Patrick Klepek Joining Giant Bomb as News Editor

Awesome. Giant Bomb never had the "scoop" first, or second. Hopefully this will make their news relevant.

Yeah, Giant Bomb were pretty much a day behind the other sites, and the other sites usually copypasted their news off of GAF a day before that, so there really wasn't much point in going there for the news section.

Can't figgure it out - why Giant Bomb is so popular here at neogaf?

They're hilarious and Quick Looks are way better than trailers and small gameplay snippets for showing new games to the public.

Basically, they share our passion for videogames and they present themselves in a casual, likable manner. Listening to the Bombcast is like having a chat with your friends.

However, I have a terrible, TERRIBLE feeling this means Vinny is going to be replaced on the Bombcast so he can focus more on all the video content of Whiskey Media. And since Vinny is one of my favorite personalities in games—and Patrick one of my least—this makes me a scaaaaaared panda.

Shhhh! Don't put these horrible thoughts in my head!

Great news. Giant Bomb was sorely lacking a good news writer and there's not many better than Klepek.

Congrats to both parties.

The Bombcast really needs new life. All these people saying keep the Bombcast as it is are literally out of their mind.

Ryan and Vinny are the only ones that even want to be in the room doing the thing once a week in my opinion. Bring on Klepek.

What? Jeff loves it, he always brings the most energy to the room. It's only Eeyore Brad that ever seems uninterested.

I hoped they'd let him on the podcast, but probably not - he's not 'bro' enough.

I often try to get into that podcast, but come away feeling that I should be wearing a headset or keeping my left hand in a WASD claw. The podcast could really use some slightly conflicting opinions, as right now everyone seems to be on exactly the same page.

Very happy for Patrick and Giant Bomb in general. Can't wait to see Patrick doing embarrassing stuff on the Happy Hour.

They need to get tested to test out straighteners on him. That would be gold. GOLD.

Congrats, Patrick!

Giant Bomb seems like one of the greatest places to work at ever so I can just imagine how happy you feel.

Bring some sick Hot 97 EXCLUUUSIIVES to Giant Bomb.

They should just have Dave on more often. The bombcast could really use more PC love.

Congratulations Patrick.

Here's hoping you can create some form of news on Giant Bomb that is actually relevant/interesting to read.

Personally I wouldn't mind if the majority of the news was just presented as quick 5 minute audio or video clips of initial reactions from the folks in the office.

Awesome! There isn't much better you can do in terms of investigative journalism in gaming than Patrick.

I look forward to some awesome traffic driving SCOOPS.

EDIT: As far as Jeff's questions about coverage of news heading forward on Giant Bomb, the one thing I WOULDN'T like to see is a blitzkrieg of news bombarding the front page and pushing things like videos off into the nether. The rate at which Giant Bomb updates at the moment is probably a little slow, but I enjoy it around that pace, because I don't have time to visit every 4 hours or so. Perhaps a Page 2 kind of story every day or so with wrap-ups of the pertinent news from that particular day in gaming?
My problem with Giantbomb's news coverage isn't the frequency. It's that they never cover games I care for. That's why RockPaperShotgun has become my primary games news site, recently

They need to do one of two things:

A) Put the regular crew of the BombCast on a bi-weekly schedule. Every other week they should mix things up by getting in guys like Patrick, Gary, Alex & Brad in there

B) Make a second podcast that comes out on Friday which has Patrick as host and has regular BombCast crew + Gary, Alex & Brad rotating in the other 3 chairs.

I really like this idea. I loved the behind the scenes Lemon Lens/Kessler Kam videos, back when they had interns. If a few times a week Patrick pulled out a camera and did a ten to tweny minute goofy video with the office focusing on news (with the standard derailments too, of course), that would be great.

You guys have talked about the Bombcast more than we have, bros. Don't freak out.

Two, GB isn't becoming a news aggregator. Someone mentioned Rock Paper Shotgun. Think like that.

Three, I should probably buy some new jorts.

Is this like his 6th job in 3 years?

My sentiments exactly. I like him as a journalist but that's about it. He was "meh" at 1UP, "Okay" at MTV & "okay" at G4 and I didn't even check him out on EGM. I understand that it's not a trait that's not as common as it use to be but I wished more people would try to stick with a company for more than 6 months before jumping ship and hopping on the new, big thing. Klepek is probably making the best moves for himself, which is understandable and since I don't know all the details of his previous jobs (and it's not really my business), I can't make a definite opinion on it. Simply as a person on the outside looking in, it's seems odd for someone to make so many jumps in the industry in such a small period of time. As a fan of Giantbomb and a respecter of Patrick, I hope this move is the best for both parties involved. I don't mind if Patrick is on the Bombcast.

It's 8:30, Klepek. This news isn't going to write itself. We'll see you soon.

Games journalism is a volatile business nowadays.

Hey, at least I'm not a community manager!
No disrespect to my community manager friends.

Jeez, you guys are brutal. As much as I envy the guy for getting what sounds like a decent job with some fun guys, being shit on by the internet doesn't seem all that awesome. Congrats Klepek!
