I think Jeff is semi-secretly way more thoughtful about this stuff than you normally see on the podcast and in videos. It's just that for whatever reason, he either thinks people don't come to him to hear about the more intelligent stuff, or that it's simply more interesting/a better return on investment to keep things lighter.

I connect with him because I think he's as jaded as I am. He's probably had the thoughtful, intelligent conversations so many times in the past that they've all become stale so he said, "fuck it, I don't want to discuss the same finer points and philosophies of x/y/z/ anymore, I'm just going to fling low-brow humor out ant shit on stuff". It works half the time IMO.

I wish best of luck to Patrick Klepek. I caught him on G4 and his path blossomed along the way. I guess at that certain age you aren't totally following a journalist unless you catch them in the media spotlight when they first begin or they're older than you are and their foot has already been in the work force.

There's a lot to say that's already been said before. A change can show that nothing lasts forever, but you can still enjoy what you already have. You make the best out of what's given to you. With that being said. Good Luck and I'm sure the eyes of fans everywhere will watch your every move.

I had a similar upbringing and I also lost my father around that time. I related to him because it hurt quite a bit when he died. I also took to what people were saying, so it helped by reading his views and comments.

Haha. I'm not going to Nintendo, and I'm not becoming a community manager. :)

I'm also OK saying I'm not going independent and opening up a Patreon, either.

I did want to stop by and say hi, though. NeoGAF was one of my first homes--people forget I was a moderator way, way, way back in the pre-NEO days. You've treated me very well during my tenure at Giant Bomb, even when we haven't seen eye-to-eye. Thanks for that.

Good luck in whatever you will be doing!

Feels like you just joined the site. Gonna miss you, man. Internet First bump to one of the best GB guys.

Huh? I wouldn't call myself a "fan," but anyway isn't the Giant Bomb shtick that they're uninteresting? They're chubby white guys that eat snack food and drink a lot and like wrestling and other dude stuff Just Like You, except that have a well run site and loads of industry connections? I didn't say they were shitty, just that Patrick was a unique voice in that group.

So in your attempt to prove you weren't being condescending you doubled down on it, impressive stuff.

Well this is a shame. I hope GiantBomb doesn't go the way of Revision3. It's like the only gaming news site that doesn't suck anymore. I really liked his Spelunky series. Glad he got one last episode in to send it off when the PS4 version came out. I'll miss his afro. Good luck, Scoops!

Loved everything you did for Giant Bomb Patrick! You will be greatly missed and best of luck to whatever it is you're going to jump in next. I'll be sure to follow and pay attention to it that's for sure.

My favourite member of Giant Bomb, godspeed to wherever he ends up and hope the editorial strength stays alive.

Over the years, I had made quite a few GIFs of him so here's a compilation:

I'll miss Patrick's contributions to Giant Bomb, especially his love for the obscure, the bizarre, or the horrific. His unique perspective will be tough to fill, especially in regards to smaller indie titles.

Good luck in whatever you pursue, Patrick.

Also sad to see Patrick leaving the site. Some of my favorite GB moments have come from him, and he is one of the GBers with whom I share most opinions and likes/dislikes. At the same time though, I do feel as though he had been getting sidelined lately, and if he felt he was becoming stuck or could go on to make bigger things elsewhere, then I'm all for that.

Damn. Best of luck to Patrick. I didn't follow all of his content but it was nice having someone with his willingness to try all the games he did.

Seems I missed The Bomba Gigante site launch.

Some of the fanart I've made of Mr K during his time at Giant Bomb. It's too difficult to track down all the gifs since those are thrown to the wind but I think the ones that are emotes in chat will live on.

Loved having him around, looking forward to seeing what he does in the future <>

Wow. He's a lot of why I enjoy GB. a lot of deep discourse of gaming as a relative and growing medium socially and more are what he's great at.

Curious where he moves to.

Much love and luck to him and his plans.

Reading his edtorial, I have to call out this:

If I recall correctly, while drinking with Ryan and Jeff, I said something like "I don't want to interview Ken Levine, I want to interview the person right under Ken Levine. They have the better stories."

What a great way of looking at it, and I've always wanted more stuff like this. This is one of the reasons I really loved Iwata Asks. Sure, it was sanitized as fuck, but at least you heard from a bunch of different people who worked on a project rather than just the creative lead.

Boooooo! I really liked Bombin' in the AM as they were fantastic bookends to the work week.

