What is Owlboy?
Long long ago (around 2008 to be exact), just as the PS360 era was well underway and Sony had to rely on passing off movie Blurays as PS3 content and games to sell that chunky block they called a console, there was word of a new Indie game called Owlboy.

The game’s 2D visuals were praised and found charming by those who watched its early footage.
Over the next few years Owlboy would fade away from the gaming world news, as hardly much was shown of its development and progress. Then in 2016 and to the surprise of many, Owlboy’s release date was revealed, legit shaking those that have thought this game went the way of FFV13.
Owlboy releases this Nov. 1st 2016 and going by the reviews, it certainly delivers.

Description (from Official website)
Explore a vibrantly crafted pixel world in this flying adventure platformer.
Being a mute, Otus struggles living up to the expectations of owl-hood. Things spiral from bad to worse with the sudden appearance of sky pirates.
What follows is a journey through monster infested ruins, with unexpected encounters and burdens no one should have to bear.

The Soundtrack
The Soundtrack will be made available for purchase after the game’s release, and will consists of a total of 67 tracks. You can purchase and check out a sample of the OST through the game’s main website:

The Owlboy review thread

Do we know what resolution this game runs at? Looks pretty high res!

I've put it on my wishlist, but I've go too much on my plate to buy it a launch.

A reminder that Humble Store has it cheapest and that you have under 48 hours to buy it for that price if you're interested.

Yay, puns!

But now I see that he has a nose rather than a beak, which leaves me... kind of conflicted. Boyowl seems much more apt in light of this revelation.

I'd say it depends on whether he was a boy who turned into an owl, in which case Owlboy is more appropriate if we follow the naming logic of, say, Batman (a man who dresses as a bat rather than a bat that dresses as a man), or an owl that turned into a boy, in which case there's a supporting argument for Boyowl. I feel that Owlboy rolls off the tongue more nicely, though.

Alright now his eyebrow/antenna are weirding me out.

You're right, boyowl is out.

He is a young fowl, an owl--also a boy--and so a bowl.

FINALLY.

I can't wait to play it in a few hours.

2016 is the year of Vaporware

Gamecentral gave it 9/10

http://metro.co.uk/2016/11/01/owlboy-review-a-real-hoot-6226617/

In Short: A superbly crafted 2D adventure that is a near perfect blend of new and old influences, in terms of both gameplay and the stunning visuals and music.

Pros: Some of the best pixel art ever in a video game, with amazing animation. Heartful storytelling, superb music, and some very clever gameplay ideas – especially the interchangeable allies.

Cons: Controls could stand to be a little tighter. The final boss is a real pain.

A 9 from gamecentral is pretty rare, they score like Edge.

Paid for this at Humble Bundle. Now it's just waiting for it to unlock.

With this out I think that largely just leaves The Iconoclasts and Miegakure as the remaining indies that have been in development forever (6 and 7 years, respectively) that are still getting updates and expected to still actually release.

Definitely looking forward to playing Owlboy but I've willfully ignored most everything about it for years to go in blind. I don't really know how it plays at this point and I couldn't be happier.

Thanks for the mention! Heart Forth Alicia is another one made during these same years.

Interesting that you can't preorder it on steam at all...

Hope it does well enough to get another 2D game out of the dev.

Oops, I meant to note specifically that those are two games I've been following over the years since first seeing them at GameSetWatch. I imagine there's others that have been in development for even longer than Owlboy that are still being worked on, too. Anyhow, don't mean to turn this OT into talk of other games. (Didn't realize you had a profile here. Been a big fan since Noitu Love 2!)

And thanks to the person that made this OT. I don't follow release dates all the time and hadn't realized this was so soon until I saw this thread pop up. This is a great "surprise" to me since I had forgotten it was coming out this holiday season.
