Overwatch |OT4| You Want A Good Genji, But You Need The Bad Hanzo

No I meant that they didn't shield anyone for nearly the entire round not that they just forgot at that moment

In all fairness, when I started playing Symmetra, I too forgot about shielding most of the time. That guy just might've been trying out Symmetra for the first time or something, probably after getting utterly bodied by one in a previous game.

haha is she saying "death comes"? That's actually really funny. I've heard her call people "tosser" and "wanker" as well, I think she only does it with her punk skin equipped.

Yeah she did, haven't heard tosser and wanker either since i only play her vanilla skin. Might pick up the punk skin to see what happens.

I'm apparently 33-35 in comp right now and at rank 63 which is in the 92nd percentile for Overwatch

Should be doing better I feel like, but its all good, I mostly do a mix of Solo Queue, 2 mans and 3 man groups. Group compositions are still a struggle, I hate having someone wait to pick a character until the very end and then picking McCree on defense :/

Pharaoh on console is still a mess though, nobody ever goes for her at all, leaving me as a Zarya trying to fumble my controller and hit an airborn moving target

I need to find a dedicated good healer. Having a Lucio main go up against a Lucio off player makes a huge difference, same with Mercy players as well. I wish I didn't suck at both of them, but if we're desperate for a healer I'll go Zenyatta

I feel like many of my losses was because me and my friend would be forced to go tank/healer while the rest of the group went all reapers and McCree

For those of you who play Zarya, do you rely more on her beam or her alt-fire grenades? I usually try to play closer to people and beam them, but I've been watching a few different streams and it seems like it's more of a strategy to stay at mid-range and bomb them, then try to beam enemies if they close in. I guess that makes more sense, because you can shield the front-line people while you hang back a bit.

I logged into the PTR and played a few games. Some thoughts:

  • Ana's weapon is the least impressive part of her kit. The Sleep Dart is incredibly good, but its value scales with how coordinated your team is. If you can sneak it behind Reinhardt's shield and your teammates can avoid touching him, it's almost broken. And stopping ultimates is so satisfying. Her Biotic Grenade is fantastic - throw it at the payload for max value! And her ult is - wow. But again, it scales with coordination. I think Ana is very good, but it's hard to maximize her value in pick-up games.
  • Zenyatta is nuts. He might be my favorite hero now. You have enough survivability to escape a situation that's going bad now, which is great. It's made me a little too reckless though at times - I need to play a lot more with him to get my instincts right.
  • McCree is also crazy good. I'm not good enough to get maximum value from his left-click, but he's super scary powerful now.

Both in situations, I have a hard time aiming the bombs but they do much better DPS at the cost of having to reload constantly. It should really be whatyoure most comfortable with rather then what the best players are capable of doing

So tired of losing on sudden death to 5 reinhard/winston.whatever cheese teams. Are they pushing the new patch to live anytime soon?

I wonder if they will pull back on McCree a bit... They said in today's live stream that he was part of the reason that they dropped Mercy's boost back down to 30%, because he could just shred everything.

Huh, what was your placement?

I'm 24-14 and at 60, placed at 57. Maybe I just need to play more for it to settle but I feel like the matches I've had were a slow climb and the losses basically wipe out the last handful of wins in a fell swoop.

210 headshot damage is just dumb. They had to do something about it, it would have been completely broken otherwise.

65 was my highest placement. I tend to always get gold medals even when playing tank so I don't lose all that much on loss and I gain a lot on wins. I probably should be rated higher, but it's whatever, I'm just in it for the purple coins

Every time I hit 49, I get paired with weak team and dropped back to 48. The game is messing with me, man. I need to hit 50 to quit playing competitive.

I've been talking about how nearly OP the Orb of Discord is since beta.

Then, he got underused due to how quickly he dies.

If they're going to keep his survivability buff, which they really need to, that Orb is going to need to be addressed.

Tanks are going to be hard to play in the near future. Hard to justify playing with.

I tend to use more her grenades simply because her ideal position is behind a tank who's going to receive her shield, so she's usually not close enough to use her beam, and they're also useful to harass (or kill if you're lucky) distant enemies when attacking or defending, but if the enemy team is pushing towards my team it's pretty much 50/50. Give the shield to the tank on the front, ideally Reinhardt, and shoot them with grenades until I go in with my shield on and start using the beam at close range. By doing that you're pretty much constantly charged and pushing the enemy team away.
I pick her only when I'm able to "use" other tanks to keep a high charge consistently, otherwise she's almost useless.

In all fairness, when I started playing Symmetra, I too forgot about shielding most of the time. That guy just might've been trying out Symmetra for the first time or something, probably after getting utterly bodied by one in a previous game.

If that's the case, why would they try out a character they've never used before in competitive? Makes no sense. Pick a character that you'll actually be useful with.

>tfw you see 2 teleporters in the spawn room and an idle Symmetra that's choosing a new character to hide what she's done

Heh. We were defending the first point in King's Row when an enemy 76 used his ult. Me and a teammate both hid in the alcove under the statue; I used the "hello" line and they did the same back. Little exchanges like that always make me smile.

