Of course it is. So this is the champion of the "let's talk with racists and find some middleground, because racism is DEFINITELY something where there's an in between". Fuck him.

Sometimes i really feel ashamed of identifying as a gamer or even enjoying this medium. How could something so interesting and fun be tainted by a big part of the community so fucking toxic, moronic and immature?

And don't forget, a large portion of the public faces who are guilty of tainting it make fuckloads of money doing so! Racism and misogyny CAN be rewarded, folks!!

Fuck everything.

In a way it does seem like a scary situation with no easy solution. Right now it either seems like you're against racism or for it, and there's no in-between.
I guess there's good and bad racism like everything in life...
Are you one of those people that were once hurt by people of different race/religion/country and therefore thinks that it is justified to hate all of the members group?

Fucking christ

Fucking literally "in the middle". It's like he's perpetuating his own stereotype.

What a toxic opinion, why are this people "famous"? Are children that fucking stupid? or is this the rise of the alt right and the politically incorrect edgelords?

I'd say they are famous because the kids who watch don't give a second thought to politics and don't care or think about it, all they care about is watching that 10 minute video of their favourite person doing what they do.

Yeah, it's a pretty black or white issue. Very little grey about it.

the people in the middle are also racists tho
Yeah, those in the middle like to pretend there's grey. But they're either racist themselves, in denial about being racist or they're complicit in racism. And all of these stances are equally bad.
And those who are actively outspoken about their "middle" stance have an agenda... and that agenda sure as fuck isn't "racism is bad".

who the fuck is boogie and has pewdiepie addressed this yet? better be actual consequences for this shit

Who is he even talking about? Like, who in his 'middle' is being hurt by this? What in God's name is Boogie even on about anymore?

Shit is parody levels at this point.

Perhaps all along the middle ground between racist and not racist was "says racial and homophobic slurs during heated gaming moments but doesnt mean it like that"
But that's the smoking gun in this, surely? The people like Boogie who defend the 'middle' are usually defending it against people upset because someone is racist and homophobic and usually don't spend that effort defending against people actually being racist and homophobic.

The 'middle' bullshit is a ploy, they use 'the middle' when those bloody liberals start getting upset about racism, misogyny and homophobia but they don't do the same when people are actually being racist, misogynistic and homophobic. That's precisely what Boogie is doing now.

I just read his argument, and although I understand where he's going, I don't agree.

If I write a song and I see someone I don't agree with use it for their personal gain, I'll be asking them to stop using it/ file a claim against its use.

If I made a game and someone is using n-bombs or other racist/sexist/demeaning language, I'd want them banned or booted off the game. Same would apply to streamers.

We just saw this music example in south america when the "despacito" guys were quick to voice their disagreement with Maduro using their song.

Who is he even talking about? Like, who in his 'middle' is being hurt by this? What in God's name is Boogie even on about anymore?

I think he's talking about other youtubers who he thinks could be hurt down the road if the firewatch dmca takedown sets the wrong (in his eyes) precedent.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong because I don't understand the full boogie history on this stuff

Watching all these posters come out of the woodwork to get banned for defending racism, I feel like Willy Wonka pretending/not pretending to give a shit about stupid kids getting fucked up doing stupid shit: no...wait...don't do that...come back...

Someone please post the appropriate gif.

People should take into account the social context as much he should take into account his audience...

Case and point - Estonia. Closed community, next to no racial mixing, no religion (95% atheist). Only foreigners are Russians that were bought here during Soviet invasion - 30% of population but they are visually indistinguishable and by now they are more or less our people, since most of them by now support Estonia and not "the motherland".

So about 15 years ago or so we had the first nonwhite people come to live here and we were like little kids at gala dinner. People could not help but to stare, some where afraid, didn't what to say. Some thought its a tan etc. Then ofc we had like 5 nazis pop up (we are a small country, so 5 probably about the right size of the group in this case) who ofc needed to bully the poor black student who came study here, it was all over the news and it was awkward and no one quite new how to behave. So the topic was kind of ignored then, but now, over the years , i'd say we have become a bit more attractive and we have an increase of different cultured/colored people and our limited experience in the past is showing. Just a few years ago one of our top politics used the N-word publicly and if my memory serves me correctly, the lingual committee supported him in the post mortem. Why?

Because "Neeger" (n-word in estonian) is a nicer word by meaning than "must" (black), because "must" means dirty as well in Estonian and calling people dirty is worse in this case.

Also, because socially the n-word does not carry the same meaning here - its was never used in the context of slavery. Only as word to describe color - an adoption of the latin term Niger (https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/niger#Latin - i thought it was Negros tbh ) or sth. The bad connotation became known to us only with American culture much later.

Now I am not saying that PDP should not know his audience and should not take into account the meaning of what he says to other people. But to those other I would say, that words can have different meanings in different cultures and just because someone says what you think they said, it is possible that he/or she did not mean it in the same way as you understand it.

Language and culture is not black n white mkey :)

expect that's not the case here at all

he knows the full context of the word and used it in a specific, hateful way

He subbed the word with asshole moments after realising dropping the n word was a bad idea. That was his thought process.

You typed a lot of words defending a racist.

It's literally a parody. Boogie sees himself as some great shield but in reality he's a dumbass who doesn't realize the middle can harbor some of the worst people.

Sometimes i really feel ashamed of identifying as a gamer or even enjoying this medium. How could something so interesting and fun be tainted by a big part of the community so fucking toxic, moronic and immature?

Same. I don't think we're afforded the luxury of that platonic gaming ideal where we're all having fun and whatever. Whenever you feel like slacking on pushing back against bullshit like this, just realize that you've got work to do that's so much more important than being able to sit back and have fun with games. It's hard for me to even jump into anything anymore because I feel so much the need to just, at the very least, add my voice to the side that isn't a complete human garbage sewer. This PDP stuff is just one more giant turd.

What he said there makes sense and it's why Boogie is on of the very few personalities I even watch anymore.

He isn't defending Pewdiepie or what he said. He is defending the right to free speech on media platforms for those that AREN'T blatantly racist. That is who he means when he says "those caught in the middle". Meaning those that could be punished because of the act of one personality.

Who is he even talking about? Like, who in his 'middle' is being hurt by this? What in God's name is Boogie even on about anymore?
Im pretty sure he's referring to the DMCA being issued by the Firewatch devs over PDPs video walk through he did years ago. (Due to the shitty comments he made )In fairness ALOT of you tubers are going apeshit over this issue right now.

I know you're banned, but stop spreading lies about Sweden. If you're a prominent figure and use the equivalent word we have in that kind of context then you're in big trouble.

Not that it matters where he's from anyway, he's as much of a scum regardless.

Exactly, you would (thankfully) never get away scot-free with saying that shit in Sweden if you are famous in any way.

He's a Swedish person who lives in England and makes money off English-based pop culture. He knows what the word means.

Sure, in your one example it makes some sense, I'm not Estonian so wont delve too deep into this but he's not in Estonia, he wasn't speaking to Estonians. Its a crap excuse mate, sorry.

Im pretty sure he's referring to the DMCA being issued by the Firewatch devs over his video walk through he did years ago. In fairness ALOT of you tubers are going apeshit over this issue right now.

Good.

You can't get away with shit like this in any other field or job (except maybe an American police officer, new-age Nazi or a student being forced to read To Kill a Mockingbird out loud) so neither should someone with a public presence.

Nope, he's talking about Felix and defending him.

Boogie please just stop. You're one of the youtubers I actually enjoy watching.

PDP has always been trash, still blows my mind how he has a following.
