Can someone give me a rundown on vaal orbs and how they work exactly?

Can someone give me a rundown on vaal orbs and how they work exactly?

Vaal orbs randomly modify an item or skill gem. It can either do nothing, improve it, or ruin it. After you use a Vaal Orb on an item, it is "Corrupted" and you can no longer modify it.

If you use it on a skill gem, it can do nothing, give it an additional socket, give it an addition level, subtract a level, subtract a socket, or maybe something else.

If you use it on an item, it can do nothing, give it an additional socket, give it an additional affix, modify an affix, remove an affix, ormaybe something else.

What I said probably isn't 100% accurate, but it's close enough.

"So this build is enabled by a unique, and it's the 1ex unique three dragons which lets you freeze with lightning damage." lol i actually had that drop and it looked interesting. i thought about doing something with it. might be interesting to spec into this.

You can actually probably make any CoF build work if you stack enough +energy. There's a bunch of passive nodes as well as jewels that increase energy but not sure how easy it would be to get all that. No way you'd be able do to without finishing the campaign.

True. It also kinda looks like that build doesn't even need cast on freeze since spark is killing everything anyway.

Seems to me like they've nerfed some of the chaos trials debuffs. Not complaining this shit felt too challenging.

A bit confused about the trials and cruel difficulty. I was in the chaos temple in cruel mode, placed a coin, started the trial but now I'm in normal mode. Wtf.

Help! I'm properly stuck for the first time and after some advice.

I'm fire-based sorceress with ice wall/ice defence and the big guy with lava river has me die in the flow every time - can't kill him quick enough and run out of somewhere to stand. I'm already over-levelled. Do I go for even more levels or do I just need to use this as an opportunity to tune what I have or just respec into something totally different? I spend a good few thousand adjusting my passives, shuffled my supports and tightened everything up where I could to get to this point. Seems no point keep trying as he's consistently 1/6 or 1/5 health left as the lava swallows me and the flasks run out.

That boss is a DPS check, and I guess you can only do 2 things: respec your passives so you focus on damage, and get better gear.

For the later, I recommend checking the shop. If you see nothing good, go to the random shop and pick a few weapons until you get one with potential to do a lot of damage. Use your orbs on it and pray to the RNG gods that you get something good.

That boss is a DPS check. Do you have +skills on your weapon? Do you have "more damage" modifiers on your main DPS spells? Are you using fire penetration and fire exposure? I assume that boss has high fire resistance.

Is there nothing in the guild stash that helps your build? If all else fails I can hop in and kill him for you.

Do you guys think the Level 21-40 Gear Library is too crowded?

Should I split that up into a Level 21-30 and Level 31-40 Library?

I feel like it's fine to have 1-20 being one tab since at low levels, it's not that important, but around the late 20s is when certain gear improvements could make a big difference, and having a bigger selection to chose from would help.

We have some extra coins in the guild bank, and there's a sale, so...

I think I should probably get a couple more quad tabs anyway for future use.

Try to back away from the boss so he gets away from the lava, do as much dps as possible meanwhile. He gets back to the lava, back away and make him come to you, do dps again. When he stand in the lava and sending wave of fire, attack with what range attack you have, also equip fire resist. This was the way i did with my monk.

So with my 300 points and a sale on tabs, what should I spend them on? Bought the currency one, so 240 left.

Personally, I like having a quad tab so that I can dump all my items in it while I'm dungeon running and get back to the action quickly.

It goes like this -

Kill monsters, grab loot, fill up inventory, portal to town, ID items, go to stash, ctrl+click everything in my inventory (items like skill gems, currency, and essence automatically go into their own tabs because I'm using tab affinities), then go back to the dungeon. Takes less than a minute.

I bought a couple more quad tabs, split up the Lv 21-40 tab, and cleaned out some less powerful items. I think I will write a post about how to most effectively use the guild stash depending on your situation.

So I really like the art direction of the later dungeons in Act 3, but man... they are long slogs. I actually liked the Dreadnaught of Act 2 aside from the former lack of checkpoints.

Edit: They also need random events in the zones or more side quests. Give more secondary stuff to do and not just the make it to the end to kill the boss or get to the next zone. I think Act 1 did it okay, could have more.

clarky clarky Could you please copy past the following into the second post of this thread please?

Welcome to the NeoGAF Path of Exile 2 guild! If you would like to join please @ me or Clarky in this thread and tell us what your in game character's name is. All of our resources are available for new players to get a leg up on the game and become successful.

How to effectively use the guild stash for your benefit and also help others:

General Storage tab - Use it for whatever you want.

Skill Gems tab - Use it to store extra skill gems so that other members can use them.

Gear Library tabs - Take what you need and then put it back when you outgrow it, and upgrade. Theoretically, you can complete the entire campaign using mostly items from our Gear Library. This will save you a lot of currency, so that you can save it up to craft you own gear in the late game.

If you have any powerful rare items that you've outgrown, consider donating it to the library.

High roll magic items are also okay. If you want to use a Regal Orb to turn a magic item in the library into a rare item, that is okay too.

These are the most important stats for items in the game, so keep an eye out for -
  • Martial Weapons - Physical attack modifiers and +skills modifiers
  • Spell Caster Weapons - +skills, +spell damage, +fast cast
  • Body Armor - +armor/evade/energy shield, +spirit
  • Helmet - +armor/evade/energy shield, +skills to minions
  • Gloves - +armor/evade/energy shield, +skills
  • Boots - +movement speed

Tier 5+ Magic Items tab - Store magic items that have mods of a value of T5 or higher. High tier mods are rare and valuable. One of the best ways to craft a godly rare item is to start with a high tier magic item, then use a Regal Orb on it. You can see what tier the mods on an item are by holding the alt key while you mouseover the item.

