I am right at
Adachi's level
. I'm not ready for this journey to end....

But you've still got quite a bit of content left assuming you're doing the bonus/true ending stuff.

I'm currently on January 20th. Do I even have enough time to start a new Social Link, or shall I just spend that time doing other things?

No time really. The cut off is
Feb 5th, and few social links will be free on all the days before then.

Yeah, unfortunately, because FES's fusing help is complete bollocks I appear to have accidentally made a party completely of Zio/Agidyne/Garu users. One guy on Bufula but it's shithouse. Gonna go grind me a Chernobog to make a slash immune Thor.

I really like the multiple types of phys damage in P3 though, I like it better than the straight up 'phys' class in P4

It's hard to get some good ice Persona in P3 for some reason. I know Bufu is always the skill I struggle with when I make my quad-elemental Lilim.

And yeah, the multiple types of physical damage is a godsend, as there were a lot of redundant physical attacks in Persona 4, and almost none weak to them in the vanilla game. I was glad to see that despite changing the weapon system they left physical elements alone.

It also means there's an actual difference between some of the phys skills. I hope they bring it back, it didn't add that much thinking complexity but it made party balance/persona variety more important

Reading Jintor's WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING YOU STUPID PARTY MEMBER posts really took me back to the times when I played P3/P3FES... Aaahhh the memories.

Still vividly remember Junpei repeatedly attack the last boss even after it cast Tetrakan on itself... repeatedly.

But it's part of the experience, hahaha.

I actually quite like it when I'm grinding, if you set the tactics right I can read a book between battles. Although I'd like it even more if there was just a straight-up 'skip animations' setting like in Fire Emblem or Advance Wars or something.

Against gimmick bosses it's a hassle though. The twelfth shadow with it's "Kill these three things to all out attack but it'll summon dudes so kill those first" was infuriating. Can't command for 'attack all', have to manually reassign targeting every turn... urgh

It's a shitty design choice. That's why they changed it. You can love the game and acknowledge that.

It's far better as an option in P4 than as an enforced mechanism.

I wonder if taking the next step and allowing even more character customisation would be the answer. Golden moves towards it a little and I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing. it sure is handy though, even if you need to use an FAQ to get anything out of it

Decided to stop procrastinating today and beat the game. Already started my NG+.

I should be playing something else, like VLR or DmC yet I'm refusing to leave P4G.

Playing on normal for NG+, but may play around with some of the money/damage settings.

More character customization would be a godsend. P4/Golden's is too obtuse. Part of that is the fault of redundant physical skills and poor descriptions tho.

New Chie voice is an ABORTION.

I'm crying.

Eh, it's fine. She's a bit squeaker than I would like but you'll get used to it.

I did really like the old dichotomy of spunky Chie having an oddly mature-sounding voice though.

yall need to learn to manage your tactics better.

a) Can't check moves in-battle to see what my other party members can do, so relying on memory
b) Heal is the same as support, no dedicated debuff tactic
c) Tactics should have that complicated FFX thing where I can set IF THEN operators!

I disagree. I think it was a bold (And in a lot of ways, much more interesting) design decision, but the execution brought it down. The idea that you only control yourself and have to rely on everyone else is both very intriguing and very fitting of Persona, in my opinion.

Completely ruined the character for me.

It's cool though, I just go deaf whenever she speaks.

What do you mean by character customisation?

c) Tactics should have that complicated FFX thing where I can set IF THEN operators!

This would make the system redundant. I agree with your other two points though.

Battle role changing. Like being able to spec for dedicated healer or debuff or phys damage or whatever. You'd have to limit it because party members are supposed to be specialised, but a little room to move wouldn't hurt if the game was built around it properly.

I don't understand what you mean. Give an example?

Stuff like being able to pick which skills are kept on a party member, and the bike/social link skills. But it's handled pretty poor in Persona 4. You practically need a guide to get the best out of it.

There's at least five skills that say "Inflicts a small amount of Physical damage on one enemy." Good luck figuring out the difference between them. :p

I never did lol

God Hand was the same as Fatal End to me and damned if I'll look what that means on a wiki! Just deal massive damage and away!

In terms of damage. Bash < Cleave < Skewer < Sonic Punch < Single Shot.

Special mention goes to the severe tier too. You'd have no idea that Primal Force is much more powerful than God Hand or Brave Blade. >_>

I haven't figured out Akasha Arts to Myriad Arrows either. The later costs more HP, but is significantly less powerful.

