Patrick Klepek Joining Giant Bomb as News Editor

I am STILL wondering: how do these guys eat? They have no ad on their site, how do they even make money? Just out of curiosity...

It will be a interesting change for me to consider GB for actual new news and not just re-posted news. at this point, I just use their RSS feed to load videos.

The original idea was something about their database being used for other companies, not really sure to be honest.

They do run ads if your not a subscriber. I've got a yearly subscription and am not disappointed with it, love the happy hour and hd videos. Also love just being able to contribute to a website that provides me with so much awesome free content and keep them running.

GB isn't one of my favorites but Patrick seems like an excellent addition to the team. Look forward to hearing him on the bombcast.

They need to do one of two things:

A) Put the regular crew of the BombCast on a bi-weekly schedule. Every other week they should mix things up by getting in guys like Patrick, Gary, Alex & Brad in there

B) Make a second podcast that comes out on Friday which has Patrick as host and has regular BombCast crew + Gary, Alex & Brad rotating in the other 3 chairs.

Both ideas are terrible.

No diss on Patrick, but I don't want him on the podcast any more often than Dave Drew is on.
The main 4 just work too well to change the formula.

You know those mailbag videos where people send them candy?
Those are actually their meal times.

I still remember a teenage Klepek fucking up 1up Yours for awhile. Now he's like the pre-eminent games "journalist", at least in terms of scoops. Not only that but the dude has become a great personality as well.

Smart pickup.

I enjoyed your work in The Burbs, Mr. Klopek. What was it like working with Tom Hanks?

If Patrick Klepek is such a great news reporter why didn't he break this story?

I have felt that the news section of GiantBomb could use some kind of kick and Klepek seems like the guy to do it.

They should just have Dave on more often. The bombcast could really use more PC love.
I second this. Plus Dave's stories are hilarious. And I love hearing about the back end of the site and what tools they use.

I guess the people who don't want anything other than the main Bombcast crew on every podcast giant bomb puts out weren't around listening to the hotspot or 1up yours about 4-5 years ago. I felt those podcasts benefitted big time from having a couple of regulars and a couple of rotating chairs. It kept everything really fresh because you had different types of gamers on who had different interests and the podcasts wouldn't always break down into the formulaic watcha been playing-news thats been reported on by everyone-mailbag sequence. You'd get people talking about off the wall things. In fact that is how the Bombcast was in the early days as well.

The Bombcast also isn't just JeffRyanBradVinny all the time. They very often have one guy out of the office and replaced by a special guest, or an Alex, or a Dave, or a Drew.

His sister Karen is even cooler, if that's possible.

I think Patrick would be great as a Bombcast bench player. It should still remain a four man game though, and the starting lineup is what it is. Hope he makes an appearance tomorrow to welcome him aboard.

I agree with this. Bombcast has been feeling a bit formulaic lately.

Hopefully he makes his debut tonight on the number 1 whiskey media podcast

The Nintendownload Express
Choo Choo

Oh so he changed the name to reflect the fact that the X button isn't being pressed in his logo? :p

I cant believe some people want to hear more of Dave...nasal voice Dave. I don't discriminate but people like Dave should not be anywhere near a podcast. He is interesting but thank goodness he is only on when 2 of the others don't show up.

I believe they're talking about the most popular video games podcast from the whiskey media network, not the bombcast.

Bombcast is tomorrow at around 6pm western. But Jeff puts out his own, superior podcast tonight at around 8-10 pm. It's really quite informative.

I have no problems with his voice.

Nope. The only thing you need to subscribe to see is the Happy Hour live show on Fridays (and I guess the Thursday Night Throwdown archive on the actual site, but that's not essential since they're all up on justin.tv), and they do a free one every month.

The train's running a little late tonight. Check back later.

EDIT: I see the conductor is busy finishing his MK review, which he's going to post around midnight. Hopefully he goes full steam ahead with NDX afterwards. He should be alright if he just throws some more coal in in the engine.
