Persona 5 |OT2| Someone must have been helping you go to bed early. Talk!

115h in the game right now, will finish it today I guess, the game was a clear 10/10 after about 60 hours BUT it went to hell with the 6th palace marking it's worst one yet. I really hated the mechanic with the statues and the crawling through vent shafts to unlock dozens of doors from the other side, this was a back tracking nightmare that is only there to annoy you and let you waste time.

I think I found the Vault to be the best palace, it had a really nice feel to it and the music was insane.

If it weren't for the execution of the ending of the 6th palace I guess I would have stopped playing, even though the conclusion of it wasn't that amazing, instead it was very underwhelming but I guess that's a plot device too and all will be fine in the end?

I will give my final verdict later, even though no one might be interested :p

I thought palace 6 was phenomenal imo. The game started to become a slog fest at some points after that. Nah, i'm interested in hearing your final verdict. I think it will take a lot of reflection to determine if this was the best Persona yet.

It kinda sounds like you're describing the 7th palace instead of the 6th.

I feel like I played a different game than you. I didn't backtrack much if at all in the 6th Palace. Just 1 time but they give you the option to warp straight to where you needed to be most of the time.

Yes the 6th palace frustrated me. I'm admittedly not entirely blameless I guess (I suck with directions), but it really took the wind out out my sails trying to figure out where shit was due to the backtracking I've had to do so far. As much as I got the complaints about the 5th palace, this was undoubtedly the most frustrating for me so far. Theme music is the best one yet though.

Gotta finish it today, day 1 of exploring took a lot longer than I thought it would due to getting lost
trying to find the panels

I got the "hear 250 Navigator voice lines" trophy during the final boss battle and was so relieved. I still haven't gotten that trophy in person 4. I guess the Navigator has more voice lines than she did in persona 4 because that trophy is a shit show to get in golden.


Speaking of persona 4 golden, I just noticed that after beating the game once you can manually change all the things about difficulty instead of just selecting presets. Like, you can play with hard enemy stats but easy exp gain and stuff like that. Can you do that in NG+ persona 5?

Nothing here. You even need to redo all the tutorial shit. Even the most basic tips messages still pop up.

I think I'm done. Sixth palace is just killing all my enjoyment. The music is fucking horrible with an out of tune vocal that goes on and on, and the entire gameplay mechanic has just gotten stale. And then there are fucking enemies who pretty much one shot my hero. Fuck. This. Game.

It started out so damn good, and then around 60 ish hours, nose dive. It should be cut in half. The game is just way too long. Nothing is fun anymore, there is no momentum, and everything just feels like work. 80+ hours in and just thinking about another minute is painful. Sucks. I really dislike quitting a game I've spent so much time on. But my patience has been worn out.

Ive only spent about 66k on a fusion after getting strength rank 10, but I've seen plenty that would cost me 100k+
In general you spend about 11,000 per level to fuse, which is a lot of money. Especially if you want to make high end personas that require fusing other high end personas.

Switch it to Easy. It's one of the weakest dungeons, imo.

That's the 7th palace and I fully agree. I did that juggernaut of a palace yesterday and today on a single ingame day. Took me ~7-8 hours until I secured a route to the treasure and jesus I totally started to hate this place after seeing the mice section for a third time.

It's like they ran out of budget with all these corridors and copy pasted rat ailment from battles.

Out of tune vocals ? Wut? Yes she has an accent but the music is fire. Palace 6 is my favourite because it has an amazing feeling, quite funny and that upbeat nature. It is everything Palace 5 (the worst one for me) was not, which is why I liked it even more.

One shot by what enemy? I have to send the calling card and I've never been one-shotted. The only nuisance was getting hit by confusion.

Haru's all-out attack victory screen has to be my favorite; it's so elegant. I quite like her phantom thief outfit, too.

What backtracking ? It takes like less than 1 min to go to the places it asks you to go back because they are literally in the adjacent rooms. And it does it like 1-2 times at most.
 
Wtf Palace 6 was my favorite overall, even though I think dungeon wise Palace 4 was better. Palace 6 was a breath of fresh air after the downpoint of the game which is Palace 5.

I feel so much better about how he's been acting after that scene. I don't begrudge anyone for disliking him, but it always felt like they were being intentional with his growing obnoxiousness, and I am so, so glad the game vindicated me on that. I thought we were getting another Yosuke situation where it was clear the devs didn't see anything wrong with how he was acting, but they deliberated put Ryuji on a power trip. Not that it makes him immune to criticism as a character, but i'm glad to see his character is still dynamic even after the Kamoshida arc.

I'll definitely talk about what happened in general (because there's so much to talk about jesus christ), but yeah that moment was great.

If you are getting one shot by any normal palace enemy in the game then you are massively underleveled, I don't really know how that's possible because even if you just play palaces as normal you'll be high enough level to not get one shotted.

Oh god playing persona 4 golden I am constantly turning on rush mode whenever I want to use a persona. Way too used to persona 5's different button for different actions thing, instead of navigating a menu.

Eh, if you get ambushed in palace 6 the rangdas can kill you by spamming whatever their multi-hit physical attack is. And god forbid they get a critical, then you are really dead.
 
Didn't they change writers between DeSu 1 and 2? I really liked the scenario for 1, but 2 went overboard with the anime cliches and it lost a lot of what made the first so impactful. Although I will admit I liked some of the characters far more than a decent chunk of the cast in 1.

I agree.
I don't mind backtracking like that, I don't have to see new shit all the time. It's not really backtracking, it's more like what Resident Evil does where you go to one place and have to go to a few other places connected to that one place in order to progress forward.

The kind of backtracking I do mind is when I spend half an hour trying to get back to somewhere I came from or when entire levels are built around backtracking...like DMC4.

Palace 6 is amazing conceptually for the reasons why it is what it is. The bad things were the actual dungeon design and puzzles.

Dude not to sound rude, but if enemies are one shotting you constantly anywhere in the game then you're either severely underleveled (I have 40 more hours of playtime so I'm guessing this is it) or aren't very good at it.

I'm in the same palace, level 45 on hard, haven't grinded for levels at all and I'm actually finding the mobs too easy lol.

Also opinions and all but 6th palace is incredible so far. The visuals, music and general atmosphere are great (I'm not very far into it yet tho so who knows).

Bless you for capturing this. I saw this scene last night and I was so glad. I thought the writers were obliviously making a character shitty like with Yosuke but this showed that they knew what they were doing and actually bothered to give him proper development. It also makes a whole lot of sense given his background.

Granted, his pervy shit stands, but he's definitely way better than people give him credit for.

He has another memorable scene later on.
 
30 hours in, I forget the exact date but I believe I'm mid-June. I'm frustrated it's taken this long, but I'm finally starting to care about the characters a bit. Up until now the story hadn't drawn me in very much. Really hoping that it continues down this path.
