Phantom Blade Zero Gameplay Demo

This will probably be the biggest game release next year, outside of GTA 6. It surely seems like the next Black Myth Wukong. Some of the best animations I have ever seen. Chinese studios are cooking

The biggest problem China might face is a lack of identity. Phantom Blade, Wukong, Wuchang etc all look very similar in approach, assets and overall design. Its okay for now, but how many of these action games are going to be consumed in the long run?

So far I've yet to see a game that brings something different to the table. Phantom Blade and Lost Soul Aside aren't going to do it.

Biggest release next year? Come on now, it looks pretty decent but its a Souls like/Nioh/Gaiden clone.

We've played this game already a 1000 times.
Jesus Christ. By that perspective, every action game is the same. Dumb af. This looks much better and unique than Black Myth Wukong, and that game sold 20mil. Unless you don't count Chinese gamers, this game is going to sell crazy well

20m copies were just in the first month. By early 2025, it had already reached 25 million, and by now , especially after a 20% sale, I'd guess Wukong has sold around 30- 35 m copies.

// It's honestly laughable when some people say PBZ lacks creativity and looks like thousands of other games. Can you name me one game that has this kind of combat and setting?

the names do NOT help either
wu kong
wu chang
mu dang

Thanks, changed OP vid

100% agree. This looks completely original. Some people just really hate the action genre, which is weird. The variety is starting to get very good. It's like saying all turn based games play the same. People just dont seem to know what they are talking about

I played a 2D mobile beat 'em up made by these devs, I think. The combat was really good, but my god the UI/UX and various subsystems were shit. Hopefully with a bigger budge and a bigger team, this game won't suffer the same pitfalls.

The combat in the video looks really good., love the contextual animations scattered in.

yup , unless the story is really good i dont see it as one of the biggest games of 2026 , i think onimusha and nioh 3 will be much better action games

I think part of it is just that most westerners (myself included) know very little about Chinese history. You make a game based on King Arthur legend and another set in the Roman Empire those are completely different settings to me. You do the same with Chinese history/mythology and its just 'ancient China'.

As if Onimusha or Nioh had any story to write home about I dont get the reasoning here. The combat is miles better than in those two games and now story is important??

I got the feeling that if this game were made by, say Platinum or Sega, some opinions would be slightly different.

That spear counter where you impale the enemy with it's own spear is awesome... And the enemy tooking out the spear and going back to the fight with it is awesome².

Nioh

To clarify I do think the game looks good. But if you told me this was Nioh 3 or a Ninja Gaiden game I would believe you.

maybe you are right , maybe not , only time will tell

Of course I do. This looks like Nioh with a bit of NG thrown in.
You keep lumping it with Nioh and Souls games, but it isn't even a Soulslike or even an RPG. It's a straight-up action game with almost none of the fluff Soulslike have.

Like NG then?

I only watched the video provided, maybe im off the mark.

Edit: I watch a bit more. I stand by my ill informed opinion.

Nice graphics, combat seems to lack weight though.

I'm saying NG is a straight-up action game that doesn't belong in Soulslike convos.

Phantom Blade seems more in-line with typical Soulslike, but seems to have a more intricate and faster-paced combo system. Some say it isn't a Soulslike, but it sure as hell looks like one.

That's what I meant. Looks like a souls like but with faster combat. So Nioh basically.

When Stuff like this pops up, just reminded me of NG

A main line Ninja Gaiden game hasn't released in over a decade and you are upset a game is taking inspiration from it
Not upset about anything, not sure where you get that idea from.

I said the game looked pretty good, just a bit of originality to go along with he nice graphics wouldn't go a miss.

My biggest beef with that footage is that every grunt takes 800 combos apparently. Looks like they adopted more Action/Team Ninja influenced combat into a straight Souls template and the health pools make the protag feel kind of wimpy. The hit feedback, gore and moveset look great but reminds me of GoW '18 where that feeling is undercut by having to bash a regular grunt in the face 50 times in a row.

I'd be more excited if they dropped the Souls-y elements by deleting stamina bars and lowering enemy health but upping enemy counts. That combat would be fun to mow through glass cannons with.

A Chinese game that isn't selling their title on half naked chicks. Imagine having gameplay good enough to carry your game instead of trying your hardest to please simping coomers. Insane.

On thread, looks great.

Looks great.
The combat looks fun with great animations, cool enemy design and it seems like the really nail that sense of impact.

But I agree with others in that I wish these Chinese games had a bit more variety in their settings and art direction, a lot of them look and sound very samey.
That's one of the reasons why Tides of Annihilation stands out IMO. It's not like it has the most creative setting either, but it's unique enough to stand out from the rest.

Oh wow another Chinese souls-like. But this time, it also takes inspiration from Sekiro? Wow. These Chinese devs just copy paste this trash right down to the UI. Thanks Miyazaki for having an original idea, seems like no one else is capable of it. Would be nice to see an action game try something new but apparently you all don't need it. Why would anyone outside of China buy this garbage?

The amount of salt...

IMO... be careful of what you wish for (or not if you just appreciate game variety). If they make a LoU "clone" they would probably blow ND out of the water. They have the passion, the focus, and the ability. If all they "need to do" is wrap that around a semi original story and tug at some emotions they (China devs general) are miles ahead of what is left of our teams.

Does anybody else find it weird that there were no ranged weapons on display? Seems like the gameplay loop is to crouch walk into a stealth execution and then swing and parry against cannon fodder until a boss appears. Wonder what kind of weapon skills they have outside of the fire breathing dragon skill on the shield?

P.S. I hope the enemies get faces or masks or something resembling an identity.
