracted.

Found a Turret and shot at it enough to get the dwarf to come over and repair it. Throw a sticky on him to eliminate them both.

Snuck around back to clean up the Zenyatta with one clip+melee because I missed a bit.

At this point my team shows up and starts attacking to the point that Zarya has maybe 50 health left, so I finish her off as well.

Ended the game with 4 Gold Medals.

I'm actually starting to like Tracer now, go figure. Though I've realized when she's useful and when she's dead weight.

The other two people on the enemy team was a Reaper and a Reinhart, and the Reinhart I wouldnt' even bother attacking unless his armor was already gone.

Overbuff is gonna be sweet for really checking out how you fucked up in a gaming session.

It's also gonna be good for exposing weak links on your team lol

She strikes me as a chaotic character that distracts. She also carves good chunks of health and will have the upper hand in most cases against single wandering targets. I have trouble hitting her from really up close most of the time hehe.

Nooblord says : ez

[ragemode] NO IT WASN'T. YOU WON WHILE THE PAYLOAD WAS ON OVERTIME RIGHT NEXT TO THE FINISHING POINT AND YOUR PHARAH GOT A LUCKY "JUSTICE RAIN FROM ABOVE". [/ragemode]

"Your D.VA is in the 5th percentile, breh."

So is Overbuff also affected by the Battle.net stats outage or whatever? Because it can't find my BNet profile. I haven't played in a couple of days, maybe that's why?

So does Overbuff track all players? There are players I can check out that Im pretty sure have never checked out the site before.

I guess this question also applies to masteroverwatch

I mostly play Mercy and have no idea if my Overbuff numbers are good or not. =p

Higher percentile = you're outpacing that percent of players on average.

90th percentile means you're better than 90 percent of other players on that character.

But, it's only for people that sign up on the site, since there's no API yet for Overwatch.

Overbuff has gained 35K players since I last looked at it three hours ago.

I need to start narrowing down my hero choices. Whenever I look at people above me (I'm at 77%), they're always much pickier about who they play.

At this point, here's my decision-making (unless my team has a gaping hole in it in solo queue)...

Escort Attack:
Zarya, Genji*, Pharah**, Reaper***, and lastly Soldier 76 or Tracer if we need a desperate contest

Escort Defend:
Soldier 76, Pharah**, Junkrat, and lastly Tracer if we need a desperate hold

Assault Attack:
Zarya, Genji*, Pharah**, and lastly Soldier 76 or Tracer if we need a desperate contest

Assault Defend:
Symmetra until the first point falls, Soldier 76, Pharah**, Junkrat, Reaper***, Lucio, and lastly Tracer if we need a desperate hold

Control:
Reaper***, Pharah**, Tracer, Genji*, Lucio

Hybrid:
See Assault choices for first pick, and then Escort choices for what I will often switch to once the point is won.

R.I.P.:
McCree, Widowmaker****

*Provided their comp features squishies and no more than one of Winston, Zarya, or Mei.
**Provided they don't have an effective Soldier 76 or Widowmaker.
***Provided there are at least two tanks to bust and preferably no Pharah.
****I will only break her out of cryo if they have an abundance of squishies or turrets.

I hope they tweak McCree to a place where I can pick him ahead of Soldier 76 again.

98th percentile Tracer!

Lately, I can't ever play her since everyone rushes to pick their Genji / Widow / Hanzo.

I can rarely justify putting a Tracer with that, but I'm just going to start #YOLO #SOLO picking her.

Yea I guess that's true. A good number of the posts there are for finding groups. It's so bizarre that Bungie doesn't have match making for so many activities.

Edit: regarding Bastion, I suppose I must be playing awful groups all of the time. Because I can choose him/it and be assured to get at least 30 kills.

Your avatar looks familiar...lol

So if Overbuff doesn't show a rank, like the infinite symbol, does that simply mean i haven't played these characters enough to matter?

And why is my Symmetra shown with a world rank of #670 when my Junkrat shows 82%? Why the different ratings?

If you're getting a number instead of a percent, it means your are high enough in the percent to show otherwise.

My Winston is #193 but if I hover over I'm 97th%

Also hover over the infinity symbol and it will tell you it needs more games to display.
