They need to increase the min rank limit to play competitive to 50 or 60 at least.

This is not the answer. Some people will want to make a smurf (for instance I own both ps4 and PC versions myself). No point in making people grind for no reason.

Even League of Legends had to make it easier for new players to get to ranked. Crappy players will float towards the bottom. And if you think they suck then why are you getting paired with them? If your MMR was so good then surely you would not be on their team.

That's all there is to it. mmr does not lie.

edit: Only legit reason people could ever have is if they are paired with friends in a party. Then yes- even if you are super good you might get paired with bads if your friend messes up the curve

Holy moly, playing Pharah is fun as hell once you start playing her right. But that also makes me realize how amazing the professionals are at her, especially Seagull.

They need to increase the min rank limit to play competitive to 50 or 60 at least. Game is infested with lvl 25 scrub players who are absolutely shit.
Making people go through 500~ matches before playing competitive is not a guarantee that they'll be good. I've also seen plenty of level 70+ players who are garbage.

Really? Not clicking with Pharah or Junkrat?

Junkrat is one of my favorite characters. I mean, he's the Demo. He's extremely versatile and useful in every situation. My record in quick match with him is 13-6 so I've had some success. I honestly just suck with Pharah. I don't know what it is, but I don't do well as her. I mean, I'm shooting the rockets! They should be dead!

I'm not sure, but for me it seems that they have fixed the problem that made you lost rank faster than winning it. Today I have finished 4-4 and I have been able to gain 1 rank

I'm enjoying ranked mode a lot, sure there are leavers, but 90% of my games both teams had a really great composition and we had really equal and intense matches. I've been only playing solo q and made my way up to 55 from 48, I hope it keeps getting higher!

Got invited by a group which I was grouped up with when I was pubbing solo. They were so impressed by my pharrah that they shot me an invite which is nice. :p Even though I honestly don't think I'm more than average yet.

Love pharrah in KotH though. She's pretty much my go to when I want to be super try hard but still have fun.

Also I'm somehow the top 4% in getting medals for pharah? Ok.

One thing I've been noticing since Competitive came out is that it's exposing the bad players in my friends list. I'm not talking about skill, I'm talking about people making mistakes they shouldn't be making. Stuff like trickling in instead of grouping up, ignoring the Torb turret, not knowing the map layout, not combining ults, etc.

Back in Quick Play, this wasn't a big problem because the people they'd match you up against were just as bad, but that is not the case in Competitive. Even when facing a team with an average skill rating of 49, they know how to play this game and don't make those types of mistakes.

Junkrat is so much fun to play.

tfw a Tracer runs into your trap
tfw you hear a Genji "Ryujin no... aaaaaaaaaaaah"

I like to go kamikaze with him, since I usually take more than one with me.

Soldier is probably the class I dislike the most. They always run away :(

I love getting in people's face with Junkrat just to maybe get them with death bombs if I don't get them myself. It's always fun getting that extra unexpected kill.

Had a match against a level 70 today (I'm only 53). Fortunately I lost almost nothing for that.

Enjoying competitive a lot despite sucking at it. Leavers seem a lot rarer now.

Yeah I get barely any leavers honestly. On either side.

Maybe it's the leaver game penalty coming into effect?

Well I've been levelling up from 41 to 43. :p

I can't play rank for long. I can play 5 or so games but then I have to cool off with a break or quick play just cause it gets too intense for me.

One thing I hate about comp is how control is a BO5, I really don't understand why when the mode is already BO3 by nature, playing the same part of the map twice is fucking dumb.

Is there a more sensual feeling in overwatch than hitting another flying pharrah with a direct hit, and then following it up by leading another rocket to where she flying off to in order to eliminate her?

I'd argue no.

Also fuck, I actually used to like 2CP but I fucking dread it in rank. It's just soooooo long.

This is why, the more I think about it, applying the Time Bank method to Escort and Hybrid matches is not the way to go. Doing so will only increase the average playing time to 30 minutes/1 hour, which is too long.

While it has faults of its own, Stopwatch Rules seems the most sensible way to go.

tossing zarya shield on your pharah so she survives the direct hit, then black holing the enemy team so she can wipe them with a rocket barrage

Well thank god their zarya didn't do that. :p

Gotta say though, I've definitely gotten more wombo combos in ranked than quick play for sure. Feels so good man. Not even with voice chat really.

My solo adventure today on PS4 went 63--->59--->66, I was rewarded with being put on a team with a level 39 (AGAIN). We were crushed, I did keep my rank though!
Last time I tried solo dropped from
63 to 55, ~15 losses, lots of quitters, Hanzos and attacking Torbjorns. Never again.

Really starting to get the hang of Hanzo now, feels good not being one of those "bad" Hanzo players. It's so satisfying getting head shots with him.

I haven't had a chance to play a game in Ranked, but aside from the Gold Gun skins, why are people going through the trouble with playing a round or 20? Especially with hearing that it's been an incredibly uneven/punishing experience?

I would argue that not everyone is having a punishing experience and that any competitive play is going to be uneven sometimes. Even the best players have "off" days or "off" matches and with a 6 on 6 format in a game played for fun (we do remember that it is supposed to be for fun, right? Because reading this thread sometimes I am not so sure) you are going to have some absolutely highlight reel worthy games and then some games where you just shake your head and accept the loss.

Despite what the internet might try and tell you, Overwatch is really not serious business. (Unless you are an e-sports person and money is at stake, then, by all means, take it seriously) It's a video game and most folks are playing to have fun and enjoy the experience. For me personally, competitive is a chance to play the game with slightly higher stakes (a ranking and the chance to buy the golden guns someday) and even though I am ALWAYS trying to win and play the objective I am not about to let the game become a dominating force in my life to the point where it's making me angry, hateful, resentful or just plain mean. If it gets to that point, then it might be time to step back and think about what's really important.

