Payday 2 |OT| See you at the safe house.

So if I liked the first game, I'll like this...right?
Mostly yes. There are plenty of missions that can be done in total stealth. Every gun can be customized, but you have to "win" those customization parts first. Money now act's as currency to buy weapon mods, spend skill points, buy masks; no longer does it add to your exp pool. Each class you can be is much more specific in their roles, and can have a larger effect on gameplay.

Now, the maps themselves are designed ok, but I am not too keen on the type of heists that are being pulled. PD1 had some epic heists, with massive payouts. PD2 has the potential for those, but the missions are pretty tame in comparison. Though, there are multiday heists, and some that you can fail that cause a seperate chain of events. These get you bank.

It's a ton of fun overall. I like it, though I like certain things about PD1 better.

Good to see that fundamentals like a robust server filter system are slowly making their way into this game. Better late than never.

pretty much, yes

it has shorter legs, at least for me, tho

Shorter for me also, at level 40-50 the heists were already getting old and monotonous for me. I'm level 74 now with $20,000,000 or more instant cash and just feel bored, but I've took a break because of that. I will probably at least try to grind to 100 to finish out the platinum until they release some DLC.

I have to say, the heists in the first Payday were much more bold and outgoing. I guess that is one way to put it. You felt like a big time criminal, not some petty thief robbing a small town bank, doing a smash and grab on a jewelry store, or transporting drugs. They were more thought out and held so many secrets and easter eggs throughout the maps. Some of which you were still discovering well after reaching level 100.

Baby steps.

- How about actually saving my filter settings instead of resetting them
- How about fixing the constant "connection lost to host" or "failed to join server" error messages
- How about a checkbox-style filter that let you select multiple mission to search for
- How about not showing me new contracts that clearly do not meet my search critieria

I almost wish this game started out as early access. Then by the time I got around to buying it, the incredibly basic stuff like this would have been sorted out already.

I almost forgot:
- unfinished Safe House (didn't they say it was suppose to change depending on how much money you had, and maybe not look like a run down shack?)
- the Spook special unit hasn't been added to the game yet
- Offline mode bots are nigh useless (and why do I only get 2 of them instead of 3)

One could argue it's an early access already, in everything but name.

Yeah that's kinda how Payday 1 was like as well, they did some serious work to it to improve after launch. I just kinda think it's strange some of this is such a regression from PD:TH. Overkill will probably have the kinks worked out eventually, but this does feel like it could have waited and been on Early Access.

Remember back in the beta when people whined about not getting enough money from jobs? And now we're all sitting on 1mil instant cash in the bank with nothing of value to spend it on. Knew this was gonna happen..

This is my list

  • Add Safehouse customization
  • Add those splinter cell dudes from the first game
  • We should be able to select what difficulty we want and what heist we want whenever we want like Payday 1
  • Game needs a Anti-Alising option
  • A.I teammates are braindead and need to be smartened up
  • FOV slider needs to display the degree of FOV. Full FOV bar doesn't tell me if its 45 degrees or 120 .
  • Game should have the video colour gradients from Payday 1 (eg. Dinero, Payday+, Bhd)
  • Need the ability to draw on maps in the planning phase to plan heists in more detail
  • Steam overlay needs to be fixed, sometimes it works other times it doesn't (on both my PCs). Friends have this issue aswell.
  • Owners of Payday 1 should get a special mask.
  • Allow team members to buy assets but have to be approved by the game leader
  • Game should have challenges like from Payday 1 that give out rewards. Maybe add daily, weekly, month challenges aswell.
  • Would be cool if the game had a optional Halo 'Skull'/L4D Mutator system where you add modifiers to make the game even difficult for mixing heists up.
  • There should be a full stealth/no alert bonus for Heist
  • Game needs a chat wheel to do simple voice commands like L4D but Payday style (eg. 'Move', 'go', 'pick up x item', 'move quietly', 'guard', 'camera' etc)
  • Split screen multiplayer on 1 computer.
  • LAN support

This isn't counting all the bugs and glitches. I feel the game needed to be launched in January or Feb or stayed in beta longer, its way to early of a release.

yup, I think early access is a good way to channel good will and release something in a bit of a rough state, but it wouldn't really work for multi-platform games like pd2, which speaks a lot how shitty shipping for consoles really is in comparison

the other thing is that I would've been perfectly fine to wait for a couple months and just buy the full release and not feel sort of ripped off. I say sort of because it's not really that bad, but it's still weird.

It's always been in the back of my mind, it seems like they rushed it to get it out ahead of GTA V, seeing as how it's going to have it's own heists you can do. Maybe it influenced them, maybe it didn't, but it's awfully suspicious to me. From the looks of it, the heists in GTA V may end up being better than the ones in this, a game solely based on heists. Sure it doesn't have to worry about competing with it on PC, yet, but still.

I don't think it'd matter much, since it's multiplayer vs singleplayer, though releasing at the same time as gta is suicide no matter the genre.

I think it may've been a publisher thing

GTA is not going to compete with Payday in terms of heists.

I haven't been following GTA V (in modern gaming media, the 75% of the game gets spoiled before it even releases so the games I care about, I ignore) but if open world games are an example, it'll be some linear heist.

A game primarily focused on heists, which actually does it well, is not going to get beat out by a game where heists are maybe a secondary or tertiary focus.

Most of the complaints about Payday 2 have nothing to do with the actual gameplay or missions.

True

I just hope the DLC that Overkill releases in the future will include some more dynamic heists/maps to bring everyone back that stops playing.

