Persona 5 |OT2| Someone must have been helping you go to bed early. Talk!

Since I finished the game, the tone of the scenario especially in the final leg has been bothering me in the sense that it feels so different from P3 and P4 that it feels someone who wrote for the other MegaTen games must have influenced it. So I went to look at the credits again.

The lead scenario design for Persona 5 is credited to Shinji Yamamoto. He has been an event planner for ages, since Digital Devil Saga at least, but his scenario writing contributions in particular are for Raidou 2 and SMTIV. I guess that explains it! I thought it would have been Isogai or Yamai, but it was someone who worked with both of them a lot instead. Pretty cool!

Yeah the entire final segment is SMT as fuck, and actually pretty different from P4 despite following a similar set up.
Boy do I love killing God's angels.

The ending of this game is basically the PS3 SMT game we never got, lol.

Appearance aside, these 3 characters have quite a bit in common

Hey! I need some info about the endgame (S-link related).
I have the following S-link to upgrade:
- Empress - rank 1
- Emperor - rank 8
- Hiero. - rank 8
- Hermit - rank 7
- Fortune - rank 8
- Hanged - rank 3
- Devil - rank 5
- Tower - rank 7
- Start - rank 7

I'm on
11/27, and I have to sent the card for the 7th palace
. Do you think I have the time to max all my S-link? I know I can't if i'm on the last freetime period but is there going to be more free time after ?
Thanks :)

You have up to around
December 20 or so To finish up confidant stuff. So sadly no. I would pick three or four of those that were your favorite and focus on maxing out those.

That's pretty interesting actually.

Hmm I have a weird thing. I'm midway through Oct, just finished Okumura palace and want to go into Mementos. But Morgana tells me "you have some information on a target, you should figure it out first" or something like that. But in the Request menu, all the active ones say "ID'd!". What gives?

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.

Did you View Requests at the hideout?

Also, try not to spoil Palaces.

So, the money exploit. This is it, basically?

1) Accept a Mememtos request or two.
2) Fuse a Persona with Pulinpa and Confuse Boost. (Any recommendations? It's based on luck, isn't it?)
3) Keep casting confuse on the bosses, watch them throw lots of money my way.

Anything else I'm missing? Wish I'd done this on my last playthrough, I'm only level 19 so I can't fuse anything too large yet, but I'll work on it.

91 hours in so far and i don't want it to end, enjoying it so much T_T this is my first persona game but all future entries will be day 1 for sure now.
(I ended up playing with japanese vo's after my question here just over a fortnight ago XD ).

Currently at the
casino palace, got to play the slots machine with 5000 coin fee.

Yes.

Pretty sure Sae telling you the name is the first time you hear it. Okumura doesn't even enter the story until it's time for his palace.

That one is little different on the spoiler front though, because it's easy to relate it to a name that is all over the marketing and connect dots.

I have a question.

I've put over 45 hours into the game and I've just started the fifth palace proper. The game is 'really' damn good, but my interest in the story and gameplay loop is waning. I've got two rank 10 confidants (the only ones that matter to me, Lovers and Temperance) and I'm finding myself just fast-forwarding through most dialogue. I think now is the point I place the game on hold and move on to Nier: Automata, Yooka-Laylee, then Persona 4 Golden.

So, my question is, roughly how many hours do I have left to complete Persona 5?

I think it's one of the early moon personas that has both pulinpa and confuse boost. Fuse it to get a higher level persona with a better luck stat. Before confirming the fuse, on the bonus exp screen you'll see various stats highlighted. You can keep backing out and re selecting the fusing persona to highlight different stats. Ideally you just want the luck stat highlighted but that's rare. Usually I confirm the fuse when is just luck and 1 other stat thinking it gets me more points going into luck on level up. In my experience however most of the points have gone to the other stat when I do this. :(

In any case, after this you are going to want to sac other personas to level up the farming persona and increase its luck that way. This can get expensive because you have to save the strengthened persona to the compendium, then delete it from your stock personas, then re purchase it from the compendium, and finally, strengthen again. Because you can normally only strengthen the same persona once per day.

