ok I need some tips for a boss that kicked my ass last night:

Currently I am running the castle again after rescuing Yukiko [she is also now in my party]. Teddy told me a new spirit moved into the castle. When I get to him [giant version of those king looking guys who summon] everything seems ok during the fight but he has an AoE that 1 shots everyone in my party.

Any suggestions on how to deal with him? I spent a fair amount of time grinding prior to this [currently at level 17].

Thanks

At you're current level it IS possible to beat him, but it requires a lot of luck and a lot agility buffs and debuffs. You will not survive getting hit by Rampage, but you can try dodging it. Get a persona with Sukunda to keep his accuracy down, and have Yosuke refresh Sukukaja on everyone on all of his turns (the boss resists physical and blocks wind so there's not much else he can do anyway).

Your next best bet is to wait until you're high enough level to make a persona that knows Tetrakarn (cast it on your and your party to reflect physical attacks). The boss will kill himself pretty quickly this way.

Spell Master is a good skill to have for the optional dungeon, it turns out. Now that I've found a Love Stone, my MC is casting Megidolaon every turn. Restrictions, what restrictions?

November dungeon spoilers and question:

I'm at the conversation with Namatame. I'm assuming how I answer these questions will be important, but I can't find a guide for what to choose. Help me GAF!

"Wait a second here..." -> "We're missing something." -> "Namatame's
true feelings." -> "Something's bothering me." -> "We're missing
something..." -> "Calm the hell down!"

EDIT- Oops. Are you referring to before the boss fight? Disregard my spoiler if you're in the dungeon.

It's not important.

Edit: I'm assuming you were talking about in the dungeon. If you we're talking about afterwards then read the above post.

I just beat
Shadow Mitsuo
on Normal, took me almost 30 mins. I'm level 39, that sound about right or am I underleveled?

Would've been a lot quicker if I had leveled Black Frost one more time to get Agidyne. Oh well.

For normal difficulty, that's fine. He's level 45, so if you're within five levels of the boss you're not underleveled.

Even at level 50, I still struggle with trying to fuse and use persona. I really could use a guide for how to build a successful set. I end up having to keep at least five that I have to juggle between and then spend a bunch of time each turn trying to remember which ones have which spells. :p

Eh, there's really no need for a guide. A typical line-up just needs a healing persona, a physical persona, and some elemental personae. The party all learns buffs/debuffs so that's just optional. I tend to treat personae like Pokemon.

The
shell-form mechanic
really pads out what would be an otherwise normal boss fight. Even on repeat playthroughs with uber-personae that fight is a pain.

I can't recall a turn-based RPG fight system I really actively enjoyed. ATB-based systems like FFVIII or Xenoblade are more my thing I guess, but that wouldn't really jive with the way Persona's critical + weakness systems go (and even then I don't find them all that fun).

I guess my biggest complaint is that as I fuse new persona, I'm constantly having to relearn which persona have which spells. So it makes battle frustrating because I can't remember which persona I'm carrying has shock or darkness, etc. I can't remember, unlike my other party members who's personas I have memorized.

I generally keep one or two 'battle persona' on hand and switch everybody else out for s.linking

especially with skill cards, you can afford to have one or two uber-specialised personas. I was running Black Frost for elemental damage (all forms) and Tam Lin for physical/buffing.

You can check the roster anytime it's the MC's turn in combat so I never had that problem. lol, of course I've poured far too many hours in the series. :p

FFVIII and Xenoblade are completely different. :S

Personally, I love Persona's battles. Not sure what it is about them, I just do
(It's probably everything and I'm a fanboy)

Sure, but they don't follow a rigid 'this guy's turn, then this guy's turn, then this guy's turn' structure, it's all about refresh rates.

That sounds like a smart strategy. I'll try those.

My experience with this boss was that he would NOT use RAMPAGE unless the MC used a physical attack against him. I just let my MC act as healer and had everyone else go at him as best they could... Worked like a charm...

There is definitely something that provokes him into rampage, unless there is a luck element too - I know the time I fought him and he didn't rampage at all I was really careful about having at least one person not attacking on the turn. I am pretty sure I had MC attack, though.

I didn't even know the prince had rampage. He NEVER used it on me, but I also never used physical attacks at him for any of my characters.

I've had the Prince use Rampage on me as his first move with zero physical provocation. Wiped my party straight up. :(

Then again, Very Hard and all that.

I had that happen to me on normal.

I didn't even get a chance to attack.

So I've been thinking more about Marie and how she could have been better integrated into the story.

It seems to me the best way possible would have been to make her more apparent to the team right off the bat and not to regulate her 'team building' stuff solely to her S.link activity. If they had made the game differently I would have cast her as an additional party member, but I think maybe a more visible representation beforehand of the Velvet Room/TV world would have been good [specifically, to the S.link team - A mysterious fox-esque character or something, even though they ignored Fox afterwards too except when in dungeons...]. As it is, she really does feel really slotted in up until about the ski trip or so where everybody acts as if they've been good friends all year or something even though you've only ever hung out on social link occasions. I think she has a pretty strong themeatic kind of role ultimately in the overall story, but because she's not integrated well enough near the beginning of the game, she kind of loses her overall effectiveness. She wraps the epilogue really well though.

Late game stuff:

I've been in Marie's dunegeon for about an hour and a half now and I hate it. It's soooo boring and irritating. Kinda makes me regret ever talking to Marie in the first place, I've never really liked her. But on a positive note, the ski trip before it was awesome!

Hey, Nanako has an exclamation mark over her head, but when I try to hang I'm being told "your relationship isn't ready to advance yet" or something like that. I think I can still hang out with here. I thought at first this was because I didn't have a Justice Persona, but now I do. What's the deal?