Take from the Tier 5+ Magic Items tab if you want to craft something strong yourself. Keep it, since you are using your own currency on these crafts. If you see a Tier 5+ item in the shop and have enough money, consider buying it to use for yourself or to put in this stash for others to use.

Eventually, as the stash gets fuller, I may restrict the level and Tier level further so that the stash is only full of godlike magic items.

There are a few exceptions to the Tier 5+ restriction as some mods are so rare that any roll of them is good.

These mods are okay even if lower than tier 5:

  • +Spirit on Body Armor
  • At least +2 skills on weapons
  • At least +1 skills on gloves or helmets
  • At least Tier 3 Physical Damage modifiers on weapons
  • At least Tier 3 Armor/Evade/Energy Shield modifiers on armor
  • At least +15% movement speed on boots

Socketed/Superior Magic Items tab - Same concept as the magic tab. Putting sockets or improving the quality of your items is expensive, so an effective crafting method is to start with a base that already has sockets or already is superior. Orbs of Alchemy take any white item and turns it into a rare item. If you see an item base in this tab that you would like to try to turn into a rare, take one from this stash tab.

Lv 45+ Reforging Weapons tab and Lv 45+ Reforging Armor tab - This tab is to put weapons and armor that have weak affixes in them so that we can use the reforging system to reroll those affixes and hope for a stronger item. Using the reforging bench, you can take 3 of the same item, smash them together, and create a new rerolled item. I restricted it to level 45+ because I don't really see much of a need for lower level items, due to all the good stuff we have in the stash libraries already.

What to do: If you have a level 45+ item and don't need to salvage or sell it, stick it in there. If you're looking to reforge a specific item, take from that tab and try your luck!

As always, if you need any help, just ask! It's also okay to ask if you need help killing a boss too.

It would be a good idea, it's pretty crowded I agree

I would rather play this than Diablo 2 100%.

And I love Diablo 2.
And I don’t want to diminish D2. That game was my go to for years.

I just can’t get over how enjoyable this game is to play. It’s so much fun. The combat is polished to perfection. And then, on top of that foundation, you have the loot and general ARPG game mechanics.

This game is going to ruin a lot of degrees!

Am I able to play a whole boss fight with normal gear and then quickly change to magic/rare find gear right before it dies to get better drops? Or does it not work that way?

I have no idea. That seems tedious though. It's one of the reasons that I don't like magic find as a mechanic. I'd prefer they remove it.

Hmm seems plausible to me. You kill the enemy with magic find gear so it should work.
Don't kill me guys but i would prefer a slightly easier game than it is now. I know if i wanna slay monsters i should play Diablo 4 but i didn't really like D4 that much.

What about the rest of my party? If I'm playing with one other person not using magic find gear, what determines if the magic find applies on death? Final hit? Does it average both players magic find?

I think magic find affected gear drops and if you play with an other person he can pick that gear up if you have it set that way.
my 2 cents.

So I killed Balbala in Cruel (what a pain) and she dropped me a level 52 djinn barya that don't reward ascension points...

And I still have the quest.

There's like 16 pages about that bug on the official forums, seems you need level 60+ djinns (with number of trials: 3) to get ascension points, so farming end of act 3...

Interesting observation - When reforging, it doesn't care about the amount of modifiers on the item. I put in an 3 rares with only 3 attributes each and it spit out a rare with 5 attributes.

If you have lots of regal orbs but not enough exalt orbs, this is an option you can try.

The guild stash is awesome. I am putting in only good stuff I find (only lvl 50 though lol) because it also helped me with a new mace.
My DPS still sucks though, I already looked at my sub gems. :'(

I love that we can help each other this way, huge props Rentahamster Rentahamster and clarky clarky was it? :D
Also @ the other contributing chads.
I also find it relaxing to sort a bit if I see shoes next to gloves and vice versa I switch them, lol.

Haha thank you for organizing! 🍻

What skills are you mainly using to fight with? Maybe it's also time for another weapon upgrade? Have you tried crafting yet?

I found another unique for the guild stash.

This would be good gear for a twink warrior to dual wield with that other one hand mace in the stash. Use that plus the "heavy stun breaks armor" support.

Sure, I like organizing.
To answer the question, on my Warbringer I use mostly main mace (lol), get most enemies stunned in 1-2 hits, use the uppercut kinda move to chain explode most mobs.
Otherwise, flames on the ground thingy, sunder, the double slam and big jump slam and obviously my totem with ancestral.

Sorry, don't have all skill names in my head atm, I am almost half asleep it's 2:50 am.

Also only saw today that you can dual wield weapons... but I am using the shield a lot, as well...

And no, I didn't use the crafting table.

I'm using Sunder too. I have the "heavy stun breaks armor" support, so when I stun, I fully break armor, and using sunder on a fully armor broken mob increases its damage and guarantees a critical hit. I also put Upheaval (35% more melee dmg), Supercritical (+100% critical damage bonus), and Upheaval (+2 fissures) on Sunder. Then I use Seismic Cry to empower Sunder with Premeditation.

Heavy Stun -> Seismic Cry -> Sunder = big fkn damage.

How do I do the trials after the first one? I did my first trial and completed it, but it took my trial rune away. Where do I find more trial starter rune?