Things to keep in mind:
-Even after all of this, it's still very slow and tedious.
-Confuse always lasts 3 turns only.
-After the third turn it will attack you as normal so have something to heal with. You can use some of the items thrown at you. Additionally, you may want a persona with some null/absorb for this reason That way you don't worry so much about damage.
-You won't always get money thrown at you during the time it's confused.
-It may throw money, items or nothing at all during those 3 turns.
-Have some SP regen. It may throw SP regen items too so use those when available.
-Go into battle solo. No teammates.

This was extremely boring for me. So I just tallied up around 40 80k money throws before i called it quits. i did it relatively late in the game. Got around 3M that way and I was good. Then I used that to get just over 80% compendium completion with still 2M left over for NG+.

Plenty of people put Persona on hold roundabout mid-way to two-thirds of the way through, so if you're feeling it then yeah pick up something else for a while. Both Yooka-Laylee and Automata are far shorter so they'll be a nice change of pace. However, unless you're returning to P4G and not playing that blind, I'd drop that from that list. P5's Confidants are, my opinion her btw, leagues better than 4's. General gameplay, dungeon traversal, and certain QoL all have noticeable improvements too. Dropping 5 at this stage (around two-thirds of the way in) in place of 4G isn't what I'd do.

Edit: Forgot to say, about 20-30 hours given your current speed, some of the later palaces are long.

With your pacing you have about 45-50 hours left. I wouldnt recommend changing the game and dont start p4 golden now. Finish that one up or else you will be out of the story.

Thanks for the replies. I'll put P5 on hold for now, move on to Nier: Automata and Yooka-Laylee, then I'll try to continue P5 afterwards.

Gotcha. Thanks for the tips. I've already got around 80% completion anyway, so it's likely that I already have that persona, plus around 750,000 in the bank, so I should be able to make a decent start on luck boosting when I next go to Mememtos.

Welp credits rolling for my first playthrough. Think I'll take a brake before my NG+. Though I'll reload and watch all the Christmas and Valentine's scenes tonight or tomorrow.

Going to stew for a bit and see if I can get my thoughts together before looking back overall. I seem to disagree with consensus on a couple of things . Still an excellent game and the integration of S Links into other aspects even for non-party members was great.

On more immediate late game impressions:
I really don't understand the 20ish dead levels (and accompanying Persona) after 70 though. I levelled up to 93 so I could finish the compendium and utterly murdered the final boss even on Hard.

Because of how the bonus boss works it doesn't seem like it's very useful for that either. On that subject
Can you fight the bonus boss on 12/24 before they remege or is 12/22 the lost chance ? Morgana's not a very viable inclusion without Evade Wind so I'd have to use Makoto as healer.

Feels like they either didn't didn't get the level curve quite right or were missing a dungeon (which to be fair is probably for the best, this is one long game if you do everything unless it was something like Monad from P3).

I'm getting to the end of my NG+ run and pretty much the only things I need to do is max out Haru's link and fill out the compendium. Boy, nights sure are boring. Now I willingly go to bed. Go figure.

I spent my first game
12/23
doing my own laundry.

God, being in the "I'm rich as shit and high enough level for any Persona fusing" zone of filling out your compendium is great. Fusing all these awesome looking Personas with crazy powers I've never used before. It's a shame that it's so near the end of my platinum run. Guess I'll save all these OP crazy Personas for a rainy day and NG++

EDIT: Whoops, sorry double post.

Yeah the end of my NG+ run I basically spent the days going through all the hangout/date scenes with confidants since I hadn't seen all of them, and spent the evenings sleeping(I'm sure Morgana was proud!).

Finally finished this game last night. Clocked in at 139 hours and 50 minutes. My god, what an amazing ride that was. It's funny to think that I didn't care too much about P5 before, my primary reason for getting it being that I wanted the steelbook. I wasn't a big fan of the series before; sure, I enjoyed 3 and 4 a lot, but never got around to finishing them and they didn't leave as much of an impression on me as it seemed to most other people. But holy hell, Persona 5 was a completely different story. It's the best impulsive(ish) purchases I ever made because it drew me in right from the get-go and I was (lol, yeah, "was") so damn addicted to it that I thought about it day in and day out. I listened to the soundtrack while at work, and kept thinking of wanting to go home already so I could play, etc. But now it's finally over and I am relieved, because I no longer feel the need to play it so badly. Although, yeah, I really want to start New Game Plus already, but I've got shows and movies to watch, A Storm of Swords to read, and NieR: Automata waiting.