Even in competitive, even bouncing around the mid 40's in rank for the past week, even solo que'ing most of the time, I am still enjoying myself. Even when a player last night suggested I "find a noose and just drop" because our team lost and evidently my Mercy play wasn't up to his standards I just shrugged it off and went on to the next game where I was on the cards with Mercy in a tight victory, I still had fun.

I hope all of this doesn't come off as too preachy. That's not my intention. But I've seen this OW community thread get progressively more negative and that makes it less fun and less useful as a community space than it could and should be. That being said, we're all here because OW has a ton of potential and is an amazing experience out of the box and we care about where it is going.

Mercy stans are so bad yall like omg they literally have an excuse for everything and cant even play lucio like why even waste peoples time

I don't even know what that's supposed to mean. "Stans"? Urban dictionary says a "stan" is an avid fan or zealot so I guess that's similar to "my waifu"? I'm guessing this is a rant against bad Mercy play and a suggestion to just play Lucio instead?

I question people accusing others of being a bad Mercy. Unless that Mercy is always running into danger or focusing on her pistol instead of healing, 9 times out of 10 that bad Mercy is always dying because her team is either too spread out or not protecting her.

Now granted, if you do run into situations like that, then it'd be best to switch to Lucio or Zenyatta.

Yeah... I don't think i've ever seen a below 30 player do well.

Agreed. Yes, you're level 26 and you got lucky/carried through your placement matches. Please, by all means, demonstrate your amazing Genji flanking ability while the enemy caps the final point.

How exactly would that work then? If you got placed lower than 50 you wouldn't be able to play competitive? So how would people improve their rank so they could play?

Oh wait, did you mean level instead of rank? I guess that would make more sense.

Eh, while not "bad" per se, there are definitely not good Mercys. The ones that lock into healbot mode on a full health Reinhardt and almost never switch, as if she worked like a TF2 medic. Or the ones that never damage boost the whole round. Or even the ones that always sit in the back as easy pickings, instead of positioning themselves in a way that their team can help defend them without halting their push.

They escape being "bad" just by virtue of the character's skill set.

I'd argue no.

One of my crowning achievements was knocking a Pharah out of the sky at long range with Soldier 76's missile. I cheered for myself.

I've been lucky with quitters, maybe one game out of the 100 I've played. I've seen a few on the other team quit because they were getting beat badly. I got randomly booted from the servers yesterday, my internet was still up, and I logged back in immediately, but the option to rejoin wasn't there, kinda lame.

I want too see a team who protects a mercy. Most of the times they are busy farming kills

I try but please understand that sometimes it's really hard. When I play Mercy I understand that too. I think the best times I've seen Mercy protection work out, is not when a team actively protects Mercy in particular, but rather a team coordinates such that Mercy is able to protect herself. If there's a Pharah on the team, and the firefight gets heavy, being available to get into the air within range so the Mercy can Guardian Angel the fuck out of the zone can be a great help.

I do try to help out mercy most times, but sometimes you can't kill a reaper fast enough when he's on her ass.

Love me a pharmercy combo though.

Today, as a whole, I met the most uncooperative and stubborn people ever, I legit alt+f4'd the game after a while. (not in competitive)

The first of the day was a competitive match on Numbani defense with 2 fucking snipers that refused to change until we won (we managed to stop the payload like 5 meters before the end) and made me work my ass off as Reinhardt, while on attack we steamrolled the fuck out of the other team in like 3-4 minutes. The rest was just a shitshow with double Hanzo, double Soldier, Genji not countering anyone on the other team and never switching. Fuck. That's what I get for playing alone.

I needed less than a level to get back to my initial score after dropping 8 levels and now I'm 3 levels away.

I almost forgot, it's almost a joke at this point, but I always get a Zenyatta on King's Row defense that never used any other support so he doesn't want to switch.

Was playing Comp last night with a few Gaffers. Met a random in our team who was an amazing Lucio. He friended us and we stomped Quick Play easily. Decided that we had 5 dudes so we needed one more for Comp. someone's friend joined us and not only was his mic awful but he was whining so much when we weren't doing well. Kept telling us who we should pick and blaming us for not killing certain characters in enemy team who was taking us out. We ended up winning that match. Even my group's leader yelled at him for whining so much. Played a few more matches where he kept whining and we lost the next one. He eventually left and my leader told his friend that he's an asshole and we're probably not gonna play with him again.

So yea, don't be an asshole. Even that random we met was nicer and never complained to us. But it turns out the friend of one of the guys in our group was. I'll never understand people who can be complete assholes towards strangers they just met.

Or spamming "I need heals" as if you're not looking at the health bars, that slightly annoys me as a Mercy, but if I'm playing Lucio or Zen, I want to strangle them.

This, for sure.

There are too many health packs in key locations to ever need to spam for heals.

I'm always appreciative of heals but I don't expect them. And I want my Mercy damage buffing as much as possible. She can make a S76 into a monster if they know how to aim at least decently.

Double soldier ain't too bad. Actually really freaking good if you have 2 really good soldiers.

Double Soldier is actually rather viable. Paired with a Pharah & Mercy / Lucio it's pretty solid on attack. If you're lucky to get a roamer like Tracer / Reaper and a tank like Rein / Hog / Zarya, you're in for good times.

On defense it can get overwhelmed but on KotH and Attack it's so good.

Down to 38, its so fucking annoying as I'm having no luck with teammates. I tried making an alt, to grind up to 25 but gave up after half a game :d
