How dose ROTR sales compare with respects to Until Dawn, Bloodborne, The Order and Gears of War?

Shameless self-quote from a few pages back, regarding The Order.

The Order went on to sell 368k by June (5 months of sales).

Yepp.

Week 1 RoTR ~42k X360 and Xbox One
Week 1 RoTR ~35k Xbox One only
Week 1 The Order ~39k PS4 only

Week 2 RoTR ~26k X360 and Xbox One
Week 2 RoTR ~ 22k Xbox One only (assuming same 85/15 split as week 1)
Week 2 The Order ~17k PS4 Only.

Rise of the tomb raider sold ~30% more in it's second week than The Order. That's huge!

Also that's only up untill June, should've sold another few thousand since :) probably at atleast 370k by now.

UD and GeoW both opened at <20k. 35k < 1886 < 45k. Bloodborne around 45k.

None of these games compare to TR though. Gears as an IP perhaps, but that was just a remaster.

Believe Bruno re-calculated the estimated "high" of the order to around 39k a few weeks back when we got AC: Syndicate numbers, and Kyonashi, hinted that it was on the higher end of the estimate. So roughly 39k first week.

And yes, TR, with name recognition, and pretty good scores all around (86 meta), shouldn't just about outdo a brand new IP with a Meta of 63.

Great numbers for Battlefront. Eager to see how the sales will look when Star Wars comes out. I can see a small bump (5,000-10,000 copies) during Christmas week.

Not many people seem to realize this, but the Xbox One is in big trouble in the UK. Nevermind Halo failing in the UK. I think the Tomb Raider performance is really bad news for Microsoft. Barring a miracle in North America, Tomb Raider will end up as the perfect reason for big publishers to avoid Xbox One exclusivity. When publishers look at Tomb Raider's performance, they will see a high scoring AAA title with incredible brand recognition that sold <70,000 units in its second largest market. There's just no other way to put it: when they look at Tomb Raider, they will see a huge flop. I can't imagine any publisher with business sense will enter into an exclusive agreement with Microsoft. If publishers were on the fence about 'jumping in', Tomb Raider tanking will be a good enough reason to not hop over.

The reality is the Xbox One cannot remain competitive in the UK without the extra support of large publishers. Securing the Fifa deal was a fantastic move by Microsoft, but they're going to need more than Fifa to make a comeback. Looking at 2016 and beyond, I just don't see how the Xbox One can close the gap. It really might be over for them in the UK.

Aside from The Division, Dark Souls 3, and Fifa, Microsoft haven't announced or revealed third-party deals for future games. After the disastrous performance of Tomb Raider, I just cannot see publishers like Take2 (GTA VI, possibly Red Dead Redemption 2) or CD Projekt RED (Cyberpunk 2077) aligning their future games with the Xbox One. How will Microsoft survive in the UK if major games like GTA VI, Destiny 2, Kingdom Hearts 3, Infinity 4.0, Final Fantasy 15 etc. all have PlayStation deals?

Xbox can still get marketing deals, who cares? Even the game they market still sell better on PS4(Fallout, The Witcher, Dragon Age). As long as artificial exclusives are not being created it's no big deal. Sony can't market everything nor will they want to.

Bloodborne did > 41,900 < 57,300 I believe so not really that much better. It was just one platform vs two though. This has me thinking if a bunch of PS4 owners are former 360 owners how many bought the 360 version instead of waiting or not buying it at all? That would be a good statistic to know. I'm actually starting to believe that SE fully expected the low sales.

I think you are slightly overreacting Ribman.

Tomb Raider should have a much bigger mainstream appeal than Bloodborne (Souls), but here we are.

It's quite refreshing to see the PAL sales thread get a few posts in it for a change.

Battlefront sold quite well, no real surprise since although GAF hates it's lack of value but it's just a fun game so seeing how much it drops WoW will be very interesting leading to Christmas.

I think the writing's been on the wall for a while for Microsoft, they won't get exclusivity deals like Tomb Raider any further but Sony managed to keep getting exclusive DLC all through last generation. We've had the volume splits for sales between XB1 and PS4 and they aren't disastrous on XB1 yet so Microsoft still have something to work with.

FIFA aligned with Xbox and achieved the highest launch of the year. Fallout had marketing with Xbox and had the third biggest launch this year. They obviously sold better on PS4 but you act like siding with MS kills your brand/sales.
MS have stated that they are looking at less tomb raider type partnerships and it was stupid of square Enix to launch on the same day as the third biggest selling title this year and between the second and fourth best selling.

I could've been more on board with you if you said that Halo and other exclusives were in trouble and this is where MS need to wake up and start releasing these games away from the biggest sellers of the year but the amount of Xbox games in the top 40 tells you that the Xbox isn't in trouble and while it won't close the gap, it has a place in the UK market.

those deals take into account more countries than US/UK.

PS3 userbase grew faster than 360 worldwide. That's not comparable to the X1 situation.

70K? Keep on trucking. By the end of the month it will have done about 100k easily and from there on out be regarded as a flop by all metrics.

That PC version needs to come out around March/April. I am sure the thirst for an "Uncharted-like experience" on PC is as strong as it was in 13'. Should help overall sales.

Wasn't Ubisoft alluding to decent legs when they addressed sales? It dropped from a cliff W3 on out.... Hec comparatively worse than many of the previous entries. Not to mention it's starting point isn't that great.

