Panasonic and Nintendo... next gen again?

I'm sure all the partners will emerge in the coming months leading upto E3...

Play-chan seems to indicate Nintendo is still working with Matsushita/Panasonic on media solutions for their video game hardware (they provided the Gamecube disc drive design, and the "Panasonic Q" machine).

Could Nintendo be working with them again next generation? Backwards compatability (which Iwata said they would like to work towards a while back) - means that they are probably doing a variant of the Gamecube drive - perhaps one which plays normal sized discs too like the Q for example. But do you think that under Iwata, given what Play Chan does, that they may be more willing to release a media convergent machine that plays movies/music as well as games? Maybe they could end up adopting SD media on the next console or some other solution. What do you think?

Motorola's wireless GBA adaptor announcement last year, seemed to be a foreshadowing of NDS capabilities... could PlayChan forshadow GBA2's abilities? Or will similar peripherals be released for NDS/ Revolution?

I'm sure they will, can't think of a more likely alternative. The media route puts Nintendo really between the rock and the hard place, however.

The question really is then what role does Panasonic have with the machine other than just supplying the disc drive, because that really didn't sell any more GameCubes.

Blu-Ray wouldn't be that likely for Revolution, but you never know with Nintendo getting into the movie biz.

Game Boy Next should have PSP or greater level visual capability (GameCube level perhaps with ATi doing the GPU), touchscreen, and MP3/MP4 playback right out of the box.

If they make a media player/game system together, that's fine - really. But so help me God, if it's as garish as the Q...

Its too bad Nintendo didn't dump the N64 and adopted M2 as their console of choice circa 1996 with Panasonic as a partner. That would've been awesome.

I can see Nintendo adopting an SD-ish type of media for the Revolution. The gamecube was supposed to have an SD card reader, but I didn't really see much of that. I really doubt that Nintendo will do a convergence device though. They said they wanted the Revolution to be a revolution and seeing as how Sony has already done a convergence device, Nintendo will want to stay away from that. I think Panasonic is playing a much different role.
