Pacific Rim Spoiler Thread: Today, We Are Cancelling the Use of Spoiler Tags!

Not open for further replies.
Seeing as a handful of lucky GAFers have already seen this film and are likely itching to discuss it, now's as good a time as ever for a spoiler thread. You know the drill. Nothing is off-limits, no spoiler tags are to be used, and there's no need to hold anything back.

I must know does Typhoon and Alpha die with dignity or are they just cannon fodder that never get a chance to show us what they're capable of

It looks as though Cherno goes out like a jobber in order to show off Leatherback's Class 4-ness and Striker acts as a guinea pig for Raiju's EMP power, but I'm not sure if and how Crimson Typhoon bites the dust.

Aw man, my little bro's gonna be so disappointed. He was really looking forward to seeing Cherno kick butt.

Sorry for turning this into a Q&A, but I have to ask: a friend of mine came up with a theory that Newt's fascination with the Kaiju and purchase of a Kaiju brain will lead to him actually piloting one of the beasts. Does this occur at all in the film or is it hinted at if not?

Nope, he uses the neural interface to access the kaiju's memories and figure out their plan. The problem with that is the kaiju have a hivemind and the interface is a two-way street. Now the kaiju know what the humans are up to and send the two category 4s to Hong Kong to get Newt. They also send a category 5 to protect the rift entrance.

Wow, that's surprisingly awesome. I can't wait to see how that plays out in the movie!

Does the category 5 get killed or does it set up a potential sequel?
I heard it's nearly double the height of a Jaeger.

Your fault for coming into the spoiler thread. The apocalypse got cancelled, but all the Jaegers were destroyed.

eh, I just a bit upset to have confirmation on what I already knew. The trailers weren't very secretive of what was going to happen and simple common sense could work out the plot

Still gonna what it though, can't have it bomb and ruin my chances for a sequel
when Chreno rises from the dead to tesla punch once again *points knife at del Toro "you best make it so!"

Been seeing other positive video reviews. Seems like the movie delivers in awesomeness and doesn't seem to take itself too seriously (which is not a problem when we have a robot dragging a ship sword).

Edit: What am I doing here?!!!!!! Confused the thread! lol

When I used to work for HArry Knowles I held a giant parasite from this film in my hand. This was a while back. Are they still in the movie? Like the monsters have parasites big as a small dog?

You sure that wasn't Cloverfield? Cause that sounds like the exact type of thing the monster in that movie drops off of itself that the group gets attacked by in the subway.

This is one of the the Cloverfield parasites:

The kaiju parasites are in the movie. They're sold on black market by dealers like Hannibal Chau (Ron Perlman).

I thought Mako was at least responsive enough to use CPR at the end, but the film had to have another kind of comic moment. Oh well.

If this flick succeeds, we could be seeing more movies based around the Childhood's End/Combine-like baddies in this one. Maybe they'll do a space remix for the sequel.

I just watched this. I loved it. The audience was very into it as well.

All the Jaegers should have had swords or knives in their weapon arsenal. This seemed one of the most effective ways to take out the Kaiju. Gipsy Danger just sliced one of them in two. It would be more effective than plasma cannons I think and less risky regarding collateral damage.

Did you stay for the scene halfway through the credits
Just loved how enthusiastic Charlie days character was in this

Yes, I saw it, the Chau scene right? Is there another one?

It's like Charlie seemed to come straight out of Always Sunny.

I want to see this again.

yeah that's it the Hannibal shoe scene
got quite the laugh in my audience

My audience loved Charlie Day as well.

I really thought the flashback scene was quite good. Maybe one of my favorite scenes in the movie. I thought the little girl did a great acting job.

Saw it this morning, they stole my name :o

Burst out laughing when the flying Kaiju lifted them into space/the upper atmosphere and they whipped out the sword, so ridiculous and awesome.

Both sword scenes kick major butt. But my favorite is how the Gipsy crew solves the problem of falling from the stratosphere. Like the sword, that core-boost gadget returns in the subsequent battle as the deus ex machina. Satan kaiju didn't stand a chance.

When you first see Striker fighting its really obvious how much faster the Mk5 Jaegers are.

Bring on the sequel with Mk10 Jaegers baby BOOYAH!

Cross post from non-spoiler thread. Had a blast with this flick.

Just got back.

This movie delivers on all it's promises.

Giant Robots.
Giant Monsters.
Action, excitement, cliches and humour.
Cheesy dialogue, big explosions, great effects and apocalypse cancelling.

This movie is everything I expected and more. It doesn't try and be something it isn't. It doesn't take itself too serious.

This is a true Summer Blockbuster.

Full review.

I actually thought Cherno got some good shots in, only reason it went was because it was blindsided by a second kaiju.

Crimson is the only one that went down pathetically, imo.
