Ah PAX, can't wait. Only 4 days away :D
Going to hit up the Sam Adams Brewery on Saturday morning. Free beer, here I come.

There's going to be a PAX East, Monday Night Combat, PC tournament on Sunday, if someone wants to help me fill out the rest of my team roster, PM me.

This. I still have my PCGamer from 1997 with DNF on the cover. Let a new era of Duke reign!

Anyone else staying at the Nine Zero hotel?

Everyone should get the Conventionist app on their smartphones. I just tried it and its pretty cool. Just do it. PAX East is on there.
Hey thanks. A couple of friends and I made the app, and we have been working really hard with the PAX team to make this con's guide awesome. Anything you guys think is missing? On the roadmap we have multiple (alternate) schedules, custom schedule items, session commenting, and interactive maps (icons on the maps will show where exhibitors are, etc).

Appreciate the feedback!

Awesome! Great job! A friend of mine said that it would be cool to add some kind of GPS tracking so you could be alerted when something close to you is going on (for instance, if a company had a special drawing for prizes when you happen to be close by), but I imagine the accuracy of GPS when you're in a closed building would be an issue.

I think the app is fine so far! Is there a way for show organizers to push alerts to the app, or is that just handled (hopefully) with the twitter integration?

Indeed it is awesome, thanks for the great work!

Does the "My Schedule" feature do a ringtone alert when an event is about to start? If not, that would be a handy feature. Maybe make the alert able to go off 15 minutes before any favorited event starts.

For most events, if you aren't already in line more than 15 minutes before it starts, you probably aren't getting in.

GPS is ATM too poor to really do much accurately within a building, but yes, we would love to add that kind of functionality once its possible.

As for pushing alerts, no, we don't want attendees to be inundated with alerts from con managers, so thats not possible. They can send out tweets, and we will probably include a news module in the near future - but it will always be unobtrusive.

In regards to the My Schedule question - yes, when you choose to add an event to you schedule your are prompted to set an alert if desired for a certain amount of time prior to the event. The alert is basically like getting a text message (uses the same sound, etc).

Ah, okay cool. Although as creid pointed out I'd probably have to set it for much more than 15 minutes!

What about a way for the Schedule to reflect how many people are planning to attend each event? Maybe put in something where your planned schedule is transmitted to the servers, so for example the Schedule could say "3,117 Conventionist users are planning to attend the Omegathon Final Round."

That idea is something that has been kicked around our office for a bit now. Basically a way to gauge relative popularity of events. Right now we have "likes", but we want to make it a more social experience. I think we will add # of attendees as a stat somewhere in the app around the same time that we add live commenting. The problem, as always, is balancing these features against the issue of connectivity within convention halls - many of these features will struggle without a connection. But thanks for the suggestion!

I'm really hoping it's better at the new venue, because you seriously had to be in line like an hour early for the popular panels. I set all of my Conventionist notifications for an hour, and will revise them up or down based on hall size and crowds later.

Also, Conventionist Rocks!!

Can't wait for this! This will be my first PAX, really looking forward to checking out all the booths. Admittedly, I'm mostly drawn by the Protomen, they haven't been is Massachusetts in a long while.

Consumers to Get an Early Look at Nintendo 3DS at PAX East

Visitors to this year’s PAX East event will get more than just a glimpse into Nintendo’s all-star lineup of console and hand-held video games. Running March 11-13 in Boston, the festival also marks an opportunity for U.S. consumers to experience the new Nintendo 3DS™ portable system in advance of its March 27 launch. Featuring 3D visuals that don’t require special glasses, built-in applications and software, and distinctive wireless features like StreetPass™ and SpotPass™, Nintendo 3DS offers veteran and first-time gamers a remarkable new way to play.

