Pacino vs DeNiro

For me its fairly simple DeNiro sucks now. Without Scorsese DeNiro seems to just ham it up. Pacino on the otherhand managed to not suck even when paired with Keanu.

+1 Pacino for not sucking yet.

Pacino is and always will be brilliant. His roles in Gdofather 1/2 are enough to cement that.

And waddabout his role in the third one...

It was great, too.

Well to be fair Pacino has had one Clunker.....the movie with the CG actress that he creats or some shit, I forget the name.

Atleast he wasnt in Rocky and Bullwinkle.

I don't mean to alarm you but you have dogs on your face
DeNiro seems much more willing to do sell-out roles.

Both are equally great. For Jimmy Conway and Jake LaMotta only, DeNiro deserves all the acclaim he ever had. Remember that Pacino has made some pretty shitty movies lately, including the incredibly bad Simone. I'd say Pacino is more consistent than DeNiro and chooses his movies more wisely, but DeNiro is still as great as Pacino when he wants to be.

Al Pacino all the way, man. Anyway, they are without a doubt the greatest living actors. Too bad DeNiro enjoys picking a lot of shitty ass movies. And bleh, S1m0ne wasn't too bad. :p

Wish someone could find the pic of Pacino's face when in Godfather 2, Kay tells him what happened to her pregnancy. His expression turned from caring to 'ready to kill'...awesome acting.

Both are brilliant, two of my favourite.

But I think Pacino is a more compelling actor. He always brings his characters to life and grabs my attention. In terms of movies, I don't know if I can say which 'selection' I prefer.

Robert De Niro --

Ronin
Heat
Casino
Goodfellas
Raging Bull
Taxi Driver
The Godfather: Part II

Need to see: The Untouchables, Brazil, Once Upon a Time in America

Al Pacino --

Any Given Sunday
The Insider
Donnie Brasco
Heat
Carlito's Way
The Godfather: Part III (for his acting more than anything)
Scarface
The Godfather: Part II
The Godfather: Part I

Need to see: Insomnia, Dog Day Afternoon, Serpico

And yes, I realize that the three De Niro movies that I need to see are probably better than the Pacino ones that I haven't seen. Brazil I want to see the most and maybe because I have no idea what it's about (don't tell me, though!)

I recently read somewhere that DeNiro has a few ex-wives and lots of kids he is paying child support on, so he basically takes whatever roles are available to pay the bills. Hence, Bullwinkle.

Dog Day Afternoon and Serpico are excellent films.

Haven't seen Serpico in a long time. I remember enjoying it alot. Have to watch it again for the ultimate 'cool cop'.

Another good one from the 70s I forgot:

Now I remember, I read it in Parade magazine:

Q. Why does Robert De Niro take roles that are beneath him in films like Analyze This, Meet the Parents and Meet the Fockers? And what’s with that American Express ad?
—Dennis McCarthy, Boston, Mass.

A. Those roles are not “beneath him.” That’s what actors do: take roles. What’s more, De Niro, 61—rarely a big box-office draw—often must finance his own projects. He also has to support five children by three mothers. His production company made a bundle on the films you cited. As for the commercial (by Martin Scorsese), American Express is the major sponsor of De Niro’s Tribeca Film Festival.

The problem with Deniro is that he had an awesome streak of movies in the early 90's. He hasn't done much since that time. Whereas Pacino has had some great roles in that same time period.

DeNiro's performance in "Cape Fear" gets no respect, but I've always thought it was awesome.

There have been times when I've actually felt embarrassed for Robert DeNiro (Frankenstein; his recent appearance on Saturday Night Live). I've never felt embarrassed for Pacino, on the other hand--even when I wanted to walk out of Devil's Advocate, at least Pacino was good in it.

Pre-sellout DeNiro > Pacino > post-sellout DeNiro.

If this were true, every actress in Hollywood would be doing porn.

um

Deniro > Pacino.

I love pacino...scarface is probably my all time favorite movie..but regardless, Deniro is a better "ACTOR" than pacino.

Pacino is great...but one thing pacino tends to do More than Deniro....is play a character but brings alot of himself Into the character rather than BE the character...kinda like how Tom Cruise always seems kinda like Tom Cruise but with a different name and title (with the exception of collatoral)

Deniro on the other hand Will embody a character tottally different where you cant even believe that's actually deniro playing that role.