I think payday 3 should be f2p with new heists every month

buy customization for masks and guns and exp/money boosts

the rest you can buy with ingame money

uh no

Payday 2 is like the only game in the world that isn't doing stupid fucking microtransactions.

I'd rather it keep it that way.

f2p can be done right, and it'd make the game have a constant stream of content + be free (except for cosmetics)

the game already has f2p-like random drops, anyways

Changelog for update 11:

  • Expert Driver Asset - This will make sure that you won't trigger an escape level (requires the Inside Man skill in the Mastermind Tree)
  • Kick enabled/disabled option added to game settings and Crime.net filter
  • Players can now throw heavy bags into helicopters

EDIT: Also, it seems the Heist filter has now disappeared. *slow clap*

My Inside Man skill will finally be useful, in another 3 or 4 months on console lol.

David Goldfarb commented that the next PS3/360 patch is going to contain everything in the first 10 PC patches on Twitter. Almir also responded to one of my forum posts saying they were including as many changes as possible from the PC patches. God only knows when it will be ready and how big the download is going to be if the first one was a "small patch" at 2GB.

Really? Dominator and Smooth Talker have always been vital for successful stealth runs.

Irrelevant is an exaggeration on my part, but it's a class that, I feel, needs the most improvement. Those abilities are the best it has to offer and can be unlocked early on.

A mastermind/ghost hybrid is much more preferable, I'd say.

That's precisely what I went for (with the melee and bag hiking boosts from Enforcer)! XD

Personally, I don't think specialising in any one class is a particularly efficient use of points; however, the upper MM stuff is pretty neat. Joker is extremely useful for firefight missions like Rats and Watchdogs, as are the several boosts to intimidation for stealth missions (can't remember the exact perks. At least one is a tier bonus).

Looks like they are going to nerf the shotguns range down to 20m from 40m. Maybe I'll see less lobbies of 3 full specced enforcers with a reinfield/mosconi primary and locomotive secondary then. I'm usually the only non-enforcer build not using shotguns in the entire lobby half the time I play with randoms it seems. Somethings wrong when people only want to use 1 or 2 specific weapons.

David Goldfarb ‏@locust9

The numbers don't lie: shotguns are IMBA AS FUCK.

David Goldfarb ‏@locust9

@sixdemon 20m now. Down from 40m.

this kinda sucks because I really enjoy when a shooter does long range shotguns and the reinfield just felt beautiful

I think the joker skill is fun though unessential; the AI being awful as it is. I would love to use it more if it weren't so expensive! Anyway, other than the melee skill, we have a similar build. Bag hiking is way too useful an ability to ignore and we get it on the first set of enforcer. :D

As much as I love those shotguns, I agree with the decision. I can take out snipers and kill the majority of enemy types in one round making ammo not an issue. The fantastic versatility and power has made me stick to no other weapon type since day one.

I've only been in one team where anyone has tried stealth, everyone else goes in just guns blazing and getting alerts. Am I missing as much of the fun as I think I am?

Enforcer have bonus on the shotguns, of course they use it.

Play it with your friends so you can plan the heist. That's the way to go.

Playing it stealthily is really difficult and there are oh so many things that can go wrong, but when you pull it off it is definitely worth it. The huge problem I have with it though is that you need to have certain perks to successfully do it.

Every class uses it regardless, why wouldn't you when you can even shoot the snipers off of the rooftops with it? The Reinfield in Payday The Heist was great at close range but you couldn't shoot nearly as far with it. It seems to me that FPS games always have trouble balancing shotguns, from the range they can shoot to the damage each pellet does, to the spread. It all comes down to the realism or balance debate in the end.

Shotgun Enforcer seem to be really popular in Watchdogs. I don't see it nearly as much in Firestarter and Rats. Mosconi, in particular, is less useful on those maps because there tends to be a larger mix of unarmored enemies + balaclava undercover HRT + green FBI, and not just tan FBI + specials, so M-16 and M-14 seem to be more popular.

M14(M308) is the best primary in the game in my opinion, if you are a good shot and can make use of the limited ammo. It's nice being able to one shot heavies and tasers in the head before they even get close. Then again I've seen people use it while shooting wildly that waste tons of ammo.

It's fun mixing it with that bottom perk in Enforcer that gives you 5-10 seconds of unlimited ammo after dropping an ammo bag ^_^ M308 MG anyone?

The clip size on it is ridiculous as well, if you have the top tier Technician skill.

I actually liked the Mosconi + Bronco or Loco a lot when I was around level 50-60 and full Enforcer. But at level 100, I feel like I vastly prefer M14 + Deagle (both fully upgraded with +damage and +accuracy mods), along with the technicians's Mag Plus skill Aced. The Deagle's entire ammo capacity is in a single clip, so no need for reloading until you visit an ammo bag. Plus, Bulletproof+Die Hard, both aced, seem just as viable as the Enforcer armor for survivability.

I've been playing this game a lot recently. I really like it. I normally play w/ a friend and two randoms on xbox. I have just a few quick thoughts. It seems everyone is confused by non-specials who have cuffed themselves. I'll take the time to talk them down, then a teammate seems to shot them later. It drives me crazy. The spawning is bad too. Cops just appear out of nowhere, sometimes behind you.

Funny story, last night we were doing a bank job. Everyone on the team was in casing mode. Some random player joined us, ran into the front of the bank and shot the civilians and quit. The mission was much harder than it had to be, we didn't have a prep work done yet.

Especially annoying when they shoot them without a suppressor. People also freak when they see the exclamation mark, too, even if you have the situation under control.