GTAV had a marketing deal with Sony with bundles and promotion on both PS3 (2013) and PS4 (2014). With the volume of PS4 sales and the success of the GTAV Remaster I'm sure that the marketing of the next GTA game will be easily in Sony's hands.
With Cod and Destiny on PS for the next years I think thay should try to secure a Battlefield 5 deal, but after Hardline and Battlefront I suppose that EA has chosen Sony too.
Marketing of Titanfall 2, even if multiplatform, should be an Xbox affair, though.

Indeed it has ended,it's not like it's outpacing the previous 2 games already at this rate ;)

Is beating by small margin the worst selling title since CoD became a monster and Ghosts that received next gen versions later.

Black Ops III is far from the best days of the series.

Don't get me wrong it's not among the highs of the series' sales but it's doing very well for itself against the last two juggernauts. I think ghosts is unique in the sense that it had two "launches"

AC's days of being a mega franchise are over.

We can only hope. Now we might not have to endure regurgitated trailers at every single conference of the console maker that Ubisoft partners up next year for the next entry. Give that space to an interesting indie game or something.

It's still far away, but you can add Mass Effect Andromeda.

Not sure there is any deal with Dark Souls III, though. Having a trailer in a conference does not equal a marketing deal.

I wonder how much of a boost got if MK8 and Splatoon just popped up that high?
Probably 4k?

Black Ops III is at 136,500 this week. First week, 3% of total sales was from PS3.
If PS3 sales are still 3%, this mean BO III is at 4,095 unit... but like i said, usually the old gen drop is lower than the current gen drop...
So, if we say PS3 is only 4% of total sales, this could mean 5,460 unit for BO III on PS3, or 6,825 unit if they are 5%.

Mario Kart is 2 position under this. I dunno, i say more like 5k or so.

A great game is a great game, rise of the tomb raider is just that

It's going to release around this time next year. Meaning that there's a high chance that it's going to be released around Gran Turismo Sport, Horizon, FFXV and other unannounced titles as well as yearly stuff like CoD and AC. All of which are going to have huge marketing campaigns and will receive a lot of media coverage. It's unlikely that TR will receive a big marketing push next year and the media has already covered it with the Xbox One release.

The only real chance that it has of doing solid numbers on the PS4 is if Square can release it along with the PC version simultaneously during an earlier part of the year when there aren't many releases. That way they would have reason to market it and the press would likely give it coverage because there wouldn't be anything else to really cover around that time.

sure, but its better than Ghosts, Advanced Warfare and MW3

No one expected it to have the impact Black Op's 1 and 2 had
but it's still return to form

I think you are mistaken about MW3.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (90%)
First week - 1,970,000
Second week (-87%) - 256,100
Third week (-41%) - 151,040
First three weeks - 2,377,140

It's not going to release along side PC as it stands so what's the alternative ? Get it for Xbox? It's a great game as I've said and the realise period situation is similar for it this year too, alongside other high profile titles.

There is no alternative because people aren't going to buy another console for the game. Late ports rarely perform well. And the only late ports that I can think of that did perform well were games in Japan (Tales of Vesperia and Graces).

EDIT: Mario Kart 8 is over Battlefront for PC which is 2% of sales, and this mean Mario Kart 8 is > 6,500 this week... wow, that's amazing!

2% is rounded, and 0.5% rounding has a significant affect on such low splits (+/- 25% in this case).

Lol i know, but with this logic all numbers are with a margin of error, i use the estimate which we have.

In that case, BF for PC is around 6,500, can be bigger or lower like all others games.

Tomb Raider just needed better timing, especially on the PS4. Even people like me who didn't really like the reboot would probably pick it up at a good time period.

But if I have to choose between it and UC4, or UC4 SP DLC or the fall line-up next year? It really doesn't matter to me how good it is at that point.

It's also an Uncharted-alike that didn't release to the primary fans of Uncharted. I get why MS wanted it but their least successful franchises have always been the me too entries whereas their genre kings are all original concepts. They should have moved off that strategy a long time ago imo. I think they kinda did actually. The 360 gen was just hit after hit. MS was a machine.

edit: Other than alan wake.

What has to be frustrating for CD is that it appears that they in part agreed to the timed exclusivity because at the time it was targeted to go head to head with Uncharted 4 at the end of this year. But with U4 being delayed that would've meant that without the exclusivity they would've had a free run at Uncharted's market on the PS4.

I think Tomb Rider will sell fine this Black Friday.
We will know next week.

Is Tomb Raider even going to be on sale for Black Friday? I think it could easily get lost in the older games getting significant price cuts and the new games that are already kicking their booty in sales.

You've got Halo 5, BLOPS III, Fallout 4 and Battlefront all but certain to sell more than Tomb Raider. It also seems likely that the sports games will get a big bump as they usually do this year, so Madden/FIFA/NBA. Then you got stuff like Guitar Hero Live that is getting a huge price cut, games like Bloodborne that are 19.99 for Black Friday, I just don't see how Tomb Raider breaks through with so many other good games with better mindshare are going to be available and cheaper.

I can't find it on sale ANYWHERE! I want to buy it from Best Buy with GCU for like $22

I looked back at Alan Wake on 360 in 2010, with a 4 year install base and it did 36k, perhaps Bruno can correct me. I remember buying the collectors edition on 360 only a few weeks later for less than half price. I couldn't believe the price drop.

Well I like to look at the bright side, so even if the TR IP is hurt really badly after this misstep by S-E, or worse it dies, that could mean S-E will put more focus on Deus Ex or even maybe revisit the Legacy of Kain games and try to prop those up as their western pillars. There's also Thief or Hitman too.