I think I did pretty damn well for my first run without any walkthrough. I did use a few guides here and there for Persona Fusion and some of the Confidants, but yeah. Finished at level 86. Completed 80% of the Persona Compendium, which would have been much lower had I not realized how much I wanted to Platinum the game. Only managed to max out 15 of the 21 Confidants, missing out on Lovers, Empress, Hermit, Tower, Hanged Man, and Devil. I really, really hate that I couldn't max out all my teammates. I also got some of those sweet endgame equipment, such as Nataraja, Judge of the Dead, Sabazio, and Ruyi Jingu Bang. By the end of it, Queen had +15 all stats. It was fucking glorious.

I love the story and characters all so much, but it kind of began dipping in quality for me with Palace 5.
Haru's introduction felt rushed and her character overall could have been done better, e.g., by letting the players get to know her earlier in the story and having her actually be fazed by her father's death. Although, one could argue that she's kind of a psychopathic homicidal maniac, so... Anyway, there's also Akechi, of course. I got somewhat spoiled, but the twist was too obvious. And similar to Haru, we could have spent more time getting to know the character better earlier in the game. There also wasn't much time between Palace 7 and 8, so it felt like things happened a little too fast. It made sense, given the context, yeah, but still just a minor issue for me.
But yeah, the story was fantastic. I love the theme and it was mostly really well done. I love the characters very much, both my party members and the supporting cast.

Gameplay was so good too. It never felt like a chore, and I never felt like I needed to grind. Except for this one time that I saw I was below the average player level, which I was having none of. I played on Normal for the most part, only switching to Hard after I Reaper farmed and went from 67 to 80. It still wasn't really hard, but then, yeah, I was like, 20 levels higher than most enemies. It was super satisfying whenever things connected really well and I could take out the entire enemy team in one turn. I remember being blown away by the "1 More" feature and All-Out Attack when I first played Persona 3, but now they added Baton Pass and Shadow Negotiation, and it was all just stylish as hell, so it was so much more fun. That, and P5 has the sweetest music ever. It got me pumped so much, so often. God, I love it so much.

The dungeons were fan-fucking-tastic. I enjoyed them all and never felt like they were too damn long. I recall hating Tartarus from Persona 3 because of its random nature. This was so refreshing, having it all the same, with puzzles, hiding spots, etc. Speaking of which, yeah, thank fuck for ambushing enemies. If I recall correctly, it was very difficult to do in Persona 3, and that was another thing I hated. Here, it's a little too easy to do, but you still can't be too careless, of course. It's just a shame that Ryuji's damned Insta-Kill ability ruins it and prevented me from ambushing ever again from Palace 7 onwards.

Oh, and Confidants. That was great. The addition of abilities that helped you in your phantom thievery and social life was just wonderful. Enough thanks cannot be given to Kawakami and Chihaya. Bless those two lovely ladies. The abilities Shinya could teach you were pretty dope too.

Man, I could have sworn this wasn't going to beat Horizon for me, but Persona 5 totally blew it out of the water. Now, when the fuck are those spin-offs getting announced? I need more P5 in my life.

Does anyone know how to unlock the Man of Many Faces and Debts request? I have been literally looking everywhere on the internet on how to unlock it. It says it's unlocked by natural story progression, but I don't have the request and I never beat it either. What do I do???

Got the plat today. 175 hours total (10 hours of me leaving the PS4 on had it at 185. Not even joking about that 10 hour number...)

The "secret battle" in this game is one of the worst superboss battles I've ever experienced in jRPGs. Got it on my second try but I find it baffling how you can do it without certain very specific setups. Poor. At least it made for some interesting story tidbits.

Overall: Love this game but they could have shaved 20 hours off it. First Persona game though and I love it. Definitely want to go back and play P3 and P4 now (and eventually P1 and 2 although I've ready those are very different than P3 onwards).

Without spoilers, could you let me know if I'm getting close to the ending or if I'm still pretty far from it?
I'm about to go on the school trip right after the summer break, and I've played about 86 hours.

Shit I tried to fuse all the Personas, but I ran out of money. Can you do the money exploit against any Mementos boss? I sure hope so because I only got one of them left :c

Still pretty far, maybe 50-60 more hours at your pace?
