well, that settles it...

there really is a factory that packages and distributes 'barrels of awesome' directly to Sony's headquarters around the world

No, I made the official thread for Persona 4. I love the games, but fuck.

Please let Persona sit for a while. I'm tired of the Persona stuff.
I sure hope we don't have to wait for another 2 generation leap for another mainline SMT.

Blame the fact that Persona 3 wasn't "niche" after people caught wind it was trying to break the standard norm for JRPGs and liked it. Then more people liked P4 (partially due to GiantBomb's videos on it).

I'm all for more SMT coming over, and while I agree with you about Persona needing a break (If this does release this year for PS3) I wouldn't be surprised if Atlus continues to pillage on the series for as long as it makes bank.

Not fake or misinterpreted, just not confirmed as anything beyond speculation. Could be a leak, but we don't know for sure. The junior that got banned for posting it was banned because he couldn't actually read Japanese and just ran with what he got through babelfish hoping to get a scoop on the news. That's a nono.

Exclusive to PS3 or not I don't care. The important thing for the next Persona is to be in a next gen system, not ps2 or the wii, ps3/360 is the only way.

Hey, if it's as good as 4 they can release a new one every year and I'll be happy.

I believe duckroll did just that and banned someone for it.

I find it remarkable how persona is so insanely Japanese and it has broken through to the NA market to be almost "mainstream"

What's the difference?

(I'm not being snarky, I really don't know.)
SMT is the main series. Persona is a spin off from SMT. Persona's popularity worldwide has eclipsed the main series (for a number of reasons).

So the Wii is not a next gen system?

Persona is more of an offshoot from the SMT mainline series. The last SMT game from the mainline released is Nocturne.

*I could be totally wrong!

I wouldn't mind more Persona, but that's because I've just played 3 & 4.

Playing Devil Summoner 2 right now... It's going alright. It needs to pick up its pace a bit.

It's like 90210... just without the sex (well, implied sex in P3's case). :lol

Yeah, but are there any gameplay differences?

Mostly resolving the plot (SMT3 ending spoiler:
in the alleged true ending the plot cliffhangs with you replacing Lucifer as the leader of fiends in the fight against YHWH
), but also because the main series is much more difficult.

Also because it's a different set of games we so might get another new battle system, press turn and one more have gone on for too long.

Plus the alignments in in the main series aren't the generic: good = happy hugs and orphan donations, evil = murder everything and rape puppies.

Tkawsome said:

Yes. For one, SMT3/Nocturne is not a "dating sim" with a Diablo 2 mashed in.

None of them are you numbnuts, it is current-gen, current-gen! Sorry, but this is a pet peeve of mine, as the 360, PS3, and Wii are not next-gen!

As for Persona V, bring it on!

Nope, not going to forgive you. Too bad, should've thought about that before you posted.

It's just an article about SMT Pachislot being launched in Japan, and it ends off by saying that the pachislot games will feature many systems which will be familiar to the fans of the series itself, and that together with the PS3 Persona 5 (which they assume will be announced and offers no source whatsoever) it will create a boost in the popularity of SMT branding all over Japan.

Let this be a harsh lesson for people who enjoy posting "news" they cannot read. Jr members who are banned, do not return. :(
Run for your life, OP. :(

On second thought, I think you'll be okay since you got it from an English news source.

Oh okay, I was confused about that. In that case, hopefully this is true. I didn't realize Persona 4 had an unusual leak/announcement/thing so maybe there is some truth to this.

I haven't played a Persona game since the first...
I'm pretty interested in getting back into it, though.

Hmm.. to wait on P5 or go back in w/ P4?

Yea you're right hahaha. I guess I need to remember that, but everyone calls them next gen systems. So blame them Huelen :(

Start with P3:FES, you can find it pretty cheap. If you like it, go with P4. It refines a bunch of things that P3 had and makes them better.

Then wait for P5 with the rest of us. :lol

This gen has been going on for 3 years and people still call it next gen, it's annoying.

Yes. The main series does not have all the time-management "social link" stuff. But Persona (which is just one of the spinoff lines) actually has more entries than the main series now, and has been increasingly successful recently. It's possible a variant of those ideas might transfer back to the next iteration of the stem series, whenever that comes out.

Persona employs an emphasis on being more mainstream and appealing to the anime crowd. Persona is like an anime in game form (especially 2-4) while main series goes for a more darker, less-conventional feel.

The core gameplay is similar; gather demons through the power of negotiation (if the game *has* negotiation) and demon fusion. However, what sets SMT main series and Persona are apart is SMT's emphasis on alignments (good, evil, neutral), multiple endings, and gamplay while Persona emphasizes on story and (at least with 1 and 2) a heavily developed demon negotiation system. Persona 3 and 4 take the story emphasis into overdrive, however.

Basically, it's not that we don't like Persona. Some of us actually love the series. It's just that...well, we've had Persona 3, Fes, 4, a port of 1 in just 2-3 years while other SMT series (Devil Summoner 2 and the new Devil Survivor aside) remain neglected.

Right on.

The article is dated July 2nd and we are only hearing about it now...

"However, other media like Dengeki Online were at the event and didn’t report anything about Persona 5."

While this would make me happy as a clam, I won't hold my breath.

The alignments aren't good, evil, and neutral. They're Law, Chaos, and Neutral and no one side is glamorized into looking like the heroes(okay Neutral is actually pretty close to good but technically it's like not picking a side).

And with Nocturne the regular 3 alignments weren't used.

Start with P3, which has better story and characters. The gameplay in 4 is much better, so if you play 4 before 3, you'll never make it through 3. Just my opinion, but don't pass on the story and characters of 3.

I don't keep up on the Sales Age. Are people finally buying PS3s? Good for Sony!
I just love Atlus and wouldn't want to see them financially hurt. Maybe DS would have been sweet.

sounds like you don't want it on ps3 and maybe you're just a hater for bringing up "sales age" as a kind of shot to the ps3. atlus games are not really big budget and a game from them for a RPG audience on ps3 is fine.

In Nocturne, the alignments were represented to a degree, while the Reasons were the replacement due to story reasons I suppose.

Oh I agree that the reasons were related to the alignments, but there were distinct differences.

Instead of Law, Chaos, and Neutral; you had "Strength", "Solitude", "Stillness", "Humanity", and
"True Demon"
.

Don't forget "Total Fuck Up".

EDIT: Why is everybody ignoring Strange Journey?
