Congrats on both Patrick and Giant Bomb!
I am surprised about all the reservations about having Patrick on the podcast, but I guess when I think about it, the current team is a good balanced match right now and the Giant Bombcast is definitely one of the more laid-back podcasts currently out there in terms of signal to noise ratio. And while I always like more signal, I can definitely respect that many listeners also really appreciate the noise (personally I always wish for an autoskip function in my podcast player that skips ahead each time food or drink are discussed, but thankfully that hasn't been so bad lately and I know its a personal thing). That said, I think if you give him time to adjust to the rhythm, he should be fine. For now, perhaps he can fill in on those many occasions where half the crew is on tour, and/or just drop in for a news section.
As for the news, yeah, much more so than its podcast, Giant Bomb has so far been extremely laid-back in terms of content, imho, and there is no question that most of its value comes from the video. So personally I would expect Patrick's role to be to bring news and background features mostly in that form as well. If he would do daily or at least regular summaries of the news that actually matters with some half-decent journalistic backgrounding in a proper TV news style affair with a whiff of whimsy but serious reporting when appropriate, I would become a very faithful and grateful viewer (an audio only feed would be cool as well, as I always have more time to listen than to watch, hence my consumption of just about every gaming podcast that matters). As it is now, I rarely come to the giant bomb website - only for rare cases when there is a quick-look I am interested in, and then to post complaints if I'm really upset about them (like for The Fight: Lights Out

), partly just because the content is otherwise really thin and the site has so far been next to useless when it comes to news.
So this could be great - wish you all the best everyone, and Patrick, I pretty much got my current job the same way: I wanted a job close to my now wife and mother of my children and this was pretty much the first job since I started working that I applied for after just picking out the most suitable company in that area.
