How do parents control that content? Just curious as my kid is only two and it's a conversation we've had between my wife and I in terms of how to regulate crap like that.

There is an app called Youtube Kids, I've personally never used it but it focuses on family-friendly videos.

Looking at his channel I'm surprised by his view count, for all the hype of him being the king of youtube with 56 MILLION subscribers...I expected those numbers to be much higher.

He only seems to average 4-6 million views? Thats certainly still a good sized audience but 90% of his subs arent tuning in with any sort of regularity. All of his super popular stuff is from 3-4 years ago. Reminds me of those online games that boast about having millions of registered users but their active players is in the thousands.

I filter out channels ahead of time, basically, since youtubes filters suck ass, I set up an account ahead of time with recs and everything built around videos and content creators that I know are child friendly and not racist. I also try and make sure I'm always keeping at least an ear out for what he's watching at any given moment.

A lot of science and "how things work" videos on top of easy things like minecraft players and lets players who don't swear or cuss with simple, easy edited videos.

To a certain extent this is truish in that women are more often the primary caregiver so they more often deemphasize their career to take care of their children. However, this presumes that no one has taken high school statistics except for PewDiePie. Even when this taken into account, women are still paid less.

Almost all studies take hours worked into account. Also, if women ARE all choosing low-paying jobs, doesn't that signify a problem on its own? Many low paying jobs are far more stressful and demanding than middle or upper-income jobs, so why would anyone choose this sort of work

It's not so much about political correctness. He's a YouTuber with huge exposure to some of the most malleable and formative minds out there, he should know that wasn't the platform to make that kind of controversial jokes. With Family Guy and South Park, they know what they are and hold no punches, whereas with PewDiePie there's (IMO, I think people will disagree with me on this) a weird tonal shift between his "LOL JK/LOL SO FANNY XD" humour that appeals to kids and teenagers and edgy humour that just looks and sounds off in relation to some of the things he's well known for.

I thought that the Nazi joke was the beginning of PewDiePie exposing his real views, so I'm not surprised that he's said something like this.

I wasn't saying they were one in the same, but it is a symptom of growing up with media that normalizes anti-semitic language as "JUST JOKES." Yeah a smarter person could probably parse out some nuance in the shock humor of South Park and Family Guy and straddle that line between offensive and funny. But most people are just gonna take away one thing: "If I say offensive and shocking stuff, I'm gonna be funny."
