PewDiePie calls someone a "fucking n****r" during PUBG livestream

I think if it was that time they would have done it already.

giphy-5.gif

I doubt the'd ever do it. Money is more important to them than doing the right thing.

Has PewDiePie come out with an apology or anything like that yet?

Couldnt see a video on his channel.

Do you think he will even address it?

Apologies if this has been covered already.

Well, I guess the takeaway here is that human beings stink more than you're usually led do believe. Good cleanup by the mods, a shame there's probably hundreds more reading, on PDP's side but not posting to keep their accounts.

If you're reading this and is part of this "group" - congrats, you're a shitty person in so many levels.

He's got people for that. Just gotta wait to see what they say.

I recognize some of these names as very annoying people that spew garbage opinions all over the place

They will not be missed

He said he was sorry but then called the guy an asshole.

Bssically verifying that he used the n word in a harmful manner.

People defending this shit need to realise after his fuck up he replaced the n word with assholes thus confirming the intent

Come at me defenders cos theres fuck all to defend u racist bastards

That's it. That's the real beef. It's HOW he used the word. (Edit: of course the word itself is heinous, not saying that's OK.) He's pissed off at the guy and thinks he's an asshole, thinks he's a shitty unfair player, so calls him a "n***er". It's clear equivalence.

I hope someone is still counting for the accurate number. I think it's more than the number of states in USA now.

We're now at 52 for those keeping score.

But the question is, beelulzbub, will we make it to 70 before the sun sets today? Only time....will tell.

PDP literally said on stream "no one cares about what he said." So yeah, no apology won't be coming from him anytime soon. Well, not unless he starts getting the squeeze from Twitch, other game developers...etc.

He'll come out with a video in 2 weeks saying that racism isn't cool™ anymore and it's our faults for being offended.

His army of bots and supporters are going through the internet first to downplay this shit. Then after a week or so he will reappear, make a video that takes 10 minutes to get to the point, then blame the media for blowing the issue up, say he is sorry people got offended (but not really for saying racial slurs) and then end with a middle finger to the BBC or The Guardian for putting his ad dollars at risk.

Or... he might be smart and actually hire a PR team this time and start running shit by a someone before publishing, but I doubt it.

I lost my Uni account and didn't have a dedicated ISP for a couple of years, so I was stuck lurking for years. And even when I did get ISP e-mail, the vetting was months before I could start posting. How much ground-work are people putting into making these burners? And for what?
Apply and forget I guess, the actual application doesn't take more than a few minutes after all. Three months of vetting is nothing if you prepare the account(s) years in advance.

as a Portuguese person myself, this post is embarassing on about 5 different levels.

Not shocking mind you, since my country is racist as shit. And homophobic, dont even get me started on that.

One of the more saddening aspects of this is people from outside the US pretending like yelling the n-word would just be considered a jolly jape elsewhere. I mean, shit, maybe, but that would just be indicative of an even bigger problem.

Given he said that he thought nazis didn't exist anymore or something like that to justify his anti-semitic behaviour I wouldn't be shocked if he says he thought racism was dead or some shit.

If he does try to excuse it it will be a bunch of bullshit.

legit surprised Javier23 didn't make the list for this gem, nevermind this classic joint

and having been around for dragona & bish, i'm gonna say it's likely not a record

Nah, no PR team. He'll get help from his buddies like Sargon and other racists and say that we're somehow all the real racists for giving the word meaning by condemning the word.

Yeah, that's what I mean, the end result for a lot of these alt-accounts was to dog-whistle a bit before being banned. Even the few minutes of application seems like more of a waste of time if that's all it was used for.

Edit:

Yeah, let's chill with the ban lists and burner accounts speculations, okay?
Let us do our jobs, we got this.

Soz.

The discussion over the over-usage of the n-word in media is wholly independent from a streamer using it in a very hostile manner, especially given how he reacted; By readjusting his insult he showed what he acknowledges and values.

also, lol at PDP's descent

what the dude said is true by the way. Its completely normal here to make fun of black people. Or gays. Or women.

We are stuck in the 50s is what im saying.

was only a matter of time before he said it on a live stream. I bet he's said it multiple times in his recorded videos as well but had the foresight to edit it out before uploading of course.

fuck him and the whole gaming personality culture in general tbh. before there was a word and political movement behind this sort of stuff (dat alt-right 2017) this sense of humor where people would drop "faggot, jew, nigger" etc. ad nauseum was all over the place. now Trump and fascist movements across the world have only emboldened them. its like a perfect storm of bigotry, sexism and putting their heads in the sand whenever presented with facts or common sense.

none of this is surprising really, but it sucks that they won the hearts and minds of so many kids before this all blew up.

I'm not racist but I feel this is getting a little out of hand.

I will not defend felix, he should know better, he already had his share of problems from racist slurs. He should be learning that his words have a high impact.

But I guess this is going nowhere, even the president of USA have said racist things and looks like nobody did care.

I guess that we need to take it as a joke. In portugal I have people of color as friends and I kiddingly joke with them in the same way and they don't feel affected, ofc they do the same with me, don't know if it's a regional thingy.

Well, context matters. Jokes between friends differ completely from public statements made by individuals who have millions of followers and inadvertently influence certain masses.

All of us have personal prejudices which derive from our cultural background, but that does not justify any act of hatred. Personally speaking, I come from Greece, a country that is relatively small and close-minded due to the fact that our exposure to day-to-day interactions with people from abroad is limited. Only upon migrating to the UK I realised that jokes that bear racist, homophobic, xenophobic or sexual connotations become problematic due to the political significance they bear. And you know what? I made a lot of mistakes in my first years abroad only because I was acting based on my prejudices. Cultural background though does not justify complacency.

For instance, I was watching PDP's 2016 setup video the other day and I specifically remember him making a joke about a Romanian friend (or whatever) of his who was polishing a particular decorative piece in his office. Publicly illustrating Romanians as cheap workers "polishing diamond buttons" only propagates stereotypes, which can lead to hatred and misrepresentation. Unfortunately, we are going through some pretty dark times and this type of speech should only be condemned.

Nah, nothing that I can find. His twitter page seems to be full of fans asking for him to address it, while other fans are defending him saying he said "sorry" in the stream after he said the word.

I used to be a fan of his, honestly, but watching the video of him saying it so effortlessly and without hesitation really shocked me, even after all the Nazi stuff that happened. And I say this as a person of color in South Africa where this word is generally never used (other insulting words are used instead)

i remember asking my nephew if he heard about PDP once (he watches a good bit of Youtube), and him saying "who?" and I was super relieved

It says a lot about a person when you see what words they can use casually.

I don't understand the argument of and someone tweeted this response to me "If the majority officially acknowledged that the word(s) had no power to them then being racist with words would be that much harder." Words don't have power? This sounds like a failing philosophy student trying to do a edgy presentation for their Major.

Not that hard to understand. White men are most likely to have these kind of views and they are also the most likely people to participate in video game communities.

People quickly learn what is and what isn't accepted in the communities they participate in. Doesn't mean they actually change. They just learn to shut up and hide their racist shit until they feel its OK to say how they feel. You see this all the time in real life where you might say something that that makes them think you are "one of them" and all the racist shit comes pouring out.

I agree with this.
There are white ppl who are racists and there are white ppl who don't admit it. Deep down we all know it
