Persona Community Thread |OT6| Where 6 Comes Before 5 (No PQ or P4U spoilers!)

To change the subject, would people like an expansion on the number of elements are just keep it to the core 8? (Phys/Fire/Ice/Elec/Force/Light/Dark/Almighty)

I think it would be nice to have more elements, if only to make sure all the characters actually get their own specialty element.

It bugged me to no end in P3 that the later party members had redundant type coverage that made it hard to justify using them over their predecessors, barring Aigis who had the benefit of Orgia mode and being an excellent multi-physical specialist.

I recall P2 having an earth elemental magic, cant recall the name of it without looking it up though.

Wouldnt mind Water if they could keep it unique from Ice like FF tries to do.

I mean nothing you say will convince others so why is it worth talking about? Its a waifu...

I'd like to bring back Water and Earth from P1&2, but don't know how likely that is. The phys split from P3 definitely needs to come back though.

Persona 2 has Earth (Magma) and Water (Aqua) spells. It also technically has Nuclear spells, but that would be totally redundant as those are basically Almighty spells today.

Definitely. the removal of separate Physical skills really hurt Persona 4 and I'm glad to see they're back in Persona Q.

... or eggplant.

I'm not exactly enamoured with it either, but some interesting discussion can actually arise from it. To try to actively 'push' it out of the thread, as it were, is kind of offensive.

I mean, it's something that this community dedicated an entire podcast towards - trying (and failing) to define it!

Magma and Aqua, THANK YOU.

Was driving me nuts not remembering those!

Also, I was never a fan of the physical split. Made party members completely redundant against some bosses and if you have the wrong weapon equipped, congrats, now you're screwed too!

I do like the SMT IV method of it though. One physical attack for swords/demons/chainsaws or whatever, and a separate gun attack for which you need bullets. I like that system a hell of a lot more than the P3 version.

Never seen this be the case. I'm also one who's repulsed by the subject, and it's clear other users who avoid positing in Persona community threads are as well.

And I'm glad I held off on listening to the music before playing PQ. There's some great tracks already, having just started the game.

And how many times do we say that it is not PersonaGAF that does this?

People don't post here because they just don't want to.

It's not just about people seriously engaging in "waifu wars", it's also about the frequency by which they're referred to and "joked" about, as well. We already have Sophia and cj_iwakura mention how they avoided posting because of it in this very thread. Debates or not, it's just a subject that tends to be discussed frequently in Persona threads.

Early PQ impressions

The writing in this game is definitely a lot more subdued than the Arena games. Characterization honestly feels much more inline with Persona 3/4 (so far, anyway). Chie in particular benefits from better voice acting; Erin has a much more low-key, relaxed pitched when voicing Chie now. To be clear, she hasn't been prattling on about MEAT which is just radical. I haven't touched based with the P3 crew yet, but the prologue has been very reminiscent of Persona 4. I actually like how the protagonist you're playing as is silent. I was indifferent to the idea at first, but it definitely makes the game more "enjoyable" and Persona-esque. As an aside, Margaret is amazing in this game.

She usually employs a hands-off approach when it comes to the group affairs, but she's much more involved now. She still retains her professionalism, but her interactions with the group are interesting and funny. To be honest i'm kind of dreading Elizabeth appearance because I really like how Margaret is handling things, haha.

Oh this game

All in all, I'm feeling pretty optimistic about Persona Q!

The Persona Q topic was already ruined due to waifu wars on the fourth page or something. It doesn't entice anyone to talk about the game with that shit being present so soon.

...and I made the decision to not touch my copy of Q until my exams finish, so unless I break down I'll be playing it December 19th. Again, have fun everyone~

I don't see the problem with joking around.

Being 100% super serial on the internets is no fun.

Hah, really? How long was it until they blamed it on us?

There's no problem with joking around. What I'm saying is that waifu discussion and jokes are as much of a thing in our community thread compared to any other Persona thread. We're not some misunderstood group of which that doesn't apply to and is falsely blamed for it.