Hey
I had a symmetra once
on control
who wouldn't switch.

Also had them on the match before as offense in payload

Stupid Symmetra mains.

So, I see everyone talking about the DVa "buff", but won't Zarya still annihilate her? I get so excited when I see a DVa or two as Zarya, her beam just makes the Mech a non issue.

Competitive matchmaking is shit. I'm rank 41-42 and I'm routinely getting paired against guys that are around rank 50. And no, they aren't paired with a group of guys with a lower rank.

It really feels like the game just wants you to lose sometimes and there's nothing you can do about it. It just finds the dumbest motherfuckers in the world to pair you with against guys that are untouchable. Here I am getting silver medals for obj kills when I have 1 of them and I'm just getting steamrolled by people.

Depends how powered up you are, because in certain cases DVa will just out-dps you.

Also she makes zarya's grenades a non-issue.

At the very least she's gonna gobble up more graviton surges...which is one of the worst feelings in the game.

I don't think I've ever died to a DVa, just a few shots of her guns charge you like crazy.

As far as eating gravitons, I had that happen once, now I always make sure the mech is dead first. Similar to not doing a graviton until Rein's shield is broke, or he's dead, lol.

Tracer on console. As soon as I seen her on the other team, I know the next few minutes of my life are going to be unpleasant.

I dunno man, I'm just trying to explain as to why they might not have put up shields, lol. I mean there has to be a reason as to why someone playing Symmetra doesn't shield their teammates, and the only reasonable explanation I have is that they weren't playing her often or at all until that match and weren't aware of how the shields worked.

In fact, when I started out as Symmetra, I thought I could only shield one person at a time. It took me a while to figure out I could shield everybody. :p

Some will shield only once the match officially starts to build ult. But forget to when the attackers are released.

I'm giving up on playing flankers on solo queue. People just don't stay on the objective if there isn't someone else there to tell them to do it. I've seen so many games lost with a Pharah or Lucio hiding around a corner from the payload right next to the point and not running up to it to get overtime.

No I'm just talking about regualr grenades. It pretty much forces zarya to get to her range, and Dva can just block out incoming attack from the other team while waiting out zarya's bubble.

Yeah I've taken all of temple of anubis in under 1m20s 3 or 4 times. 1m16s is my best.

You'd be surprised how bad teams get when you run by their line of defense and start capping at times.

Yeah, anytime I see that familiar old setup of a Torbjorn and/or Bastion behind a Reinhardt, I immediately switch to Tracer and zip right around them to the point. It's fairly obvious their whole defense is based on nobody ever getting past the first chokepoint, and the panic when they realize they have to move all their defenses is beautiful.

How the HELL do I get a full rank for "winning" against a team where 5 people left.
Blizzard, your stuff is broken hard.

I can't tell if this is a joke post because this is what everyone's been asking for lol. If the other team left, it was because your team was crushing them super hard. If they left, it means they were being beat, so you would have still gotten a full rank anyways. Before, you would get a centimeter of ranking if someone left, made the last 10-15 minutes a waste of time.

Wow, I actually won a match! Over the last day, I went 4-10 and went from 66 to 62. I think I’m going to take a break for a while until the Ana update comes out. Apparently, matchmaking hates me right now.

I wish i could play more hanamura.
I love that map.

I could play Hanamura all day. Point B of it is the most fun I've had among all maps.

?
Unless you get a jump on her and headshot her multiple times at point blank, she'll freeze you with a tiny bit of health left and then kill you.

I wall behind him so that he can't escape, and cryofreeze as soon as he goes in wraith form to seal the deal after.

Some will shield only once the match officially starts to build ult.

Can someone confirm it builds ult?

I play every character pretty regularly based on the enemy team comp and my own TF2 style, but I been thinking at 50+ hours it's time I find a few to focus on and stick with so I don't become Jack of All Trades and never excelt at a smaller selection.

We were losing hard. Then one foe leaves and it's all downhill.
In my opinion if somebody leaves, then most of the punishment should fall on the leaver (unless it's a DC, DCs need some kind of leniency, like a repeated offence counter).
If somebody leaves, the entire match shouldn't award anything but minimal score. It's frustrating otherwise.

Well then, in that case, it's a way of Blizzard saying "we are sorry you had to deal with a bunch of leavers, leading to an unbalanced match, which leads to a more boring match, so here's the normal amount of rank points so that your time wasn't wasted." I'm ok with it. It was stupid that you could spend 30 minutes in one match, then have one person leave and get virtually nothing out of it. 30 minutes. For nothing.

I still haven't touched competitive on any platform but why are people leaving? Is there not a penalty for doing so?

All the ones recently that I've noticed are if my team is attacking first and we go the distance on the assault/escort maps people will just drop out at the start of their attack. Apparently they don't even want to try and match it.

There is a penalty along with too many quits will get you banned from the season.
