Patrick Klepek Joining Giant Bomb as News Editor

Klepek is cool.

I think what could work, from their whole media angle, is have small audio portions where they comment on "confirmed" stories. Just the first thoughts that come into their mind when they find out about something. Unedited to be fast and low overhead.

I personally would probably not listen to it, because daily or for each story would be too frequently for me.

And I get my news from GAF anyway, so as soon as something is on GB it will be here as well.
 
The post about this is honestly pretty exciting. Real gaming related journalism? I'm on board. Hopefully they do consider making video content for it.

GB already has enough awesome personalities, Klepek is a news guy. The news side of GB was worthless before, great move to shore up the site.
 
Patrick's one of the few people who can make an honest claim that they're a game journalist.

Good move for all involved.
 
Patrick was awesome way back when with 1UP and will always have a place in my heart for the paranormal activity thread. GL!
 
I hope he joins the Bombcast but not sure how a 5 man podcast would work so Vinny or better yet Brad would have to go.. And Klepek sure changes jobs a lot, figured after he got a job at MTV he would stay there.
 
I want to wish all the best to Patrick. Such an awesome hire for Giantbomb, dude broke the IW and Activision story. Congrats dude.
 
Congratulations! Like almost everyone else in this thread, I've never really read the news posts on GiantBomb, while I've diligently downloaded the Bombcast and watched the video content. Given your track record, you're in an excellent position to turn that around.

I think that a weekly news video would fit into the rest of the site perfectly; if you post it up on Thursday or Friday, it would also allow the website to cover news that breaks out later in the week in a much more timely fashion (normally I wait until the podcast on Tuesday to get their perspective). What I have no real interest in is reading 5+ text articles a day.
 
I really like his written stuff, but more often than not, I can't stand him on podcasts. I don't know what it is that rubs me the wrong way about him, but there is something.

I hope they keep the regular Bombcast the same, but it's not the worst thing in the world to have another guy on your depth chart to go to in case people are out. I still would rather hear Dave first. He is the best 5th man in Gaming Podcasts!

Totally agreed on all points. Seems like a great writer, but I've never enjoyed him on any podcast (or that Feedback show with Adam Sessler). I doubt they'd mess with the Bombcast formula, though. Or at least I hope they wouldn't.
 
Has he broken anything noteworthy besides the IW thing? That was the only time I've really heard something linked to him.
 
This is great news... although, that said, I almost never read Giantbomb now. Maybe that will change if he breaks another story on the scale of IW vs Activision.

Great addition to Giant Bomb. Most outlets get in the habit of regurgitating the news instead of creating for a unique perspective that people care about. Good on them for realizing they're falling into the same trapping.

Would love to see some original topical pieces instead of the daily gaming "hot wire". Brad covering the Starcraft scene in Korea was a great example of what I'd like to see more of.
 
I feel that brad adds the least to the conversation in the podcasts. Some of his interviews are pretty good but I just don't like his attitude and deliberate enunciation of the 'h' in words like 'what' and 'where'. southern thing, I know. his overall demeanor is tired and boring compared to the charmingly garrulous ways of the others.

Great to see Klepek on board. I'll start reading their articles now.
 
I thought Patrick did a great job when he was doing news on 1up Yours back in 2007, so if anything I'd like to see an addition to the podcast. The news section as it is is cursory at best, and some in-depth discussion would be kinda cool.
 
I hope beyond hope that Patrick joins the Giant Bombcast. He would be an authentic addition. Interestingly, in his original post Jeff said that Patrick might do a daily news so, or something similar.

In any case, this is nothing short of good news. Mazel tov, Patrick.

Brad is mostly chill about most things that probably why I enjoy his views the most, if something excites him you know it. But I don't see why so many people dislike Brad. He seems to be the perfect complement to the outgoing personalities of the other 3.

The idea of a news videos also excite me, I don't mind reading but most of the gaming sites layouts murder my eyes. Although giantbombs layout doesn't bother me, the black and red theme is really nice on the eyes.

Because the dude won't shut up and let anyone else talk, he always has to be talking. IF you remember, he only lasted a few episodes on 1up yours after replacing Luke Smith. I'm afraid Brad and Vinny won't get two words in on the podcast.
 
Interested to see the way GiantBomb use Patrick as an investment in beefing up their news content.

For most of us here we get our news from GAF put Patrick has often gone the extra mile in his news pieces and I'm sure they will be worthwhile reads for us especially who are on here and under a constant barrage of chaff
 
Congrats Patrick looking forward to seeing news now on giantbomb and seeing you in video's hearing you on the podcast (don't mind the haters at all).
Enjoyed your work from the time at 1up all the way to now (4 jobs later :P).