In addition to the fun of included Nintendo 3DS software such as Mii Maker™ and AR Games™, PAX East attendees can get a firsthand look at upcoming first- and third-party games for the system. Interactive demo stations will give players a chance to try Nintendo’s Steel Diver™, Kid Icarus™: Uprising, Pilotwings Resort™, nintendogs™ + cats and The Legend of Zelda™: Ocarina of Time™ 3D. They can also check out LucasArts’ LEGO® Star Wars® III: The Clone Wars™, TECMO KOEI’s DEAD OR ALIVE® Dimensions, and CAPCOM’s Super Street Fighter® IV 3D Edition and Resident Evil®: The Mercenaries 3D.

Nintendo’s PAX East booth (#412) will also give fans a chance to experience the latest installments in two of the world’s favorite game franchises. The new Pokémon™ Black Version and Pokémon White Version games for the Nintendo DS™ family of systems offer new battle modes, a new region to explore and more than 150 new Pokémon to catch, battle and trade. Meanwhile, Mario™ Sports Mix for the Wii™ system injects four different sports – volleyball, basketball, dodgeball and hockey – with a dose of Mushroom Kingdom fun, adding wild power-ups and letting players put their customized Mii characters at the center of the action.

Remember that Wii and Nintendo 3DS feature parental controls that let adults manage the content their children can access. For more information about Nintendo, visit http://www.nintendo.com.

From that description, sounds like they've lifted their GDC booth wholesale.

IIRC: 4 Steel Diver, 4 Kid Icarus, 4 OOT, 2 Nintendogs, 2 Pilotwings, 2 Lego Starwars, 2 DOA, 4 SSF4, 2 RE, and a few more straggler 3DSs for the movie playback and the AR games.

Oh yeah the AR games. I'm almost most excited about those.

Same here. Nintendo's booth could very well convince me to buy a 3DS, despite me skipping the DS generation entirely.

How the hell did you do that? So many great games.

Also, if you're one of those weird PSP only people expect sadness at PAX, I didn't see a single person with one the whole weekend, but DS' were in almost everyone's hands.

I had my PSP last year running Dissidia, and I tagged a couple of people. DS was definitely more popular though. Still kind of surprised there doesn't seem to be any Monster Hunter meetup.

I had a ton of GBA games, but when the DS came out I was just graduating high school and becoming a poor college student. I was more into console games (Halo) and couldn't afford both.

I've never really gotten back into handhelds since then, aside from the rare game of Angry Birds when I'm stranded somewhere with my phone.

But the 3DS? If it's as impressive at PAX as I'm hoping, I'll probably have to get one. Now that I have a big boy job and can afford it.

I do wish that I had a DS to play with everyone in the PAX lines though...

You've probably already heard this, but I'd love to be able to edit to-do entries, maybe with a long touch. If there is already a way to do this, let me know, I could just be stupid :p

Nope, currently not possible - but yes, we've heard it! :)

We're working on implementing that.

None of you know who I am but I'll be at PAX. I'm working a booth for MapHook for my internship. Stop by and say "Hey". I'm blonde and of the fairer sex. Also, I'm riding solo for this convention, so if anyone want's to do anything at night, let me know. Though I'm under 21. Kinda nervous about going alone and stuff.

Probably taking advantage of the early in by media people on Saturday to play the 3DS if lines aren't terrible when I get there Friday. 3DS and Duke are top priorities.

I'm surprised at that too, but I think people who are looking for that may organize their own meetup on the PAX forum.

I've had my eye on the forum and haven't seen anything, either year.

I'll probably be looking for something to do later. Last year I wandered around kind of aimlessly and played a game or two. The friends I go with can be quite the mundane type.

If by any chance your are "Zep" then please leave your broken glass bottles at home.

I heard there was supposed to be a Deus Ex Human Revolution live demonstration event at PAX EAST. Any word if that's true or not?

We'll have to actually meet up this year. Are you going to the Bruins/Sabres game?

I don't really play MH, though - never quite got the hang of it. I figured I could learn from some regulars if they got together, but I'm not gonna call them all together just to teach me ;)
