People around the world are asked what they think of America (video)

Yup. Just like how Germans are rigid, humorless, fascists who like to poop on each other and only listen to Rammstein and David Hasselhoff.

And? Do you have a problem with our way of life? Poop and let poop, that's what I say.

I am a German and I love America. Your Republicans are bat shit crazy, but I thoroughly enjoy every visit. Incredible nature and nice people. I also like the American optimism. Maybe I'll move there for work in a few months. Not very likely, but possible.

Sorry to take away from the humor in this thread, but from a political perspective, this is what the US as a society appear to me and I'm sorry if people are going to be offended:

I'm+liberating+you+sir.jpg

couple that with

crazy gun laws,
climate change deniers,
capitalism run amok,
rampant consumerism & commercialism,
no healthcare,
high exploitation of natural resources
pollution
hating their poor,
fast food
Vietnam
Iraq
Afghanistan
white supremacy,
genocide of native americans,
slavery,
housing laws
neo-colonialism
Guantamo
severe hypocrism of ideals (freedom, justice, liberty, etc.)
Supporting Israel
Drone strikes
no due process for non-Americans
Celebrating violence and murder (see public reaction to the killing of bin Laden)
Staging coups in Iran, Indonesia, Cuba, DRC, Chile, Afghanistan, Nicaragua
Marshall plan impeding democracy,
Shitty network TV with billions of commercials,
Militarized police force
Air conditioners for everyone, everywhere
Cars for everyone
Shitty infrastructure
Inherent aversion to socialism
fucked up two-party political system
Christian right-winged nuts
Boot straps rhetoric
The American Dream is childishly naive
Supporting Saudia Arabia
Spending an insane amount of money on their military
Fighting against the right to abortion
NSA and surveilling everyone

Yet a lot of US people can't understand why people are not fans of their society and what it represents.

Mostly the people I know and the family members from there are all incredibly nice and great human beings. But their society and the different structures in it is completely messed up and have done some atrocious things then and now.

BMWs and Audis are for douchebags but Germany has a lot of stuff going for it. Now lets hold hands and eat some schnitzel, bro.

We'll just take the following back if you're not feeling us:

Rock
Rap
Blues
R&B
Techno
House
Electricity
Computers
Videogames
Cars
Planes
Internet
Neogaf
Windows
OS X
Every website ever
Every movie ever
Marvel comics
DC comics
Your favorite TV shows
etc etc etc
I think you need to do your research.

Or is this a subtle self-burn? Y'know, because America thinks they own everything and everyone, and they are a God-given gift to the world.

Sorry to take away from the humor in this thread, but from a political perspective, this is what the US as a society appear to me and I'm sorry if people are going to be offended:

I'm not offended, just entertained. Many of those things occurred generations ago, or aren't really even negatives, or are negatives shared by a lot of first world countries. That you think a few crazies here and there is somehow reflective of the collective beliefs of 300 million people speaks more to your extreme naivety than that of any American.

I like "Shitty network TV with billions of commercials" being on the same list as slavery and genocide, by the way.

I just turned my AC off so my room can be 90 degrees so I can be less of a shitty American. If I get to 100 I can be a cool European.

These threads always lead to fascinating insights, a lot of US residents can't understand because they don't believe or support 90% of the things you are listing. It's like if I was confused why Afghanistan doesn't understand why we aren't fans of their society and culture. If I used your view they are all terrorists and willing to kill others for religion and opression.

Are these supposed to be bad?

It's a symptom of the over-consumption of resources. So many homes and places have air condition - it's a luxury item that uses a lot of electricity. I understand if it's a life necessity for some places, but it's just astounding that such a luxury item is in so many buildings, cars, and homes that may not even require it.

1. How are stuff like NSA, climate change denial, Guantanamo, drone strikes, extra-judicial killings of non-Americans, exploitation of resources, consumerism, exploitative capitalism, supporting Israel and Saudi Arabia, White supremacy, Militarized police force, Air conditioners for everyone, everywhere, Cars for everyone, shitty infrastructure, Inherent aversion to socialism, fucked up two-party political system, The American Dream, military spending, fast food not relevant to today?

2. You say that stuff was a long time ago, but what have the US as a society done to fix the damage it has caused to other nations? Nicaragua in the 80's? Iran in the 60's? Chile in the 70's?

3. Never did I say that the few crazies are reflective of the entire country.

Unless you want to be indoors and feel horrible then it's required. What's a place that doesn't need AC that has people?

[edit]

It honestly blows my mind that you thinking everyone having AC is someone a negative or that having cars is bad.

Well at least the french girl isn't asked what she thinks of americans, she is asked what are the stereotypes that french people have about americans.

What comes to mind for me at first is somewhat ignorant people but also very open socially. *This opinion is purely based on my own experiences when meeting several American people through school and work.

I just turned my AC off so my room can be 90 degrees so I can be less of a shitty American. If I get to 100 I can be a cool European.

You have to use Celsius to be a cool European.

And then you have to bitch at people using Fahrenheit because it doesn't meet your arbitrary, nonsensical criteria to qualify for everyday use.

It's really not that serious. It was a joke and I'm amazed at how many people have taken it so seriously.

Angry people take everything seriously.

You can't be a cool european and use the farenheit scale at the same time, silly.

No you're not, you enjoy doing. You do it any chance you get.

Also lol at fast food, AC and TV being on that list.

Yeah, honestly, I was expecting to see a lot more of this in that video. It feels like they always pick and choose responses that are going to be positive-ish when they make videos like this.

Before any butthurt Americans comment about how I'm just jelly, I am from America.

That French chick should take a nice fast food free bicycle ride to Normandy and ask the locals why they hang the American flag.

Yo, we do love pizza tho.

A lot of people seem to forget just how big America is though. American's travel in America which is a pretty damn big place. Flying to Europe for a week or two is either prohibitively expensive or it's simply impossible because of job position.

Otherwise they were all pretty correct.

As an Aussie, you are a complicated country.

You are overly-religious, obsessed with guns to the point of insanity, aggressive, self-obsessed and ignorant of other cultures. You're political system allows nutjobs to flourish, and your healthcare system would be laughable if it wasn't horrific.

And yet, when I visited for three weeks I was entranced with aspects of your culture and the stunning history and landscapes. The people, mostly, were wonderful. We traversed the Deep South, which is viewed as a backwater by foreigners, and had a truly amazing time.

I love you and yet you anger me so much at times.
