Yeah,
after playing 2 I think I knew way too much about Maya and her love/lust for a high school boy.

Poor Ulala
She is going to have back problems because of her breast when she is older. :(

Couldn't care less about Persona, but would be interested in a new SMT. The execution of the last game made it unplayable for me, but the idea is interesting. Persona has no appeal at all.

Are you referring to SMT3? If so, shame. It does deviate quite a bit from SMT 1 and 2, but it's still an incredibly thrilling journey. Oh, and it has an awesome throwback reference to SMT2, but i won't spoil it ;)

That whole thing was a holy shit moment for me. So awesome.

The main thing I will always irk me about SMT 3 is the lack of equipment for the main character. I know it shouldn't matter considering the situations... but outfitting my character was one of the things I enjoyed most about SMT1/2 and Persona 1.

wow pimp avatar there totally missed it

Yeah, goodbye swords and armor, hello eating demon bugs. :3

And while we're on this bit about the SMT 2 plot twist in Nocturne, anybody else think that the Chronicle edition of SMT Nocturne was more than just a reskin of Maniacs, insofar that maybe
Gouto suffered the same curse that Hijiri has on his soul, or a variant of it
?

Nay. Gouto's backstory is pretty well explained in Raidou 2's sidequests.

The bit where
he crossed the Yatagarasu and was turned into talking cat and having to observe each of his successors
? Yeah that's kinda what I was talking about, sorta like
Hijiri having to observe each cycle of Vortex World and can never have peace after death
, but without so much YOU FAILED NOW SUFFERRRRR to it.

Iunno, it just felt like devoting even more R&D into SMT Nocturne just to put Raidou XIV in there felt kinda excessive.

Did you get the true demon ending?

The main one I got was.

Hijiri is actually the main character from SMT2 who is cursed by God after he attempts to destroy him at the end of SMT2. He is forever trap in an endless cycle of death and rebirth always being present at the beginning and end of a new world but NEVER being able to have any part in it's conception.

Also a lot of the spirits you speak to in the
Kalpa are people from SMT1/2. The varies cults and what not that fought each other so long ago. Also I'm pretty sure the Kerberous(sp?) you meet for the time trials is pet dog from the protagonist in the original smt
.

Just really great stuff to see them add in.

Wait, was
he deemed to have failed the Yatagarasu? I must have missed that. I thought that was a privilege they granted to him after he got incinerated while working for them. He died an honorable death, and they continued the Raidou name for many millenia afterwards.

Thanks ;)

SMT 2 and SMT 3 spoilers:
The last boss of SMT 2 is YHWH, the jewish/christian god. The main character of SMT 2, Aleph, is given the choice of becoming the "messiah", or rejecting his prophesied title. Upon rejecting the order of Law, he defeats YHWH. In Nocturne, Lucifer tells you that Jyoji Hijiri never actually made it to the hospital in time of the conception. The reason he survived is because he was cursed by YHWH. Cursed to wander the world all of eternity, writing the history of each and every incarnation of the planet. Jyoji Hijiri is Aleph, the MC from SMT 2

Wasn't Persona 4 announced during a news brief on Bloomberg News Channel? I mean, it's pretty unlikely, but it could happen.

The announcement was leaked, and most people had the common sense not to believe it until Famitsu had a feature on it.

I haven't gotten that far, my understanding is that his form is a curse on himself, but the Raidou name itself probably has some special clout to it. Someone who beat Raidou 2 to completion, help me out here. >_>

Eh, I can't really reveal anything without full spoilers for both Raidou 1 and 2.

ok, since we've been a bit off topic anyway:

-only SMT ive played is Nocturne, which is brilliant but unforgivably hard as shit goes on...i will finish it one day, though. are there any others in the series that absolutely must be played? unlike persona, this series carries plot bits over, yeah?

-I adored P3 FES, and lost a chunk of my life to it. i put down 4 early on for fear of the same, and only a handful of characters'd introduced themselves...do they get better/more interesting? cause someone else made the comment in this thread, but im not getting the vie i did with SEES and that crew. i know the system's improved, which is great, but im hoping it didnt come with a dropoff of character/plot.

Persona 4 has much stronger character development and interaction. It's also a darker game when it comes to the main characters. They're all psychologically tormented, and you'll get to learn all about it. I felt a much stronger connection to P4's characters than P3's. P4 is definitely the better game -- but I personally like P3 better.

When I first started 4 the characters didn't do it for me...but they grew on me. I won't say that the characters/stories are better in 4 (I probably prefer 3) but it's not like P3's cast is vastly better. Also the story/setting are so different that I don't feel like I'm playing Persona 3.5.

cool, glad to hear it. darker is good, darker's why nocturne ranks up there for me. out of curiosity then, what about 3 holds its higher place for you? is it the how 3 felt fresh for its new system?

yeah, i got that vibe early on, the small town thing is an interesting take after the big city thing, which is why i also wasnt too afraid of feeling like a rehash...but again, im kinda saving it for a rainy day so as to not burn out on the series, just tied up FES earlier this year and if i dont play a few lesser RPGs in between, i wont appreciate it as much. mediocre RPGs are some zen shit that way, for me.

anyway, thanks guys.

Did not like the characters in Persona 4 one bit. It's been a long standing tradition that characters be walking cliches when they are introduced but unlike other Persona games, they don't change much in this one (at least in the social link stories). I was two or so dungeons away from finishing the game and I could not continue on.

I really did love the gameplay enhancements, but they do not save the game from becoming just as repetitive as P3 by the end. Except I did want to see the final resolution in that one. P4 is the only SMT game I have not finished.

Well I think this would be pretty awesome if it's true.

People who want Persona 5 to be announced before SMT4 should be eaten by wolves.

I don't want P5 announced before SMT: IV so much as I don't care if it is. Either game will do for me as long as we can get them on the PS3.

Oh yes, I know.

Not p'od with VC so much as disappointed. But if it continues to happen (like if they did it with P5), then it would start to piss me off.

But this is for another thread.

you mean crappy RPGs

Tales of Vesperia, Lost Odyssey, and Blue Dragon (might've been standard, was anything but crappy) say no.

Though I do think its strange that there havent been many console JRPGs and we're like...3 years into this cycle?

I wish this become real.

After playing Persona 4, I'm sure this will be one of the biggest (o the greatest) RPG of this gen, independent of when and where it will be released

They've all packed up and left for the handhelds.

Persona 5 already, huh?

*Looks at sealed copies of Persona 3, Persona 3:FES, and Persona 4*

Man, I really got to find the time to actually play through those games one of these days.

Yeah I was about to say star ocean is a great 360 rpg. But I really hope Persona 5 is exclusive, it would give me a reason to play my ps3.

You can play on PS3 even with it not being exclusive you know.