May I propose we all drop the waifu talk entirely? I've been watching the posts on it for awhile, and they're getting increasingly inane, silly, and rather off-topic. Doesn't lend itself to good discussion either, as we've seen these last few pages.

I don't post here a whole lot, but I support this 100%.

Fantastic.

For the elements discussion, I'm totally neutral on Magna and Aqua, but I do like the return of different types of physical attacks. Whether it's done in the style of P3 or SMTIV depends on how well they do it, but some variety is nice. It's one aspect of the PQ battle system I'm really looking forward to.
Now if only Amazon would ship my copy already...

I'm rarely here anymore, mostly because of work. But I hardly see it here, aside from that little bit last night.

Having never played an Etrian Odyssey before, I hope I'm not alone in getting my ass kicked on normal :p
It feels nice to go back to RPG Persona tho, and I'm really loving the game so far. I'm only about two hours into the P4 route, but dialogue is great, and it feels like a return to norm for the characters.
Bias aside, Q could be my game of year, I hope everyone is having as much fun as I am!

Trish?

Is that you?

Elizabeth even serves as the game's nurse.

Heh, I'm actually right at that moment as well and that's the thought that came to mind. Are you doing the P3 side or the P4 side? I'm doing P3; wondering if it's dialogue unique to that group.

P3 side, hard mode

Cool. P3 side, normal mode here. I was debating between normal and hard; if it gets too easy, I'll just switch.

Also, odd thing to point out, but I really liked the way they delineate the choice between P3 and P4 at the start. Really liked this screen, in particular:

Edit: Oh, and yes, the title screen music is fantastic.

I think you're being to hard on that thread. Waifu talk has been very minimal (nearly nonexistent)

Seda and Aeana are both present in that thread. I'm 99% sure they'll put a stop to it.

Totally agree. Man this music FEELS and sounds like Persona, yet it's different. I'm really enjoying it. Also seeing the P3 high school gang again, and Makoto... The feels man.

Happy PQ release day!

Went with P3MC side, as while I enjoy the P4 cast, P3FES is still the first ever Persona game that I have ever played, so the characters were a bit more memorable to me.

Best $9.99 ever spent.

Currently rolling with a team consisting of front: P3MC/Chie back: Yukari/Rei and Zen (these guys are really good as party members in my playthrough so far) and Naoto as backup Hama/Mudo sweeper.

This. P3 side was the obvious choice for me from the beginning.

Loving every second of Persona Q right now. I love Fuuka's new voice.

Seeing the entrance of Tartarus at the beginning brought me back to the days when P3 first came out. Never did I expect to see it again in a brand new game. Getting new content with the P3 cast is just amazing.

Also sick burns on Theo never get old.

hrk!
I'll get you out one day, man! Even if it's in my dreams!

The character interactions are great, and the voices are amazing too. I'm so glad, this game is definitely Persona. Sure there might not be social links but what they did to replace those is really cool. I'm loving the game aha!

Envious on you all playing. I may have to wait until December 1st to get my copy.

When I do: RISKY MODE, MAKOTO YUKI, NO ITEMS, FINAL DESTINATION. >.>

I won't be able to play PQ until December 26th at the absolute earliest (thank you, Boxing Day sales), but that's okay because I have Alpha Sapphire to satiate my classic RPG hunger.

Y'all had better enjoy it on my behalf, especially if you're smart and using Junpei.

It's still annoying that the discussion hit rock bottom on launch day. Though looking at it again it seems to be fine now.

Heh, 2-3 hours into the P3 side, I find myself thinking: "I wouldn't actually mind if this game was only about P3."

I'd probably skip the game if that was the case, the P3 cast bores me so.

What, even Miiverse?

Yeah, I mean via Miiverse. I didn't try taking any shots before the game actually starts, but it didn't allow any screenshots when you're selecting everything for a New Game.

That kinda sucks for you, considering what PQ is. I enjoy both casts a lot, so seeing the SEES P3 cast again is awesome.

Not really, I can still enjoy the P3 cast and find them uninteresting.
I would really like another game that focused solely on the P3 cast and was tailored to them, but from your post I strictly imagined "Persona Q sans Investigation Team".
