There's no reason I can see for other people on YouTube to be defending PDP. His continued racist behaviour on the platform will keep sending advertisers away, already some will never ever come back.

PDP continues to show overt racist and harmful behaviour to others, most frighteningly we know much of is audience is children. YouTube themselves continue to fail other people using their platform for continuing to support this behaviour.

Eventually there won't be any advertisers left, that's what people (and YouTube)'s continued support for this toxic behaviour will bring.

No one should be frightened to condem this behaviour. This kind of racist language will continue it's destructive path through the community until people are willing to stand up to it.

YouTube and their other users need to stand up fast against it or they'll lose what little they have left.

The rest of us need to stand up if there's ever any hope of having a community to keep together

People aren't at risk of collateral damage from censorship if those people are capable of policing themselves. I'm not sure how defending racism advances his states goals.

Using a slur which has been used to abuse vulnerable minorities is not at all equivalent to using a regular slur which is used to abuse pretty much everyone. Fucker/dick/cunt? Straight white people have never really been abused on a massive scale so there's not really an equivalent word for them. If PewDiePie had said: "you fat piece of shit!" He isn't defending Pewdiepie or what he said. He is defending the right to free speech on media platforms for those that AREN'T blatantly racist. That is who he means when he says "those caught in the middle". Meaning those that could be punished because of the act of one personality.

Also, on Velurian's reasoning... it doesnt hold up considering PewDiePie has a global following and I doubt he doesnt know the connotations behind the N-word.

In some parts of Asia, in my country Malaysia for example, that word is used to refer to black people by some simply due to them hearing it black rappers refer it to themselves in songs. My wife was one, until I explained to her and she has since not used it.

There are a lot who arent familar with the word being a derogatory reference to african americans, which is sad, but I'm living in a part of the world where Hitler is considered just a historical figure, which lead to a restaurant in Thailand calling itself Hitler Fried Chicken :/

So far I've seen people say it's ok to use the word as black people call each other it all the time.

As a person of colour I personally don't use the word but I also understand the cultural context of other black people using it as a greeting and term of endearment.

The Last time Felix was a bigot youtube and advertisers gimped payouts to content that wasn't even in anyway vulgar. Things like WWE content and reviewers. Boogies tweets are talking about freedoms of those NOT racist or making hateful content that could be affected by Felix's actions once again. Those content creators are the "middle" that he is referring to. He is NOT defending Felix, but is scared of what the fallout could be this time if last time was any indication.

I'm guessing the source of BoogieSomeNumbers' confusion is freedom of speech. It's always touted as to why we're allowed to say such things and, no matter what they are, the man can't put us down for it.

Thing is, PDP is in the UK.

Offensive and demeaning language isn't protected under our stricter rules regarding freedom of speech.

Being trans, however (which feels like an example plucked from a list of go to labels you should namedrop to be seen as compassionate) is perfectly acceptable and would be protected. In fact, trying to stamp someone out because they are trans would fall under offensive and demeaning language and thus would be illegal.