I also hope they differentiate follow up attacks more. Chie's is insane compared to everybody's elses, do the others even have specialties?

More group attacks! Differing triggering conditions! Combined cavalry attacks! Limit breaks, I don't goddamn know!

I swear I feel as if I'm the only one that prefers the new Chie to the old.

Nope, love new Chie. I can't even remember what her old voice sounds like anymore. Granted it's been a few years and I watched the rest of the Vol. 2 anime dub before finally finishing the game. Also, she's adorable during the date scenes.

Hey, never disputing that. But since it was forced upon us, like it or not, that is really part of the experience of playing Persona 3/FES, hahaha. And for me personally it never bothered me that much.

It seems like Erin Fritzgerald is really specializing in ruining character's voices, hahaha. Her high pitch can be unbearable sometimes. Her job in this one is not bad, though I do prefer the old Chie.

Compensates for her less-than-ideal battle performance compared to others :p

I actually prefer Kanji and Naoto's follow up attacks over most of the cast. It's easier to get an all-out attack going.

I dislike its entirely random nature though. Sometimes it hit 3 enemies, sometimes it hit 2, sometimes it just hit what's already downed, etc etc.

I swear I feel as if I'm the only one that prefers the new Chie to the old.

She's not bad, but the old is better.

These won me over, but I still like OG Chie in my heart.

Ahaha I just realised in the dub for the anime they just straight up say what they're thinking when they're following Kanji around and he catches them

Chie: We're not trying to follow you or anything or I think you might be GAY and if you are that would be cool too! I think that's great!
Kanji: ...Did you say 'gay'?

You say that, but it's really just another way of creating artificial difficulty. "We can't design enemies/encounters, so we'll just cripple the player."

I could easily say they just need to implement better AI, but if you give me direct control you eliminate the concern completely.

I'm all for interesting design, but developers often don't realize that what they're making isn't fun or is frustrating. It's okay to be conventional; sometimes playing itself is the best course of action. You can't get so carried away with being interesting that you start driving me nuts and don't even notice.

It was moments like that when the "Scooby Doo" angle of P4 shines immensely.

To me it's the same as animation priority in all-out action games. It's a different stance if the game is built around it (Dark Souls), but in something like DmC where being effective stops me from dodging attacks it's a huge hassle.

So they changed "strange" to flat out saying "gay"?

Huh.

Fox should have been a playable party member covering electricity and wind.

That would have been cool.

I mean they had a robot and a dog in P3, it would have worked fine.

Sure.

I don't think it suits Persona. I think they know that and that's why that and the other elements are like it (random skill inheritance, for example) have been rooted out in the re-releases.

You can look at all that stuff and say that's what differentiates Persona games, but I think it's the non-combat stuff that makes the games unique. The mantra of "minimal control" in P3 is unique, too - uniquely bad.

No no no no no no.

They should scrap these... 'novelty' party members like Koromaru, Teddie, and those robotic girls. Hopefully in the next Persona we get all human/'normal' party members for a change.

Dude, we had a shadow as a party member in the original Persona. They're not going anywhere.

Especially not Aigis. :D

They feel way more novelty in P3 because of their manner of introduction.

The fact that you have to go through a dungeon to rescue your party members in P4 does a world of difference in making you give a shit about them even before you get to the hanging out and shooting the shit with them on a regular basis bit. And your novelty members are Teddy (who you meet first and hang out with for like three months) and Mysterious Fox (who is more or less ignored, to her detriment)

On the other hand, chilling at the dorm with your buddies approaches that, but without s.links for everybody and regular hang-out events it's not the same.

I really enjoyed P3's summer vacation because it was the first real SEES hangout session, even if it did have that dumb hitting-on-girls-oops-she's-a-he thing which was pretty much straight up offensive.

I tend to ignore the offensive elements of Operation Babe Hunt cuz it's funny for the most part, and the rest of the vacation is awesome plot wise!

Oh great. That's exactly what RPGs need more of. Human protagonists.

If I can't social link with an inanimate object in the next Persona it's not a Persona title!

s.link with the vending machine, bitches!

I forgot to mention that I really liked Mitsuru's dad
looking like a complete asshole but turning out to be a reasonable authority figure

remember me
Aigis and Teddie are easily the most marketed characters in the series, so if they don't return in P4, they'll definitely try to come up with a new mascot party member. I'm calling it right now, playable Jack Frost. Persona! Hee ho!
