it's most similar to the Green and Black 85 bar. it's good.

edit. oh shit, forgot to mention. some guy came in today and he was asking me about certain foods because he was on the paleo diet! we showed each other our before/afters, was awesome to see someone else out there eating like this.

Not really paleo, but a nice tribute to fatty foods in the Wall Street Journal. Some of the food descriptions are damn near poetic.

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887323393304578358681822758600.html

But there's another world of fatty foods, a world beyond bacon and barbecue—not the froufrou fatty foods of foodies either, but basic, earthy, luxuriant fatty foods like roast goose, split-shank beef marrow and clotted cream.

...

I'm not suggesting that we embrace these life-changing food experiences just on grounds of pure pleasure (though there's much to be said for pure pleasure). As it turns out, the science on the matter is changing as well. We are discovering that fatty delights can actually be good for you: They allow Spaniards, Italians and Greeks to live longer, and they make us satisfied with eating less. I'm speaking up not for obesity-generating fat, then, but for the kind of fatty food that leads to swooning sensual satiety.

...

You watch: Once my style of luxe fatty eating catches on and people start to see that moderate portions of extreme pleasure don't make them obese, fat will become the new health food.

Going out to eat has become shit since going paleo. You can tell 95% of establishments use shit oil to cook and it disgusts me.

Thats good. Going out to eat is expensive. Much better to eat and home, save money, and cook a healthy, awesome tasting meal

If you're eating out, stick to grilled or baked meats, nothing to worry about. Red Lobster is a good place to go, you can replace any side with their gdlk asparagus

Time to get serious again for me. My "break" is over and I'm still hovering around 189 so no real damage done and hopefully I'm ready to break through. Usually I end up spoiling myself a bit when I need to get on track and be more 'strict" in my adherance.

I've been craving lobster the past couple of weeks. i think I just want to go get some lobster tails and butter, maybe some broccoli and go to town. A nice steak for another night, and go from there.

Sounds good...I'm gonna sear/bake a couple of pork tenderloins so I can eat tonight and throughout the week with broccoli (and quinoa, don't hate me Paleo people!)

Cheating tonight though...got some Ben and Jerry's Cannnoli ice cream I really need to try. lol

Also bought it so my wife can pack on some weight...she has the opposite problem as me and is rail thin and needs to put back on 10-20 pounds. We just had a baby and she is burning through calories like crazy via breast feeding and since I'm the cook of the house she has been eating cleaner along with me and it's caused her to drop too much weight. Yikes.

There's a place in Columbus, Ohio, called North Star Cafe that has the absolute BEST turkey sweet potato hash. The place is effing delicious and has Paleo friendly meals. They cook it in butter. Farm fresh eggs. Everything organic. SO. DAMN. GOOD.

If you're ever in the area, it's worth checking out. They have three locations around Columbus, I believe.

Hey guys I'm looking into this and wonder how strict is this with drinks? I mostly drink tea
and water but I like a cup...or 2 of coffee a day.

I put coconut milk right out of the can in my coffee. Really close to cream and adds a nice flavour, I think. Aroy-D is a good brand because it isn't watered down with.. water and sugar. They also make mini cans that last me just the right amount of time in the fridge.

Tonight I had..purple asparagus with my dinner. Holy shit, it is incredible. I will most definitely be buying more. Luckily it's the same price as green. We also sell white, which is 1 dollar more. The white taste the best eaten raw, haven't cooked it yet though.

bitch I'm taking calls.
I agree that its purpose as a cureall diet, movement or natural remedy/guard against the incidence of disease is overinflated and definitely woo bait. It gave off the impression of a fad at the outset. Most anthropologists and researchers I've read have shown that the most basic premise of the diet (eat like a caveman) doesn't hold up logically based on even the limited evidence we have.

That being said, as Piecake and the author of your linked article point out, there are still specific and secondary benefits to be gained by the applied use of some of the diet's gathered knowledge.

Thanks for the recommendation.

Potatoes not Paleo but it was work out day for me....so....

Picked up some marinated petite shoulder steak...and made a hash of some red potatoes, uncured bacon, and onion, and just a roasted asparagus.

I know you probably know what I mean, but I often find people think I mean coconut 'milk replacement' beverage when I say coconut milk so I feel the need to over-clarify that I use the canned stuff you put in curry. I find milk replacement beverages just make coffee taste watered down.

If I'm caving into my sugar cravings I put either agave nectar, palm (coconut sugar) or maple syrup in my coffee as a treat.

I'm trying to stick to a goal to only have coffee, dark chocolate and fruit as my dessert foods.

I see I'll be ordering the book off Amazon and asking some questions here and there so thank you.

Guys...I really suck at Paleo. I do so well and then I'll screw it up. Like I'll have a sweet once a day or something. How detrimental is this?

I just ate a donut..........

I just know that (from this thread) if I spike my insulin in prevents my body from burning the fat, right? How long does that last for, though, assuming I'm regularly running on fat? One hour? Couple hours? One day? One week?

If I knew how that worked I'd be golden. I could know how badly I'm doing or not lol.

I try to reserve the 80/20 rule for when something may not be 100% Paleo. Like when one ingredient isn't Paleo or something.

People fuck themselves up when overthinking insulin spikes...you're not going to undo weeks of progress by eating a single donut.

I will try not to worry about it too much then......but I would still be curious to the answer if anyone knows.......

Also..........

I just found out rooibos teas come from legumes. My favorite tea. Strike another favorite food gone from my diet.

This shows the insulin response to 50g carbohydrate from different sources (breads & pasta). Time 0 is just before the meal. It takes about 3 hours to return to fasting insulin levels. No need to worry about the odd doughnut.

http://ajcn.nutrition.org/content/75/2/254/F3.expansion.html

Next time, eat that donut with a bunch of protein after a weight lifting session so the increased insulin can carry the proteins to where they need to go, faster.