Watch Goodfellas...then Watch Cape Fear.

I also tend to have liked more movies that Deniro was in than Pacino was in...alot of Pacino's recent movies have been average or crap......

peace

Time ta STEP IT UP
I'd go with DeNiro. They're both past their prime, and I like DeNiro's past films more enjoyable.

Cape Fear rocked. Bronx Tail is my favorite film. Goodfellas is constantly played at my house.

my friend was wondering about the american express ad as well, he was like "way to sell out de niro".
personally i like both, alot. and for me that cafeteria scene in heat was like the ultimate scene as far as movies go.
anyone ever notice how pacino always has a big speech scene before the end to most of his memorable movies?
i do agree de niro acted in more clunkers, however both acted in some pretty decent movies thathavent been listed such as the score, hide and seek, the recruit, the merchant of venice etc.

De Niro seems like hes just cash whoring or something now though. Still have to give it to him for his amazing sex scene in jackie brown though.

Both are good but I like Pacino better. He just makes bad films great just because he's in it.

And hasn't anyone seen Scent of a Woman yet?

Out of order, I'll show you out of order! You don't know what out of order is Mr. Trask! I'd show you but I'm too old, I'm too tired, and I'm too fuckin' blind. If I were the man I was five years ago I'd take a flame-thrower to this place. Out of order, who the hell do you think you're talking to? I've been around you know? There was a time I could see. And I have seen, boys like these, younger than these, their arms torn out, their legs ripped off. But there isn't nothin' like the sight of an amputated spirit, there is no prosthetic for that. You think you're merely sending this splendid foot-soldier back home to Oregon with his tail between his legs but I say that you are executing his soul. And why? Because he's not a Baird man. Baird men, you hurt this boy, you're going to be Baird Bums, the lot of ya. And Harry, Jimmy, Trent, wherever you are out there, fuck you too.

Talking trash on either of these cats is rediculous. In fact, this topic starter is just asking for a strong PIMP hand to the face.

How come Merchant of Venice never got any attention? It only has 651 votes at IMDB, for instance, and I don't remember it being released in theatres. Haven't seen it myself, but it looks interesting.

Hey they are both great actors but you have to admit DeNiro has been in shittyt movies for the past few years. I wish he would get off his comedy kick he seems to be on.

I think it is unfair to compare the two, considering people who love scarface are probably going to argue that pacino is the best and people who love goodfellas are going to argue for deniro.

My personal opinion is that deniro is better. But thats just me. I think Raging Bull was the greatest sports movie ever made, so that kinda makes me biased. I love scarface, but i cant pretend that the movie was amazing because of acting, it was jsut straight badassery.

also, once upon a time in america is a good film although long and kinda slow, like serpico

I'm a DeNiro fan. He may not have consistently great roles, but his great ones are untouchabe. He gets a pass for Raging bull and Taxi Driver alone.

Actually, that wasn't fair to De Niro. I should have just said "You've got it wrong". Both actors transcend themselves. Michael Corleone is nothing like Tony Montana is nothing like Vincent Hanna, such as Vito Corleone is nothing like Jake La Modda is nothing like Jimmy Conway.

...huh? What about people that think Scarface and Goodfellas are both fantastic? *head explodes*

Hey Any of you ever see the old softcore porn movies Deniro was in? :lol

I personally think Scarface is really overrated and honestly not that good of a movie. I love goodfellas, but its Donnie Brasco that makes me a pacino fan more than any other movie.

DiNero gets the edge for me. He's more diverce Pacino does the same yelliing thing in all his films. DiNero can get the same emotion across with just a look. Him and Clint have the two best stares in Hollywood.

Pacino > DeNiro. Ok, Deniro may be a better actor, but Pacino is THE MAN. I even suffered through an episode of Angels in America just because Al Pacino was in it..

Socreges said:
Terrible? I thought it was good, but primarily for Pacino above all else.

Yeah, terrible. The football scenes were cheesy, the editing was haphazard and sloppy, and I thought the acting was way over the top.....and Pacino didn't do much to save it. Frankly, I got the impression that he realized he made a mistake signing up for the movie somewhere in the middle of shooting because some scenes he looks disinterested.