Good luck on whatever you do next Patrick!

Patrick, you always reviewed games I loved poorly with deeply flawed arguments. But I always appreciated that you were at Giant Bomb. Godspeed sir.

Good luck at Iron Galaxy. ;)

Awh man. I never would have guessed those 'Patrick's leaving!' nonsense posts in the Giant Bomb OT would become true.

Well... fuck. =(

Best of luck Scoops!

I don't religiously watch Giant Bomb's stuff, but Patrick was always my favorite as his tastes are closest to mine. The rest of the cast is mostly pessimistic about many games, and that has really shown through to me in some of their choices in the Game of the Year series. Not sure if I will continue listening after he leaves.

The end of an era, the last positive person in that group is gone.

That's not true. It's not as bad as Rev3 when Adam Sessler left. Giant Bomb has a lot of great talent. I'm not trying to offend everyone, but the community should stay strong. Stronger than it ever was.

dont know if this has already been brought up, but whenever i watched any of his videos on GB they would always get thumbs down and all i saw was a tidal wave of hate towards him in the comments.

Always wondered why that was.

One of the best.

Shame he won't be part of pretty much the only gaming website I follow anymore, but best of luck wherever he'll go. I think it must've been one hell of an offer to make him move on from this sweet gig!

i liked him

didn't understand why all the youtube comments would constantly bash him

Whatever the opposite of youtube comments is is usually the sensible opinion.

Patrick was one of my favourites, he always sounded like the smartest guy in the room, and the other guys on the podcast always got quiet when he was about to speak. He championed games that the rest of the guys tended to overlook. He was one of the few people in games media who got it right on ZombiU, for instance, and explained Monster Hunter in a cogent way that I hadn't heard from anybody else. And he had a big role in being a voice for indies before that was cool.

If he's doing something else in media, I'll definitely follow him.

Wha?! D:

God damn, I don't have much reason to visit giant bomb now tbh :/

Love the guy's work and best of luck to him on whatever he does next.

Patrick is one of my favourite reporters and to see him leave my favourite gaming website is a bummer, but I'll follow his work where ever he goes.

I hope GB continues to grow, too. Would love if they could export their particular brand of insanity into another territory one day...!

You'll be missed. Always enjoyed your perspective on trying to do something different than what everyone else was doing, not just to be different, but because the obvious things had already been covered ad nauseum.

That bit about your dad, and then what happened exactly one year later with Ryan choked me up a little bit. I mean, I was choked up when Ryan passed and I didn't even know him personally, even though having watched him during the Gamespot days and then at Giant Bomb from the time he and Jeff were looking for studio space to the present, I felt like I did.

Edit: just finished the writeup and saw you're not leaving editorial. That's a positive. Good luck.

This definitely explains the hiring calls they quietly put out, but this is a pretty big loss. Patrick gave Giant Bomb a wider voice and helped connect the site to a lot of people who weren't just the old gang of Jeff's industry pals (who are all great, but Patrick helped bring in more and more indie folks and tried out a lot of different stuff that the rest of the duders would just write off without trying).

I think Alex does a good deal of this, though; he has similar sensibilities to Patrick, but he wears his heart on his sleeve a lot more. Alex also plays a lot of games. I think this was always true, but now we get more access to him.

Posting it in as many places as I can - loved the dude - loved his work - will miss his content on Giant Bomb SO much. Will follow his career. Love that he posted in here about the future. No idea about him being a mod for GAF back in the day. He's a great man. Peace out duder. <>

So he's going to work with Cards Against Humanity?

Makes sense, right?

Man, that sucks. Wish Patrick had seen through the next couple of years, to see where Giantbomb is. Seems a crappy time to leave.

Thanks for the hours and hours of great entertainment Scoops, you really got me interested in a bunch of games I would have skipped over and seem like an awesome dude all around. Best of luck in your future endeavors!

I don't know if this is true, is it? Games like Danganronpa, Zero Escape, Fire Emblem, Monster Hunter... are these really the kind of games that you'd see Alex trying out? His tastes seem more in line with everyone else's at Giant Bomb, while I will agree with the sentiment that Patrick tried out stuff that one wouldn't expect from the others.

I guess Alex plays a bunch of sports games that the others don't.

I hope wherever Patrick goes he continues to do the news because he's the closest the industry has to an on-camera investigative reporter.
